POP = Walmart?

Sorry, I do not see Disney ever handing those keys over as guests walk in the door.

Those keys are quite pricey. $35 a day plus a $5 deposit at the present time.

Also ECV guests have very few perks and a lot of disadvanges.

The biggest perk an EVC rider is a place to sit while touring the parks.

I hate using an EVC at WDW. I cannot look around and enjoy the sceanery and the views while driving my WVC.

My view is mostly of other guests backsides.

I have to watch those those giests very cafefully because most of them don't see me (I am usually below their line of vision) and they often walk right in front me so I have I have to concentrate on the guests surrounding me instead of enjoying the park views.

I hate not being able to walk down Main Street holding my DH's or Grandson's hand.

Believe me it is not easy or fun to drive an EVC at WDW.

Why do I drive one ?

Because without the EVC WDW would not be accessible to me.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi Linda,

Try as we might, there will always be some people who are unwilling to listen and learn or who simply lack the compassion, sensitivity, etc., to relate. My mother taught me to feel sorry for them... for how much they miss.

Luckily, they are only a small minority, just as I believe only a small minority abuse the system. Most of the posters in this thread have been kind and supportive, just as most people are in the real world.

FWIW - My son doesn't need/use a wheel chair or EVC. His birth defect/disability is completely hidden, and for his sake, I am glad.

Here's to many more magical trips at the happiest place on earth!

(P.S. My son's birth defect is the reason I'm always posting, on the "Family of 5+" threads, why I would perfer beds to pull-outs. We've spent too many nights on those pull-outs while he's hospitalized, including the first 35 days of his life. It must feel like I'm stalking you on those threads, though!)

Why can't people voice thier OPINION w/out everyone getting up in arms?! An opinion is someone's viewpoint not actual fact! Why can't we just respect other opinions regardless of whether or not we agree w/them?!:confused3

Its not so much an opinion as flat out rudeness that everyone is having a problem with. The OP said just because my Dad is in a wheel-chair he should get to judge whether or not he needs it, and call him lazy if he deems him "not sick looking".

The truth is the OP can not tell. Often the people you see in wheel-chairs are on medication that makes them gain wait. So the Op has decided they're just lazy, when in fact they were a healthy weight before taking their life saving medication.

One of my teachers needed a wheel-chair after a surgery for a joint infection. Did the surgery have anything to do with her weight? Nope, she got the infection when she donated bone marrow to her son. Her being over-weight simply had nothing to do with her mobility issues... Think the OP would have guessed that, and not called her "lazy"?

I sincerely doubt that anyone is going to take this advice but if you see someone in a wheel-chair or ECV and start to judge, stop yourself and say:

"I don't know that person, I shouldn't judge, I shouldn't comment, I shouldn't stare. I have no idea why they need their ECV/WC and its none of my business."

I loved all the posts saying the OP didn't say anything about legitimate users, why is everyone getting so upset? Because, my Dad and I ran into alot of people like the OP, who made alot of assumptions about his wheel-chair use. Not one of them was correct.

Regardless of what any idiot tells you there is NO benefit to using a wheel-chair or ECV, other than mobility for the user. When you get off the bus we wait for you, the lines for all rides are much longer for wheel-chair and ECV users (Kilimanjaro Safari's it was an additional 40 minutes than what an able bodied person would have waited). When you see someone in a w/c exiting a line they are not getting directly on the ride, they are going somewhere else to WAIT.

Wow, I actually read through this whole thread! (And want to go on record saying that I was not offended by the OP's post.)

I think some things have been blown WAY out of proportion. People tend to sometimes read into things, then misinterpret what people say and let it get out of control.

AND think there are a few things we can ALL agree on:

Many people need the help of an ECV or WC. They deserve respect and assistance. Some people abuse the system. They ruin it for everyone.

Not every resort is for every person. Some people like value resorts, others do not. The OP just let people know why they didn't like Pop. Basta!

Some people shop at Walmart, some don't. There was no "class" implication in the OP's post, whoever got that out of it is really reaching.

Now for my own impressions and OPINIONS:

I don't like the value resorts. DH and I went for our 5th wedding anniversary in 2006 and stayed at ASMu. I specifically remember saying while we were there that I never wanted to stay at a value again. It was too crowded, with TONS of kids (many not being disciplined by their parents) and lots of rude adults. I still remember getting on the bus one night and a woman was basically cursing about the bus driver because he made her fold her stroller. She was using all kinds of foul language around her kids and all the other kids on the bus. I was disgusted. The whole week I felt like we were a bunch of cattle while there. At the time I knew NOTHING of disboards or anything like that. I was someone who had been to WDW MANY times and felt like I was pretty much in the know with most things Disney. (And since we do not have children yet, I'm sometimes not always used to being around SO MANY. So PLEASE don't anyone start flaming me because of anything like that. Some childless couples don't always think about that whole thing.) I figured that on future trips I would just need to save more to stay mod. But fortunately we were able to buy into DVC and I never have to worry about it again!

