Just got back yesterday from POP and wanted to report what we thought about our stay.
Check-In: Very quick, waited in line maybe 2-3 minutes. We paid for preferred and were put in the 60's Mowgli building, away from the Hippy Dippy Pool. (Would have been very upset if we were put in the rooms near the pool--it was always packed and VERY noisy, even late at night.) We requested connecting rooms and got them no problem. Sent a fax a few days prior to arrival and asked again at check-in. We arrived and checked-in around 12 noon and our rooms were ready by 2:45. IMO, as far as distance from the busses/food, the preferred location was no nearer than any of the others.
DSA's: There seemed to be plenty throughout the resort, but people didn't seem to regard them very much and smoked where and whenever they pleased.
Don't know if our room was formerly a smoking room, but I couldn't detect any smell accept in the bathroom when I assume our neighbor's were smoking in theirs...they smoked on the balcony outside our door several times everyday. The smell was gone when they left.
Pool: Always packed and crowded...not much more to tell there.
Food Court/Mugs: There were only the YOMD mugs, only the taller ones, all with blue tops and either blue, gray or black handles.
The food selection was good, but the portions were quite a bit less than what they normally seem to be. Maybe in preparation for the free dining...
During our stay the food court wasn't crowded in the morning until after 8:30 or so. (We never went at night.) Upon leaving yesterday, we noticed the crowd had gotten worse and the common area (arcade, lobby, foot court) was VERY crowded, loud and busy.
I'm glad we left when we did!
Bus Service: MUCH better than last time! The longest we waited for a bus was about 30 min once (in the rain!). Other than that, we didn't wait long at all, even at night leaving during EMH. The busses were hot...no AC? Aug in FL? Who knows... One guy told us he 'didn't run the air, it was FL'
Other: We had to rent and sign for a luggage trolly--never heard of that before.
Our room wasn't near to ANY parking lot. (It was actually closer to the 90's lot than the 60's lot.)
Laundry: Detergent (Tide or Cheer Only) was $1 per box...washer and dryer were $2ea. There were plenty available...of course I was washing at 7:30am. Facility was very clean though.
Most importantly, the ICEE machine: Well, it was there...but that's about as much good as it did us. It seemed to constantly be filled and working and turning, but we never saw one that you could actually use...they were always covered in plastic.
Anything else?
