Ok, now that we joined DVC we have all of these Developer points to use. We were thinking of a trip in Jan 08. In general, is it too cold to use the pools during this time of year? How about the water parks? What about Storm Along Bay? This is not a show stopper for us. Just curious.

I think it is going to depend on which part of the country you're coming from more than the pools and weather in Orlando. We're from WI and think the pools in December are fine for swimming. I know there are people who think it has to be at least 80 degrees outside though before they'll take off their parkas much less go swimming.

If you're from the north, you'll probably be able to swim at least part of the time in January.

We've been numerous times in January and wouldn't you know that the one time we didn't pack bathing suits, it was 80 degrees!

We have had 40 degree weather and 80 degree weather. We have only gone swimming once and at the time, the pools were heated to a higher temperature. They felt great, but it was a little chilly getting out.

I think it really depends on the weather. I think it's great wearing capris in January and I'm fine with that.

Good luck!

They superheat the water at the water parks. We went on New Year's Day a couple years ago and TL was empty. It was about 65 degrees out, but the water was 90-95 degrees. It was glorious while you were in the water and the sun was warm enough when you weren't. It was the pavement that was cold.

We went end of Jan last year and it was fine for swimming - the kids swam almost every day. But heck we are Canadian so it is just fine for us ;)

We've been going every Christmas and we dont do the parks at all. We swim and go to Disney Quest and visit the waterparks.

The pools and waterparks are heated and empty!:goodvibes

NYE, SSR even throws a party at the Congress Park Pool and they had a pool full at 11pm!

We went in January once and went swimming everyday and to a water park. (This was many years ago as we went to River Country which no longer exists) I remeber that it was really hot out and we wore shorts the whole time. I guess it is hit or miss with the weather.

This is a malicious slander ( !) on the wonderful people of the GREAT state of Florida. We do not (repeat DO NOT!) wear parkas when it is 80 degrees outside.

(Sure, we layer clothing, and if there's any wind, we'll probably wear a down vest -- but we don't wear PARKA's!)

We don't put the parkas on until the temps plunge into the low 70's.

I too was worried about this but we went this last January and it was very nice out. We left ice and snow storms in Oregon and got high 70's. We swam at least once a day. SO NICE. I hated leaving Florida sun.

Be prepared for anything from 55 - 75 degrees... in the same week.

We have been January visitors for many years now. Last MLK week we spent probably 6 out of 8 days by the pool.

I don't even want to think about how much we have invested in sweatshirts from years past.

It's a toss up.

We never miss a day in the pools when we are in Disney in Jan.

Even when the lifeguards are in their coats, mitts, hats, and warm pants
its easy pick out the Canadians...the only ones in the pool :rotfl2:

Hey, I'm sure there must be a Wisconsinite or two in there with you! :lmao:

We've been swimming both times we've gone in January. It was not warm enough to swim every day of the trip, but it was warm enough a couple of days. We've also visited a water park in January. Due to refurbishment there is usually only one water park open in January

We have also visited BB in January....oh that water was cold.
We had fun, but didn't stay but about 2 hours.

We went to Disney in 2006 from Sunday January 8 - Saturday January 14. It was usually a little chilly early in the morning and again later at night. But it was definitely warm enough to go in the pool everyday during the middle of the day (except for Saturday which is the only day we needed our sweatshirts). I think it was high 70's most of the week and one day was even in the 80's.

You know, I think I was born and raised in the wrong state. DH and the girls at the office laugh at me but I need it to be at least 80 degrees to even consider shorts here.