I also very much dislike Walmart, but it has NOTHING to do with any kind of imaginary "class" system. We don't like Walmart because of it's history of poor labor policies, discrimination against female employees, their history of running local small businesses OUT of business, and the whole thing about the company giving money to right wing republican causes. We try to avoid Walmart as much as possible.

I really resent your comment about scooters. I have a torn meningius in my right knee and could never walk 8-10 miles a day so I rented a scooter. That way I was comfortable but could enjoy being with my family. Some rides you do wait in line some you move up front because they have special sections etc. What about the thousands of strollers with 3-4 years old, do they both you too? Whyy don't you just stay home!! You are a very selfish person and that is not what Disney is about.
Obviously you get your money's worth at any of the WDW resorts and you make up your mind where you want to spend it. We stayed at POP and it was fine, not my favorite but I would stay there again if that was what I wanted to spend on a room.

Thank you for your kind words.

I do agree there will always be some people who are unwilling to listen.

When threads like appear on the DIS Boards I do reply because there are a lot guests at Disney who do assume that guests in WC and EVC's recieve a lot of peksat Disney.

I try to inform others what is really going on when WC and EVC are pulled out of the main line.

Many do not know what we who are in WC's and EVC's know.

We are not be taken out line so we can take cuts.
We are being pulled out so we can board the ride.
Period.
Sometimes we need totake an elevator ( Test Track and Lights., Moters, Action are a couple.) Sometimes we need to go exit because our WC and EVC's cannot climb stairs.
( Splash Mountain.) Sometimes the entrace is a moving sidewalk ( Peter Pan, SSE).

Some rides are not accessible at all (TTA).

When I post on these threads I am always hoping a couple of DIS readers will become just a little more aware that those of using WC's and EVC's at WDW do not get a lot of extra perks.

P.S.

(As a mother of 4 I do also wish Disney had more options and more affordable options for larger families at WDW.

I also understand why you would not want fold outs after spending so many nights on them in the hospital.) :grouphug: for you and yours.

BTW:
I never thought you were stalking me I understand completly.

I hope you and your family also have many more magical trips to WDW!:wizard:

If you guys want this thread closed someone should hit the red triangle with the ! in it and let them know. Safetymom is usually around and she will deal with something if she thinks she needs to.

lilysmom (i am so sad we both have daughters named lily) - I am angry at this thread and that on this earth there are so many self centered people as this thread is showing. I dont need to talk to anyone about it, I just get my therapy by posting back. You have not a clue

i have stayed at Pop since 2005 and i <3 it for my family and i its a place to sleep so why pay $250 to sleep a night thats stupid we're there to enjoy the parks not spas and useless stuff like that

We love the Pop! We've been 4 times and can't wait to go back this December.

Different strokes for different folks - if you don't like it - nobody's making you stay there.

im sorry, the original poster meant what they said.thats all.maybe they dont realize how it sounded or read, but they meant it.Please stay at a moderate or deluxe next time and for anyone else planning a trip-if you like luxury then dont stay at a value, thats all.And if lots of people in scooters getting a little preferential treatment in order to make things easier on them, then dont go to places like a huge theme park where you will see lots of people, with a small minority being unable to get around with their legs.thats all.enough with the pc garbage. They meant it.

I am relatively new to the Disboards. I have read every post on this thread and it has made me very sad. Disney is the happiest place on earth - but you would not know it from reading the harsh words everyone is saying to one another.

We all have opinions, and we will not all agree. That is why there are so many choices at Disney. Some love values, some love moderates, some deluxe.

In the development I live in some choose to stay at values because they are "park commandoes" and don't wanT to spend a lot on a hotel, some of my neighbors stay moderate, and some stay deluxe - like us - (and we are not "stupid" for spending our money on the hotel, its just what WE enjoy). We are all of the same economic status, we all just make different choices and we all have fun at Disney.

Dear, Chimmie. I wish you would take the time to have someone read the very first original post to you. I did mean every word that I wrote. It describes my experience of POP. You can jump for joy that you will not see me there again. Wait, that might be better for me. De " nile" is just not a river in Egypt it is running all over this post. By the way, that was a joke. Well, maybe not.

With all due respect......there are 2,880 rooms at POP...how could you not expect lines and a busy counter service area?

I expected lines and busy counter service. I also expected more buses since the POP has the most people. And I expected to not have to clean a table myself to find a place to sit.

Well, you're DVC members now....hopefully no more table cleaning on the horizon:)

I can't wait to cash in some points and go again. Seems like a great investment. By the way Welcome Home, Right?
