The fence is covered with this green mesh.. but there are numerous holes in said mesh plenty big enough to take awesome pics thru... without 'trespassing' .. and without further making holes in the mesh.

This thread has been very interesting. I agree that the unfinished part of POP should be completed or torn down. There must be some sort of legal problem either a lawsuit or perhaps buildings are not up to code? As for there being snakes and spiders in the buildings I bet there are also some nasty cockroaches over there too! :scared1:

I remembered visiting River Country in 1983 I took a nap in a hammock and got a nasty sunburn! THey should clean it up it is probably full of mosquitos.

When we stayed at WL in January 2006 we frequently rode the boat from WL to the Magic Kingdom. I asked one of the CM's operating the boat about Discovery Island and he said that some birds nest there so Disney is just leaving it the way it is.

Apparently -- the scuttlebut I heard recently is that they are planning on finishing the Legendary Years.. but "supposedly" Bob Iger (or some executive ) was troubled over some of the themeing..

IE: Who would want to stay in the building for the 30's (The Depression).. and the war years? (the 40s..) Obviously they wouldn't be themed to those ideas.. but still people have their mindsets about those times.

So the last *I* heard.. and this is FULL-ON rumor.. was that some thematic elements were being adjusted and then construction might resume. And the same source confirmed that he/she too had heard that some of them *might* be finished as family suites.

Again - this is all RUMOR. Some, or none of it could be true.

As for bug infestations and the like.. Remember.. the buildings as they stand today -- floors, walls etc.. Are for the most part.. just concrete. One of the buildings has had some more work done in the interior.. But I suspect that would be trashed.

With concrete floors and walls.. the buildings could be easily cleaned up and ready to finish construction in short order.

Wouldn't it be just sooooo cool to explore the main building,,,check in area,,,,,food court ,,,,,store area,,,,,, What a tour! Disney aughta offer that one!

P.S. Don't mean to be stupid here but who is Bob Iger????

For those great pictures...its a shame they don't re-open up Discovery Island..they could make it into "Pirates Island" with Pirates chasing us around and around and around.....:woohoo: I would love to be chased and Caught by Captain Jack!

The main building is mostly empty.. they do run some housekeeping stuff out the backside of it.. You will see carts and such over there frequently. I don't believe much interior construction was finished on Legendary Hall.

And it is being used for housekeeping stuff... so technically it's not abandoned.

thanks, canadianguy!

won't be needing the plastic knife then....

Bob Iger = Mike Eisner's replacement.

How big of a zoom lens would one need to get great shots of The POP buildings, Discovery Island and River Country? The last 2 being taken from the boat that goes from the contempory, WL and Fort Wilderness? Thanks!:goodvibes

Personally I don't care as long as I'm getting a good deal on a room or a suite. It's all about saving money in the long run for me.:thumbsup2

HA! In theory at least.. the 20's and 30's would be the two center buildings.. if the decades followed the same basic layout as the other side of the lake.

So under that premise.. at least some of the 30s would be preferred rooms.

But your quote gives me an idea..

The 30s is the depression.. so.. since money is tight.. those rooms are cheaper. :)

As many others have stated, I really hope they complete Legendary Years or tear it down. I would not want to stay at POP today and have to see this haunting reminder of how life has changed since 9/11. This is not the kind of thing I want on my mind while at Disney.

When we were first staying at POP and knew about the Legendary years, I was really excited to see them completed because I love the music from those time periods. I wanted to stay there soo badly. My dream may never come true, I guess, huh? I understand what you said way back there about the costs and if it really is beneficial to have more value rooms. They fill up during peak times, but the other times.... Vacancy city!

You may be onto something!!:lmao: Maybe we should send Disney an e-mail with this suggestion.

Wow! What a facisinating thread, I just read all of it over the past hour. It will definitely be interesting to see what happens to this property over time. I hope they finish it, there is definitely a lot of potential.

Wow, very interesting to say the least. I had no idea there was an unfinished portion of Pop. Im even more surprised that it is visible from the other side of the resort, as those unfinished buildings do in fact look creepy.

I really hope they decide to do something with them soon...My vote is for an all suite value resort =)

I think you give the general public too much credit. I bet a lot of folks would go along with what ever "theme" Disney put on the 30's and 40's and would have no idea when the depression was or care if they did know. I would be willing to go along with Disney's theme.
