Pop Century Room Renovations

He was telling me about only where the curtain is now. He said nothing of changing the other one. When I got to room, unless they go accordion there is no room to put normal pocket. My guess would be not much change.

Do to what they are putting in lieu of curtain I could see they had framed out and building "header" at top of current door where now there is nothing,

Woo hoo info! Awesome super appreciated chances are in place of curtain will be a door similar to this

If you look at the pictures of the "sample" room that have been floating around for the last few months, you can see the edge of the sliding barn door in one of the pictures. It's white and it's visible along the wall between the queen bed and the bathroom. There's a picture on another message board from inside a room currently being renovated and there is a white header board where that door would be that is consistent with the one in the "sample" picture. So that picture appears to be accurate with regard to the sliding door.

As far as the potential pocket door between the tub/toilet area and the sink/vanity area -- with the amount of work they're doing (including completely removing the vanity, sink, toilet, tub, etc.) it's completely possible that they are re-framing the wall that divides those two areas to accommodate a pocket door. Standard pocket doors are between 24-36" wide so it's very likely that a 24" door (possible larger) would fit in that space -- especially with a re-frame. I was always frustrated that the bathrooms in those rooms were very difficult to maneuver in and out of because of the door opening into the space. A pocket door makes perfect sense there and I hope they are included. The construction list refers to both the sliding barn door as well as a pocket/telescoping door so I'm holding out hope! :)

I think we are all on same page there will be some doors at the bed/sink doorway. I could see those openings. They have added a header to door but there has been no change in the wall structure.

Could be they are doing some work to inside wall, I'm just sharing what he said. He talked of barn door and telescoping in same breath. The only photo I saw of test room only shows small portion of "barn door" and the fact that there is a "cornice" vs bar as in other resorts, I could see it as telescoping.

I will try to go back tomorrow to see if I can clarify.

OK... What exactly is the difference between "barn door" and "telescoping door"?? (Can we tell I'm not a big HGTV watcher?)

Barn doors are big solid doors that slide on a track or pole much like real barn doors. Usually one big or two doors. They are at CSR and CBR.

A telescoping door is when you push back the doors they stack next to each other. Many times it is more than two panels but it's more about how it moves.

So I took from what he said that are barn doors that will push back to one side in telescoping fashion because I don't think Values have enough wall space to handle pushing a door back on both sides.

Gotcha. Thanks.

So all rooms will have the murphy bed? Or are there going to be some rooms similar to AOA Little Mermaid where there is two beds? I love POP but if there is only one queen bed and a murphy bed we won't be able to stay there with our older kids the murphy bed will be to uncomfortable. I hope that they take into account families with older kids.

From what HopperFan heard yesterday, yes, all rooms will eventually be 1 queen bed and 1 full Murphy bed.

I have heard the Murphy beds at AoA are quite comfortable as they are an actual mattress. Guess we'll find out when we try one of the new rooms at a future stay at Pop.

On our last stay at AoA (last month), the Murphy bed mattress was the most comfortable one in the room! Predictably, the sleeper sofa was pretty uncomfortable, but even the queen bed was overly firm (IMO).

My concern is having two older kids. I'm not sure a murphy bed would fit them both comfortably. If they were smaller yes. The bed may in fact be comfortable but not enough room. I hope Disney takes that into consideration when doing these renos. Not every family has small children. My 2 are pretty much adult

Thanks @PandaBear & Boo. I'm learning here too.

Is the mattress in/on a full Murphy bed the same size as a regular full mattress? I thought that it was which means the size of that bed is exchanging like for like in that the current beds at Pop are 2 full sized beds.

I'm nervous about being put near the construction. We will have two rooms with little one's and come back for naps during the day. :(

I'm not sure if you've stayed at Pop or not so hopefully this is helpful.

This thread and the Pop Renovation thread will have a good idea of where current construction is taking place. Pop is a large resort so it should be no problem asking for a room that is away from the construction and more than likely you won't even know the construction is taking place.

Hope this helps.

We have stayed at Pop but this does help alot. :)

We haven't stayed at AOA for a few years, but these were our exact thoughts.

I can't wait to see a final room :) I do love the rooms the way they are now, but I am always down for change!

If you don't think they will be comfortable sharing a full-size bed (which, as others have said, is the size of the murphy/innova bed in the renovated Pop rooms -- it's the same size as the beds that are currently in the rooms) you can always take an air mattress (or have one shipped to the room before you arrive). Our Walmart currently has a basic twin size air mattress for $7. While we haven't seen a completed room yet, I'm guessing there will be space somewhere on the floor for a twin mattress at night.

And I agree with the others who have said that of the 3 beds in the AoA suites, the muphy bed is the most comfortable -- and is very comfortable even when not comparing it to the other beds in the room. It's a standard size 8" thick mattress. The sofa bed was the least comfortable of the 3 but I've slept on much worse. My teen/adult kids who have slept on the sofa bed haven't complained about it (but were pretty vocal about the sofa bed being very uncomfortable in the hotels we stayed at on the drive down and home). And the queen bed is ungodly firm (IMO) and uncomfortable. I was sore and bruised from sleeping on it just one night. Now the first thing I do when we walk in to our suite at AoA is to call Mousekeeping and request extra blankets so I can make a mattress topper for the queen bed. On one of our trips our Mousekeeper noticed what I had done and actually remade the bed to put the blankets under the sheet. I'm hoping they don't use those same mattresses at Pop Century.

Agree with scrappingontario, your chances of being located near construction is fairly low. They are working on one wing of a building at a time and the POP has 10 buildings, so you have slightly less than a 10% chance of being located in the building were construction is occurring.

I do understand your concern though. This will be our first trip to the POP and first trip where we don't have to worry about little ones napping. My bigger concern is construction interfering with my afternoon nap:rotfl2:

I am not sure there will be room for a twin air bed after the renovation. A smaller child air bed may fit. I was in a room with two full beds, and the only area with room for an air bed was where the table and chairs were (with those moved to another location). They will be putting the beverage station cabinet in that spot now, which won't be so easily moved. The space occupied by the queen and Murphy will be equal to or wider than the original beds (depending on the space between them). There isn't enough length from the door to the far wall for one either. I think if anyone is considering using an air bed to have three sleeping surfaces, they should plan on two and not use the Murphy to sleep at all.

You might have just solved our dilemma! With the layout of the new room, we are nervous our mattress won't fit where the table was anymore, and if not we were tossing around where else we were going to stay. The two mattress idea might just solve our problem and keep us at our fav resort! Thank you! :flower1:
