POP refurbed rooms with Flat Screens! Update Page 13 **

Did you request building 70s building in advance or did you just ask at check-in?? I will be checking in on Thursday and was thinking about faxing a request asking for building 6 (refurbished room) or just taking my chances and asking when we check in. We booked a preferred room. I can't wait to see pictures and hopefully see it in person in a few days!!!

Thanks!

I called the regular resort reservation line and requested 70's building, top floor about 4 days before I got here. I got third floor 70's.

Forgive me if this question has been posed but how did POP get a refurb so soon?

How does the whole refurb thing work at Disney? You can't honestly say POP was up next? AsMovies looks pitiful (sorry if that offends). I think it is awesome they got flat screens in the room and yes I agree that does make a difference in the way the room feels. However like the pp said why not CBR? I find it interesting that Disney is putting a lot more into thier values than thier mods. Good for us I suppose so we can save money. Now all they need to do is to put awnings over the bus stop area with fans and we have ourselves a winner. LOL

peyjax: Pop opened in December 2003. It needed a refurb.

I was in Movies at the end of December and had a room with a great mattress and new-ish carpeting--the stars were gone, replaced by the same stuff in Sports and Music. Don't remember what the TV looked like, but the room was pretty nice.

Was movies done? We were there for Thanksgiving into first week of December, still the same room. No star carpeting? What about the bedspreads?
Movies is in need of a refurb, but I think Pop needed it more, just my opinion of the times we've been at both resorts over the past year and a half (3 times each resort), and always had a nicer looking room at Movies than Pop. Also, the values are so popular, quite a turnover of people constantly in there, I would assume rooms would take quite a bit of wear and tear and be due for refurbs.
Now just need a refurb at POFQ, one of our other favs!

I am in building 6, in the 70's section right now in a refurb room. When I got here yesterday it smelled brand new. I think I am one of the first to stay in it. New mattress, bedspreads, tv, dresser and coat rack. it's very nice.
Don't see any construction going on in building 10, I herd it was completed. I think they are working on part of the 60's area.
I requested 70's area and had no problem getting it.
Only bad news is the with the new flat screen tv's there are no new channels, the same old limited wdw TV. What a waste of a nice TV.

Pictures, please! Also... is there a wallpaper border in the room? The photos on allears show none... just wondered if after those were taken they put something up? Just looked like something was missing from the room w/o having a border! thanks!

Disney does a soft refurb ... every 6 years and a hard refurb every 10 to 12 years.

A Soft Refurb is new draperies... bed spreads, mattresses and paint.

A hard refurb is everything.. new furniture.. new wall trim, new wall hangings (Frequently) .. new TV etc.

Pop is undergoing a hard refurb more or less on schedule.. maybe a bit early.. but it really needed it since it truly hadn't had much of a soft refurb with the exception of some new mattresses a couple of years back.

I am so excited to hear about the resort refurb! I am going in October with my 7 year old son and my mother. It's our first time in a value resort and the Pop looks like it will be a blast for my little one! We will be in a preferred room and I was hoping we would get the 60's area! Now with the refurb it will be even better!

Please send pics of the new rooms!

Just curious, what are the odds of the 60's being complete in June? We are going in June and last year I requested the 60's facing the lake. we loved it there but I would love to have a refurbished room. Can't wait to see photos!!!:cool1:

It's really a fair bet that most of the resort refurb should be complete by June.. maybe not EVERY single room.. but most of them.

We checked in on the 10, around 8 a.m. At registration, I said I heard some of the rooms in the 70's building had been redone and was it possible to stay there. I had not made any pre-trip requests. The Cm said as long as I didn't mind an upper floor room.

We were in the 8 track tape building facing the lake. Parking lot was M-T! Everything was brand new. DIdn't take a lot of photos.:confused3 the carpet was a collage of solid, flat pieces and plush mickey ears. very funny on your feet. The spreads blue toned print of characters in the decades, were clean and spotless. there was not a border that I noticed. the privacy curtain was plain beige.

I did notice a big worker bruhaha-coffee klatch going on in the am in the 70's lot. there were lots of mattresses going in but I can't remember the building. Not familiar with Pop. I think it was one in from the pacman building?..

if i have photos, i'll post later.

We are heading to Pop in mid April and I'm really hoping for a refurbished room also. Not to sound negative, but does anyone on here find it odd that there are no pictures of any of the new rooms other than what is listed on all ears? I keep seeing posts requesting pictures, but honestly I will believe it when I see it. If you have time to sign on to this site, then why not pull out a camera (or camera phone) and take a pic to upload to here?? Seems odd, but hopefully someone will post something soon.

I keep looking for pics other than the pics on allears. Does anyone know of another dis thread with more pics of the refurbished rooms? Thanks!

I'll be at POP with the fam on the 24th. We requested the '60s. Hopefully we get that or a REFURB! If we get a refurb, I'll definitely take pictures:thumbsup2

I'll be checking in next week on the 18th (for my birthday on the 19th!!) and I'm planning to fax a request tomorrow for 70s section building 6 and we'll see if I get it!!

Just changed my December reservation to POP and requested the 70's bldg facing the lake. We need two connecting rooms or close together at least. We have 2 adult daughters so if we are a few rooms apart it would be okay.
Stayed at POP a few years back and loved it but did want to try another resort but after reading about the refurb I couldn't resist coming back. The All Stars Movies was our other resort so I think coming back to POP is a better choice anyway, refurb or not. :thumbsup2

Cool. We were there in 2008 and found it fine so I will really be looking forward to going back at some point now with the new rooms....and i am embarrassed to say that we didn't even know there was a lake there.....didn't spend much time there besides swimming, eating and sleeping....it is amazing what you miss in WDW, so much to see! Maybe we'll check that out next time......
