Pop Century Room Renovations

I like soft, I have 4" foam topper. POP beds are firm BUT I'm usually tired enough from the day that I sleep okay. Not great, but not bad. For me bad means I don't sleep, I walk around and end up in tears from exhaustion. And yes it's happened.

They are going to have to speed up or do more rooms at same time. At this rate they'll not meet their deadline. So hopefully they are figuring out their routine and we'll see an increase in the speed. Original schedules posted showed something like 20 days and they aren't even close to that so far.

If it were me I would only request a renovated room. Call and get it on your reservation, call back as you get closer and make sure it's still there. You have just as good a chance as anyone else. You always can ask to be moved to a different location after check-in if what you want is not available.

Thanks, a renovated room is on my ressie and is my only request. Fingers crossed I am one of the lucky ones who gets a renovated room!!!!

You'd be surprised by how many guests will have no idea there is a room refurb going on. It took me years to realize that us here on the DIS, with much information, make up a very small percentage of guests.

It might hurt at first, but see below.

Definitely. And you stand a very good chance of getting one at some point if you don't upon check in.

Tough to say right now. We should have a better grasp of that about July 1st.

Thanks @dansdad for your insights. I'm watching this thread like a hawk so hopefully by early July we will all know something more :)

DIS folks are a very small percentage of the people going to Disney or staying at POP. Most will be clueless and not even think to ask about this.

I hope most guests are clueless about the renovation since Pop is sold out for our stay...Hard to believe that 2,880 rooms have been booked. That's a boat load of people to be competing with!!!!!!!

I was very shocked when I realized this fact. It's true, people who research on the DIS and other WDW boards are a very small percentage of overall guests.

I'm getting a little nervous about our trip in about 2 1/2 weeks. We have two rooms booked and I've been reading a few not so happy reviews about the construction. I do have on our reservation to please be put away from construction but worried since we have the two rooms they might not be able to. Please tell me how it was if you've been recently.

Did you call and ask for a renovated room or is this one of the options during online check in now? I have until December but eagerly awaiting the first few people who get to stay

Keep in mind buildings will be closed for renovations so slightly less than sold out

I requested a renovated room when I booked my FD BB last September. My request is noted on my reservation. I have never done online check in.....

The options during Online Check In are predetermined and very limited. You'll have to call the Main Reservations line and add a request for a renovated room to your reservation. This can be done any time from the day you book up until 4-5 days out. When you do it within that time frame makes no difference.

Well probably more like 2500 with some being out of commission but I'm not surprised ...
- Reduced number of rooms due to construction
- Free Dining
- Free Dining at moderates is QSDP so many jumped ship to POP & Allstars to save lots of money
- Low season rates plus some generous discount offers for a value

I'm curious what do all of you think the lack of carpet will do to noise level? We were going to do a split stay at Pop next year, but we're all very light sleepers. Obviously there's more noise of footsteps on a hard surface than there is with carpet, but laminate flooring itself often creaks as well. A top floor room would eliminate some of this, but I still wonder how much noise will carry through the walls. Like others, I'm also a little upset about having no table at night after the kids are asleep. I'm wondering if All Stars might be in our future instead.

No noticeable difference. It's a soft vinyl, not a hardwood. No creeks that we could hear.

Not sure why people are complaining about the lack of color. The current rooms have a lot of color, if you consider tan and beige to be "colorful"

Seriously, the current wall colors are off-white (with the exception of one colored wall). The carpet is mostly brown, the curtains are brown, the bathrooms are beige and muted green, the bed spreads are white (with a small strip of slightly-colorful, useless fabric). The only color in the rooms are the one photo collage on the wall.

What color are you guys going to miss?

These new rooms look great, and I can't wait to stay in one.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but all I see are stark white walls when I look at the renovated room pictures. That makes all the difference to me. A tan or beige colour would go a long way in adding some warmth or personality to a room. Any type of off white would pull the room together. But plain white? No.

I was thinking of bringing removable wall clings to put on the slider door to liven up the room! I know some people don't want DISNEY shoved in their faces but I personally go to disney to be emmersed in all things disney! I don't love that they don't have an accent all with some color but its not going to make me book elsewhere... we slept in full beds at past stays and its not a deal breaker to have to sleep in one. I will most likely take down the murphy bed and keep it down and bring bed trays for meals if needed. I think POP needed this and I think the ALL stars need it even more! The carpet always grossed me out along with the cloth shade going into the bathroom so I am all for the changes!

Does anyone know if the new rooms will have a better setup for working and charging devices? Our DD wants to book Pop for the Princess Half Marathon but her DH will need to work while they're there. He's a radiologist and will need a fairly reliable internet and desk-type workspace with multiple outlets.

Thanks!

I've packed a power bar in my suitcase the last number of trips I've taken to Pop. An easy way to charge everything and also keep it all in one location rather than scattered around the room.

Once June hits, everytime someone posts in here I am going to mini freak thinking it is finally someone staying in one of the reno rooms. As someone else said, hopefully the pace picks up and that we keep getting info on the status/progress and what buildings/rooms are renovated
