jenseib says :I don't think preffered are worht it at all. You will only be there 2 days and you said you won't be at the hotel much anyways. Nothing is further than about 7 minutes walk.
I agree with Disneygirlie. I do feel preferred is worth it to safeguard from getting the 80's or 90's section. Our last two stays we got the absolute most far out 80's room, and then the most remote 90's room. The walk was about 10 min. Our friends had a standard in the 70's (which we had requested the last two stays) and they were MUCH closer to the food court and bus stop. Even they thought we were far out....Disneygirlie says : The next time we went to Pop and I didn't request preferred we got put out in the '80s which was out in the boonies. It was way off to the side and I had to cross a parking lot each time to get there. Not a very attractive view to look at while going to your room on property. So this time we requested preferred, hopefully all will go well.
Some mornings or late nights we like to get a snack and take it back to the room. So our 10 min walk to and then 10 min walk back to the resort adds up over time. My kids found it a hassle to refill their mugs because of the hike there and back. But we were also there around 5 days so it most likely won't be much as an issue for you for just 2 nights. But if you ever decide to stay longer, I'd pay for the preferred. Sometimes you get lucky with a standard view and get the 50's or 70's, but I was not that lucky these past two visits.
Going Nutty,
I do believe AAA still has Disney travel books....as does Barnes Noble and Borders etc. As others have said....read these boards too !
I think you'll be "ok" with a standard room at POP, since it's only 2 nights. But in the future, you might want to get a guaranteed preferred. I've been to POP 4 times so far. Twice I got the 70's standard and was fine with it. But then the last two times I drew the short straw and got 80's and 90's....pretty far out and around the corner facing the parking lot.
Have fun planning your trip !
