Pop Century Room Renovations

Buses and cars crash, Monorails crash and break down, boats sink. There are risks with all forms of transportation, and I'm not interested in walking everywhere on property, so I'll take my chances.

I always use this example to put in perspective : People take their cars all the time, but really it's one of the most dangerous thing you do pretty much everyday. The chance of accidents are very high. I will never understand someone being afraid of a plane/boat/gondola accident, but not afraid to go to the market with their car ;)

Phobias is another subject entirely.

LOL. Yeah, I know what you're saying... My issue is the dangling on a wire in mid-air if something happens. And how you get down from that. But I'm just talking about IF something happens, not the chances of it.

Ok here is a random question. I really really really want a refurbished room. We are going in December, but I am afraid at this rate only one (and who knows maybe none) of the 70s buildings will be completed. We got free dining, and to get that had to book a Preferred room, so without the 70s being open my dreams will not come true. I am also concerned that I will be one of many people who are requesting a refurbed preferred room, and that I might miss out. I was wondering if when I get in if I could override my prfered room booking to a standard room ... I would still be willing to pay for the preferred room... I just want a refurbed room more than a non refurbed room so bad that I will give up preferred and will pay the extra still to get that if I need to. Do you think they would allow this, or will it be a hard no.

Sorry, I can't answer about their policy regarding that, or if their system will allow it, but crap, if not even one of the 70s buildings is done by December that would be upsetting. That's more than four months from now. I was banking on at least one done by November. I hope it works out for you!!

Now that bldg 9 is apparently open, surely we will hear reports soon of work starting on another bldg (presumably bldg 10). To be safe, figure 3 months to refurb a building, so I'm figuring/hoping bldg 10 open by early November. If they overlap closures like they did with the 80s bldgs, they might get bldg 6 open in early December.

I agree with those who have pointed out that we super-informed people on the Dis are a small minority of WDW guests, and a lot of folks don't even know or think about refurbed rooms, so there may not be too many requests for refurbed rooms.

That's so weird bc in order to get free dining I had to down grade from preferred to standard - I agree with others we should hopefully see more frequent and improved progress as we go now that one entire section is almost done

I bet they would give you a standard if you ask and they have one available. Then they'll be able to pixie dust someone in a standard room to a preferred. Win-win for all!

I am thinking of requesting the same thing. There aren't any standard rooms available during my stay-and I'm paying rack rate. I am pretty tempted to walk to the front desk and ask if I can get a standard refurbished room even though I booked and will have payed for a prefered.

Hmmm I have a preferred room booked for January, but getting a refurb is more important to us. I wonder if I should change it.

Is all of building 7 under construction now? I requested to be in the 80's section for our trip at the end of August and I am hoping for a refurbished room.

They are starting to work on building 10. They were carrying out old mattresses today and carrying other stuff in. Also, we walked over to AOA and they were starting to work on the bridge. They did let us cross. Taking a park day off tomorrow so I'll check out the bridge again.
