Pop Century Room Renovations

Don't forget he is just one of the blog/vlog/twit folks. One of the bigger ones BUT still room for wrong.

I would think there will be noise, traffic and visual blight. If this station is going in the "overlook" they talk about added to the bridge .... then guessing they have to put in retain walls to empty the water in that area. Install deep and strong pilings to be able to support this thing which will involve cranes, pile driver (ya know boom boom boom) and more. Imagine the bridge will be closed or somewhat restricted. They aren't going to bring all the stuff needed out there on a boat only so I imagine land impacted OR more of that lake drained.

Who knows - hopefully Disney will announce this weekend - but everything so far is speculation from it's even happening to which hotels it will actual service. Maybe I missed but no where have I seen the word gondola written. If it's true and POP is included expect a couple years of construction, the loss of the pretty lake view forever (70's might still be peaceful) and prices to rise.
 And I was so looking forward to my first real stay at Pop! My past stays were just 1 nighters.

My guess one reason the rehab started at 90's was to have as many rooms done as they can away from lake, so they can be working on closed buildings by the construction while it gears up.
So much for my quiet lake view, and being able to walk across the bridge to AoA food court. Ugh. Guess I'll just watch and closer to the day make my final room request.

Also, can someone speak to online checkin: I did the "Start Online Checkin" process on the website, not the app, and didn't see options for choosing particular buildings or sections.

You will be able to select options for particular buildings or sections at the 60 day mark, the same day you can make your FP+ reservations. I looked Monday when I was at 61 days and couldn't request a building but yesterday at the 60 day mark I was able to select a room location. Have always stayed in the 50's or 60's section and branching out this trip, requesting a room in the 80's section!

Just a heads up, you may want to make your selections again in a few weeks after the 80s buildings are back up because I chose that as well and it keeps deleting it from my requests, even though it gives it to you as an option.

Well sonovagun...really hope they don't close the bridge. We'll be at POP the first part of December and were hoping to make good use of a lake view and the bridge to get to AoA, maybe use their busses if POP's were backed up.

Just read the following on a fb page I follow

POP Century Refurbishment update video: Building 9 will officially open on July 24th and Building 7 is scheduled to open August 14th.

I hope this timeline stays accurate. We check in August 19 with a Standard Pool View, so either the computer pool in the 80s or bowling pin pool in the 50s. We are hoping for a new room but will be happy either way. Our main request that was called in was for connecting rooms with my father who is traveling with us, but one of the new rooms would be nice. We did online check in and had 80s as a room request, but not sure if we should take this off. Does making a request on the online check in cancel out ones that were made by our travel agent?

I'm at Pop now. There's a bunch of equipment that showed up today over near the 50's section. Looks like pieces of a big yellow crane maybe

Thanks for the update. Keep us posted. Or I should say, just tell us any more info. you have when you return home. Enjoy your vacation. :)

Well...the good news is that there is a path all the way around the lake so even if the bridge is closed you'll still be able to go back and forth between the resorts. The bad news is, depending on your room location at Pop, it could be a looooonnnggg walk.

We're staying at AoA next June and I'll be sad to not have easy access to Pop if the bridge is closed. Our adult children and spouses usually get rooms at Pop so we're all close to each other and can come and go from the parks together. It would be nice if there was a shuttle van that ran between the two resorts if the bridge is closed....but I'm not expecting that -- it's just a dream. :)

I was wondering if they'd have a shuttle too!

Ok. I'm trying to wrap my head around why the heck the Gondola is going in the middle of the bridge.

Why wouldn't it be stationed at either end of the lake? What am I misssing here? I simply don't understand why they would add unnecessary congestion to a small bridge rather than fairly open spaces? I'm sure there's a reason for the placement but I can't think of what it is.

My guess and this is only a guess is because then it would be centrally located for both resorts.

Has anyone been able tp update or do the online check in? I can't update it for some reason.

I agree -- the placement is to make it centrally located. If it was located at the end of the resorts by the LM and 50's rooms (where the boat launch is going), it would be a half mile walk for those guests staying in Cars Building 2 and the 90's building. I think that will start to push the limit for some people -- I know I wouldn't want to have to walk a mile just to get to and from the transportation to 2 different parks (and I'm going under the assumption that this will be the only transportation to EP & DHS from those resorts as that is what the trusted insiders have stated...and they've been right about pretty much everything else gondola related so far). Having to walk that far for those parks would make me either stay at a different resort or possibly not go to those parks as often. And if you get a LM or Cars Bldg 2 room to be close to the Gondola, then you're far away from the bus stops and food court (though not as far as having to walk the entire length of the resort to get to the gondola).

But that's just my guess. :)

The location is logical so that two resorts, especially that close to one another, can use it "readily" I'll agree.

I'll be keeping an eye on this for sure in the upcoming months though. Originally we were going to request building 4, lakeview, so that we can make good use of the bridge. If the crane and equipment are all back near buildings 4 and 5, then I may reconsider a building 9 standard room for about the same distance walk to the POP buses. At least that way we'd get a new room for sure as well since we're going in December.
