Pop Century Room Renovations

Not sure why people are complaining about the lack of color. The current rooms have a lot of color, if you consider tan and beige to be "colorful"

Seriously, the current wall colors are off-white (with the exception of one colored wall). The carpet is mostly brown, the curtains are brown, the bathrooms are beige and muted green, the bed spreads are white (with a small strip of slightly-colorful, useless fabric). The only color in the rooms are the one photo collage on the wall.

What color are you guys going to miss?

These new rooms look great, and I can't wait to stay in one.

I found that funny too - I didn't really recall anything noteworthingly colorful about the old rooms - maybe the poster-collage of stuff from that specific decade, but that was it. To me, all the colorfulness (or garishness, to some) came from the exterior of the Pop Century buildings, not the interiors. I remember last time I stayed they had just gotten done putting a fresh coat of Nuclear Orange on the 70's building, and it was almost hard to look at without burning your retinas. :)

During my last stay, a couple weeks ago, I had a hard time telling the difference between the years of set-in dirt and staining in the carpet and the original coloring of it. Those hardwood (or laminate) floors look great to me.

That being said, I really like Pop Century the way it is/has been, but I'm not upset about the changes with the new design. In fact, if we decide to leave our current "home" resort of AoA and go back to getting connecting rooms at a value resort, Pop Century will be my #1 choice by far. In fact, there's a part of me that's contemplating not even considering AoA for our next stay and just going to Pop.

This is how I feel too. The decor of a room definitely isn't the deciding factor on where we will stay, especially at Disney when we spend so much time in the parks. If we decide to do a trip where we only spend a couple days in the parks we would be more inclined to stay offsite in a nice condo where we'd have more space and amenities. We like the overall appeal of Pop Century (clean, great food court, good bus service, fun pools, great CMs, lake views, fireworks views, etc.) and had a great stay there; and the added bonus for our family is that since we have to get two rooms, this layout would work for us.

I also don't understand the "lack of colors"... An "old" room photo on google image:

Sorry if this has been asked already, but does anyone think/know if these refurbs will result in a higher price rate for Pop? With this, the gondola system and the rumor of Disney getting rid of resort classifications, I'm worried the rates will go up a lot or will exclude Pop from any room discounts (like AoA standard rooms are treated now during discounts)

At this point no one know for sure but it's pretty logical that it will... :(

If we're lucky, the All-Star will at least stay an affordable on-site option but someone said contractors told them they are moving to the All-Stars after Pop so even that is uncertain.

I think the new floors are vinyl plank. That's what they've been putting in the refurbished DVC villas. Didn't take long for reports of scratches & gouges to show up afterwards.

I wonder if that skinny drawer under the main shelf on the beverage stand can be used as a make shift desk/tabletop when the bed is down.

One can wish.

There I go again, beating the no tabletop dead horse. It's really bothering me!

You might find that you won't put stuff on the table as there will be other flat surfaces to use (the beverage center and the dresser -- the TV is mounted on the wall so that provides a large empty flat surface). We used to use the table as a catchall as well. Then we started staying at AoA and for whatever reason, we don't throw stuff on the table there. Probably because there are so many other places to throw our stuff. :)

When we stayed at Pop Century, I would always (and still do, actually) take some small collapsible bins (fabric ones that fold flat) to use for all of our "stuff" on the table. I'd have one for card keys/sunglasses (now Magic Bands), one for receipts, and one for misc. stuff. It helps keep things in one spot and they're easy to move. I bought them at the Dollar Store but I've also seen them at Walmart.
I have used the hang up shoe bags but didn't think of the bins - Great idea! Thanks

Like a PP suggested, they could do a wall of color (I like the soothing of the blue) on the far wall before the bathroom. It can easily be touched up only a small nightstand would stand in their way. It would set apart the bed space from bath space and visually make it appear the room is bigger/deeper than it is. All white just makes no sense to me, for many reasons.

This coming weekend I am staying at the new Hyatt Place just outside DS. I am getting a new, modern, laminate furniture in earthy tones "suite" (plus breakfast) for much less than I could stay at a value. They fully pulled off a classy, warm, inviting room in similar colors with the use of more of the color. A bit more color could completely change the look of POP rooms from sterile to inviting.

I actually like the fact that the rooms are less vibrant, it makes it more relaxing after a day of visual overload.

As to artwork, I really like this new art and the bed runner from the test rooms. I kind of hope they plan to sell those. The current room only has the one piece of artwork on the back wall, but the bed wall is color and it makes all the difference.

Well, the good thing is it would be easy for them to add an accent wall color on the back wall. Maybe they will get enough feedback that they will add it. It would be cool if they used blue in some rooms, green in others and orange in others.
I agree. The rooms that are too vibrant (the Lion King suites at AoA come to mind) are just too much for me. This looks much more upscale with some fun art and theming. And the resort itself will retain all the fun outside.

This renovation is making this an appealing place to stay for us - we have done POR, CBR and AKL before, but the double beds were/are a deal breaker for us, and I definitely prefer the new look.

I happen to love the clean lines of the refurb. It makes me more excited to stay there.

I realize the chance of getting a refurb room in July are slim to none, but I wouldn't mind.

I apologize if this has been asked before, but what size beds are the refurbished rooms going to have? The picture looks like maybe a queen bed and a murphy bed. Or is that a king bed?

Does anyone know if the new rooms will have a better setup for working and charging devices? Our DD wants to book Pop for the Princess Half Marathon but her DH will need to work while they're there. He's a radiologist and will need a fairly reliable internet and desk-type workspace with multiple outlets.

Thanks!

LOVE it. Love, love, love. So clean, simple, and gets rid of the jumbled mess the other room was. (As much as I love Pop, it had a definite look of "value" to the rooms).

Queen and the Murphy bed is a double. The believe is that the Murphy is like the ones at AoA. From what I've read, they are actually fairly comfortable and some even say they prefer them to the reqular POP beds. One obvious difference is that the Murphy bed at the POP table will have two chairs as opposed to the AoA which seats 4.

One of the questions I think many of us are wondering. I'm hoping that the beverage stand/cabinet upper shelves would have extra plugs that could be a perfect spot for charging devices.

Thanks! He'll need three different devices going at one time. The setup at the Contemporary would be perfect but they're budgeting like mad in order to pay off their student loans.
