Grand Marshals? Really? How does that work? I have seen people who have done this, but what do you do to get it? And what happens if you are picked?

I feel so weird asking for things to be "given" to us. But I know I should because the selection process is probably pretty random! Who is in charge of selection? Do you know?

I guess, I could say "Hi, (always a good way to start lol) I understand that each day Disney gives a select family the opportunity to be in the parade and to help with the flag ceremony. My husband is deployed right now and it would mean a lot to my son and I if we could have this opportunity." Or is that too formal? HELP!

Well...I actually have some experience in this area. DH and I were chosen to be Grand Marshals in the Share a Dream Come True parade on our honeymoon. What did we do to get it...uhh...we were really lucky! We were talking to a CM in a suit who was handing out guide maps first thing after the park opened...I was trading a pin with him, and DH got chatty with him. I wanted to hurry up, because all these people were streaming past and I wanted to get to Space Mountain (DH had never been to MK before). Fortunately for me, I didn't rush them, because in a few minutes the suit asked us if we were going to be staying in the park for the parade...I knew something was up, so I said yes, and he asked if we wanted to be in it. To say I was excited would be an understatement....I started shaking! He had to ask me if I was okay - LOL!

So, we got to ride in a car that Walt himself used to drive at Disneyland, and they gave us a certificate to prove we really were grand marshals. Oh, and we got personalized mouse ears to wear in the parade. Other than that, we don't actually get anything, other than the experience of a lifetime.

I'm sworn to secrecy with the CM's name who chose us, but I can tell you that it's pretty much random. Be nice to those you interact with, look like you're having fun, and everything else is luck. For us, I think it was because we were on our honeymoon.

It won't hurt to ask, but I've also been told that usually for being grand marshalls they won't take anyone who actually asks about it, because they want it to be random. (We asked at City Hall last year at MNSSHP, because it was my nephew's first trip and we thought it would be an amazing thing for my niece and nephew...they told us they'd already picked for the night, though.)

I think what you propose saying above, though, is great! Go for it! It absolutely can't hurt anything, and you never know what magic Disney might work!

You let your hair grow for like 3 weeks and then you go in and YOWSA! yes it hurts, but i never have time to shave with my power showers int he AM and i always have an audience anyways, so it's easier for me (my kids NOT my husband are my audience!!) (anyone else not able to shower, use the bathroom anything ALONE anymore!! haha!!) It hurts less by the time they get to the second leg and the bikini is the WORST! soo it's just one day of awful yuckiness!! i just hope i have time to go!!!

Me ! I have to play "Peek A Boo" with Ella and the shower curtain the entire time I shower. Sory ..probably TMI for a lot of people.

I just realized after reading 6 pages of posts here that I am in single digits until our trip!!!!!!!

DH and I are keeping it a secret from DD8 and DS6 (almost 7). It's KILLING me. It was my idea initially to surprise them with the trip, but now that it's next week I am about to burst at the seams!

I didn't expect to be here tonight, either, but I also don't want to miss 200! I think I'll go work on my if-it-rains MNSSHP costume for a bit and then be back.

We decided to go as Figment (me) and Dreamfinder (DH) if it rains. Really easy tee-shirts...bought a top hat for DH, he's done. I just need to do the iron-on letters on a yellow tee and mine is done, too. Oh, wait, and DH has to make me some wings out of stiff felt that I'll attach with velcro. Something fun, cheap, and different than a pirate, our original rain idea, because I think there'll be a lot of pirates this year.

I forgot to mention! I have my Mickey heads almost cut out and ready to go! I'll be taking a handful to the parks with my DIS name on them...they'll be dropped in strollers with lime green, passed out to any lime green mickey head that I see on a person, and slid under decorated doors! Figured it be a way to say Hi! to some of ya'll!

whew!!! I spent my entire dinner break catching up with you folks! chatty chatty chatty bunch are we... I just hope when we cross path anywhere at PoP we'll still be as chatty please feel free to come over if anybody have spotted me ! I always have my antss2001 name on my hat !!! Ok now to share with you my dillema... we are arriving on the 29th as you all know at around 11ish... and also it is the 1st day of the F&W Festival and at the same time we are going to MNSSHP. I would really want to go straight to EPCOT to get those unlimited pins that you can only buy at the center most area tents at EPCOT. Now my question do they have different unlimited pins for F&W as the day progress like the MNSSHP they have unlimited pin release every nite there's a MNSSHP. Now I really wish we had choosen Oct 2 for the party :: I mentioned this in passing to dsis and mom and they both agree that it would be a waste to use separate park tickets for only a couple of hours since we might get done checking in around 12-1PM and at 4:30PM we can go at MK using the MNSSHP.... what do you think ?

Hmmm...well I am not a pin person so I can't help you with the pin question but it does sound like doing both might be pushing it. Will the F&W pins be that in demand ? Is that a stupid question from a non pin trader ?!

Back about 10 pages, someone asked who would be the last one to leave home. We won't be the last to leave home, but we may be among the last to arrive, since we won't be there until sometime in the afternoon on 9/30, and I can't wait!
