Pop Century Room Renovations

We just planned a last minute after cancer trip to Disney on 8/6-8/9. We wanted s value resort and the TAsuggested Pop century. But now reading I see about the renovations. What can we expect? How will we be impacted? Any section we should request? Thank you!

We'll be there for 2 weeks as well :) Hoping our beloved bridge closes either before or after we leave! Fingers crossed for the both of us!
And for me!! I'll be there 11 days end of November! Before all the Gondola news, I had visions of a peaceful pretty lake view, strolls across the bridge, birds singing, lol! Sigh. Very disappointing. We aren't park commandos and spend afternoon breaks at the resort. This is going to impact our vacay :(

so back to POP renov... I have looked and where is the origianl PoP thread with the pictures? does this or any posting keep an update on what buildings are finishend and when?? or a schedule etc.. Post 1 has no infos...

So far only the 90's and the 80's.

Unless something has just recently happened - I have not seen anything yet about the 80s being opened to guests.

The 90s bldg (bldg 8) is finished and has been open to guests since early June.

From what I've read here, 80s bldgs are still being worked on. Some pics/videos/reports have shown rooms practically finished, then a poster here reported still seeing heavy construction and gutted rooms in the 80s. Another poster reported a FB source saying bldg 9 would open 7/24 and bldg 7 on 8/14 - but we've never heard any official dates or schedule directly from Disney.

It seems like it has been a while since we've had any onsite reports here. Hopefully someone who is there now or going soon can update us on construction status.

We will be checking- in in 2 weeks. I have requested 4 rooms in the 80's section so I'm hoping the August 24th date is correct. I will be sure to post an update even if we do not get the new rooms. I have been following this thread since it started and appreciate all the updates.

If you want a refurbished room request 90's/80's. If you want to be far away from refurbishment construction, request 50's. But a lakeview 50's/60's might put you smack dab in the lake construction zone which hasn't started yet, but could start any day. I feel like they might start refurbishing one of the 70's building by early August.

It's hard to know what to request. :scratchin

I knew the 80's were not open yet, but they were soon to be opening. I guess I should have rephrased that. Thank you for being more specific. I wasn't sure of the building numbers either.

No worries. For all I knew, the 80s might have been open. And the OP asked about what was done or almost done, which would be 90s & 80s. :daisy:

I don't believe a shuttle will be provided between Pop and AoA as it's not Disney's practice to supply resort to resort transportation.

Some resorts have it via the monorail or boats but I believe even that transportation is designed mainly to take people to and from the parks and the fact that it can be used to get from resort to resort is a bonus.

If someone at Pop wants to visit AoA while the bridge is closed and are unable to walk, taxis are available and I guess it wouldn't be too expensive to go that short distance. We have used taxis in the past when we have had an early/late dining reservation at another resort.

They have provided such transport during food court renovations--e.g. among All-Stars when each had its food court closed and renovated, and between POR and POFQ when POFQ's food court was down for refurb.

That said, I'm not sure that this work (since it's not about the food...) is material enough for them to add a bus line...

Those resorts are "sister" resorts. Pop and AofA are not. That's probably going to be the main reason as to why they won't provide a shuttle.

That's true. But the main reason is that there is zero incentive for them to provide one. Now as @DavidHobart stated, if one of them had their food court unavailable then they would. They do this when the Boardwalk pool is down, they have golf carts taking BWI guests over to Stormalong Bay.

I agree. There's no real reason for them to offer a shuttle between resorts as there are no food court, pool, etc. shut downs at either resort that would justify the cost of the shuttle. It was just a dream/wish of mine....not something I really thought would happen. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the bridge is open when we're there next summer. If it's not, no big deal...I really don't need to go to Pop for anything, it's just nice to have the option to take their bus from a park and then walk over to AoA. But I'm not willing to walk around the lake for that convenience.
