Pop Century beds really big enough for 4 grown adults?

Hey guys!

So I am planning a trip later this year for me and my extended family (includes my family of 4, me, DH, DD (5) and DS (2); my cousin, her husband, and DD (2); and my aunt (62), cousin (41), mom (58), and dad (59). While my family of 4 would prefer to stay in a deluxe or moderate hotel, the rest of my family wants to do Disney in the cheapest way possible. So I am recommending we do Pop Century based on all my research on the Value Hotels (although I have convinced them to at least pay for a preferred room because I can't stand the long walks back to the hotel rooms after a day in the park).

Currently we are planning to get 3 rooms (1 for my family of 4, 1 for my cousin's family of 3, and 1 for the remaining adults - 4 adults). I'm worried the Pop Century rooms and beds are too small and won't be comfortable for the 4 adults. However, I don't want to add another room because of their cost concerns.

So my main question is - can 4 adults really share 1 Pop Century room? Are the beds really big enough for 2 adults. My family seemed to be un-phased by the thought of sharing a room. Would it better to recommend one of the adults share a room with my cousin's family? While my family of 4 has been to Disney before - the rest of the family has not. I'm trying to plan the best trip I possibly can for them (I want them to love it as much as I do!). So what would you do if you were me?

It will be tight. And will the 4 adults in the one room be comfortable sharing 2 double beds? Also, don't forget to incorporate the nightly extra adult fee for any adult over 2 in the room. I believe it is $10 extra per adult over 2 per night.

Let me also add that after planning a couple of these multiple family trips, it is much better when each family is in the resort of their choice. So if your family would prefer a mod or deluxe, I recommend doing that. It is SO easy to meet up with people in WDW and share so many experiences. I have "sacrificed" my resort choice in the past and resented it the entire trip. And I also can't seem to live down "forcing" my Aunt, Uncle and Cousins to stay at POR with the rest of us when they wanted to be at the Poly.

If they don't mind the double beds, go for it!

But you might want to consider adding an extra room and getting standard rather then preferred. Going standard will save you an extra $45 per night plus then you won't have the additional adult fee of $20 per night. Having the extra space and extra washroom can make a huge difference in one's enjoyment.

I agree with others - go standard and get an extra room - they will appriciate not having to share a double bed

So agree with you .... Standard is the way to go.

Not unless they are on the small side. As others noted, they are "full" beds. I know my parents had a full bed when they were in their 20s and 30s, but now that they're in their 70s -- ain't no way!

I agree with standard and adding a room. I also agree with Dansdad on going with your choice of resort. It's your holiday too. And with cell phones and planning, it's very easy to meet up. On several occasions a friend has stayed at a different resort. It was easy to meet at a park. We are all rope drop people, and the first one to get to the park texts with location. We plan our park days together, and dining. There's never been a problem.

They are FULL beds.

Sink is outside the toilet/bath area with a curtain to pull for privacy.

I've stayed with my adult kids (4 of us total) and done just fine because we only sleep and shower there.

Everyone is different so it really depends on your family.

THAT SAID ... why not let everyone stay where they want and then set up times to meet at parks etc. We do it ALL THE TIME with family. We set a meeting time later morning so if someone sleeps in etc there is no one waiting around.

It depends what people are used to at home too. My partner and I have the exact same sized bed at home as at Pop, so when we go it's no probs for us to share 1 bed. We don't have kids so we use the second bed for bags/storage etc.
As long as everyone knows what to expect then that should hopefully avoid anyone being surprised when you check in.

We moved out of value resorts when my boys were 15 because the double beds are just too small for 2 adult sized people to share. The room is cramped, there's only 1 sink, not double sinks. There's not a chance I would share a value with 4 adults.

One bathroom for four adults would be a bigger issue for me than double beds. For us, two adults in a double bed is not a big deal, and we aren't petite people.

As I mentioned on other threads we will have 4 adults going with us and we plan on staying at All-Star Movies. My husband and I can deal with a double bed together (even with him being 6' 5 1/2 no bed is going to be perfect for him) but the in-laws have already said no way not gonna happen and I don't blame them. I honestly don't know if they would actually fit on the double bed together (and I'm not trying to be insulting to them it's just the truth with their body types). They also snore and ear plugs don't even block out the noise they make :rotfl: They want to try and go for the request of King bed in All-Star Movies; I told them we can request it but it's best not to expect that request being granted. My husband and I will do different room requests and just sleep on the separate double beds.

So we will have 2 rooms instead of 1 room. It is def.way more expensive to go that route (because a standard room would only be $20 more per night-$10 per night per person over 2 adults in the room as PP have already stated). For us it's not the bathroom part it's the bed part (along with the snoring). We've shared 1 bathroom several times before in hotel rooms but there's always been a separate room for one of us couples to stay in thus the snoring/bed issues were avoided. Also the in-laws already stated they may not want to follow our plans to the letter and having their own room allows that flexibility.

Of course not all groups of 4 adults will have a problem sharing double beds like that in 1 one room. Something to keep in mind too that Value resort rooms (not suites just normal rooms) are around 260 square feet. I personally don't have a problem with that size but I've found many people on other places (not here on this board) didn't know the rooms were small and thus felt cramped and with 4 adults in one room you could easily feel that way especially considering people's luggage brought with them. But again that is a personal thing.

You might go over the pros and cons to sharing a room or splitting it into 2 rooms with them. If they can deal with the cons in favor of the pro (saving money) then go for it. I just find it best to be transparent with stuff then let the person(s) make up their own minds what they can deal with.

I would say it really depends on how much they like each other and quite honestly how big they are. I could share a double bed with my mom or my sister but we are all on the petite side. I struggle sharing a double bed with my husband because he's just much bigger.

If you are committed to stating at the resort you could always book a preferred room for your family and they could book a standard room. I echo other posters though and say you should stay at your resort choice. You are spending your family's time and vacation dollars on this trip too, you should plan a vacation that best meets your needs.

We did a "Magical Gathering" back in 2005 and we just all stayed where we wanted to stay and met up at the parks. Frankly, there is such a thing as TOO MUCH togetherness and, in a small place, that can amplify if nobody has any room to stretch out. Of course, that could just be me...

I thought I have read somewhere that there is 6 inches difference between the full beds and the queen beds at WDW.

I would not share a hotel room with anyone who doesn't live in my house. I think I would let each family book the hotel they want to stay in and meet up at the parks in the morning. It is very easy to do at WDW. If you all decide to stay at Pop, I would get 4 rooms, not have 4 adults share a room. We have stayed in the value resorts many times, and we don't mind them, but not with people outside my house.

i think it depends on what size bed they are used to at home.
they are double beds.
if they either don't share beds at home or they are used to sharing bigger beds at home then it might not be big enough for them.
i guess i'd just ask what their opinion is on the matter since they are the ones that have to share the beds not you or i.

i have shared a pop century bed with my sister and with my friend.
personally i'm not a fan because i am used to tossing and turning in my bed at home and there was not enough room to do so.

personally what i would do in this situation is get one room for your aunt and cousin and then another room for your parents but its up to them and how much they are willing to spend.

btw i never pay for preferred room at POP because unless you are in the farthest rooms in the 80's section its not a long walk at all the way the buildings are set up.
i like to get a standard room and request the 50's section.
i also would not pay for pool view or preferred pool view because it can become very loud at times.
