I have been reading the posts lately and alot of people have been stating that it would be too cold in January to swim.....I really don't care about swimming, but my husband and I were hoping to hang out by the pool(we're staying at POR) with the kids while they swim and we can have a couple of drinks. Does anyone have a positive pool stories during their January stay???

Thanks!

Some pools are heated and are open year round. The quiet pool in the AB section of POR is heated and open. This is why people are talking about going swimming in the winter months.

Last January we were able to go one day to the quiet pool at the BWI. I think the weather can be very unpredictable during that time of year.

We were at the Poly (and cruised afterwards) Jan. 10-18. We were able to swim everyday. We're going a week later in '08 so hope our luck holds.:beach:

We were there at the end of Jan. into Feb. several years ago and our kids were swimming daily. The weather is hard to predict at that time of year. Also, we are from a colder climate so the weather seems tropical to us and cool to those who are used to much warmer weather.

We've gone twice in Jan ('05 and '06) and went swimming quite a bit each time. I think it's pretty variable...

This past January we swam one late afternoon and it was very nice! Out of the whole week we probably could have swam 3 days. The water was nice too, not cold at all!

Well, mine wasn't in January, but it was close..first week of Feb.

We did go to the pool one day and had a wonderful time. It was at POFQ and the weather was about 77 degrees. It was a lovely sunny day, and the pool water was nice and warm. Also, the pool was virtually empty!!!! We did not have time to go again during the day, so it was only the one day that we got to go. It was chilly during the nights, so we didn't bother.

About three years ago we stayed at CBR the second week of Feb. and we did get to swim one evening and for awhile once during the day. Again, the weather was good and the water warm.

We'll be going for our 4th January in 08 and we have always used the pool and ALL of the WDW pools are heated. ALL. We come from New England and if it's above 65 it's warm enough to swim in a heated pool! I don't think we'd ever go another month.

I'm not a poll expert.
last years me and the family stayed at AS sports in December.
It was pretty cold but we went to the pool anyway and we really enjoyed it!!!!
Imena....we were at Disney....A freezing temperature would not keep us from doing everything we wanted and enjoyng The World at its best!!!

We just returned and the water in the pools was quite cold. And this was when the afternoons were 80 degrees although the nights were cool. We were at AS Sports, CBR, and Blizzard Beach and they were all pretty cold, especially BB. I don't remember the pools being so cold in the past. I think Disney is not heating their pools as warm. I've never been in heated pools that were as cold as those. I wish I could tell you that you will be able to swim in January, but based on my experience last week, I wouldn't bet on it.

We went swimming at POR in Jan 99. We have since gone down in Feb 04, Jan 05 & Jan 06 and swam every year in the pool. They were warmish, but we are usually coming from 30's& 40's in NJ to 70's in FL. I would have said based on our prior years that you had a good shot. However, we came down at the end or Sept/early Oct this year and the pool at Boardwalk Inn was COLD :scared1: So as stated above Disney may have turned down the heat on the pools. I would pack for warm weather including bathing suits but remember it can get cold also. We actually find January the toughest to pack for because we have to pack a weeks worth of summer clothes and a weeks worth of winter/fall clothes.

We were there in Jan. 07, during the 30 degree weather....but we still were able to swim a couple of times at POR. The weather seemed to change moment by moment...freezing...hot...rainy. If you are flexible you ought to be able to get in the water at some point, but you probably can't plan when.
