Pool Hopping

I'm sure that the resorts look at opening their pool to non-guests as a way to do a little pr and maybe encourage people to stay at their resort on future visits to Disney. I don't really see what the big deal is. All the hotels we are discussing are owned by the same company, so all the money is going in the same pocket. If you have been given permission by a CM, it would stand to reason that there is enough room for everybody at the pool.

Anne

It must according to some people. I will never get over the attitudes of those that think they should get whatever they want without paying. Sorry but I'm paying for my family to enjoy that magic and I'm not sharing it with ones that do not pay! If you want to enjoy the amenities of the resort such as the pool OR beach then pay to do so. I'm glad I go during down season as it would drive me crazy to have to put up with people that do not belong there. On our last trip to the Poly in May we were sitting on the beach waiting to watch the fireworks. A group of about 10 came over and started confiscating all the lounge chairs they could find to sit their butts on. They were a big mouth group and the one lady went on and on about reading in Birnbaums that the Poly was a great place to view the fireworks. Her hubbie was certainly proud of his freeloading wife and went on and on about how they were staying on International Drive and on and on about his little sweetie. Meanwhile one of the other so called men in the group stood directly in front of my mom's lounger so close that his calf was touching her toes! LOL! I mean the beach was wide open and there was so much room that hundreds could have fit. I think he was trying to annoy my mother to leave as they were carrying on about needing another lounger for thier group and hers was right next to theirs. My mother asked him to please move over as he was touching her feet and he said that the fireworks hadn't started yet so she wasn't missing anything! What a total moron this guy was. so I proceeded to tell him that the beach was for Poly guests only and when that didn't get him off my mother's toes I found a CM that asked them to leave the beach as it is for Poly guests only. Gotta love those CMs! And I'd do it again in a hearbeat so flame away people! LOL!!:Pinkbounc

we have another winner!

just wondering...does anyone know where to order the self-appointed disneey police badges?

I think they are right next to the "I don't have to follow the rules 'cause I'm special" buttons.

nice one! make sure all of the WDW cast members get one of those, though...because they're the ones who actually want people to enjoy their vacations...

Another pool-hopping thread?!

DS is currently a lifeguard at SAB. He has indicated that they have been vert strict in the past few weeks about non guests. They have recreation castmembers at the entrances of the pool. If you want to walk around that is fine. To swim you show a resort id that has a code on the strip that tells which resort you are staying at. You are then given a wrist band as mentioned previously. Each person must show key!

My answer is you probably will not have any luck, even asking, right now.

At least at SAB.

Have to agree with Skiwee. As to the all the money going to the same company, that is true. However the amount of money is not the same for someone staying at the Polynesian versus the All Star. There is a reason those rooms are so expensive.

If they want me to enjoy my vacation they will enforce the no swimming unless you pay to stay here rule and same for parking lots.

I guess the hard thing is deciding who they want to enjoy their vacations? Those that pay for this deluxe resort, or those that visit it for free?

I've always wondered what would happen when entitlement mentality collides with Disney magic. Now i know! :earseek:

Let me know if you find a place because I'd like to order a bunch of "I'm entitled to anything I want and who's going to stop me" badges.

From a business standpoint I'd much rather keep people who pay to stay at a deluxe resort, eat in high-end restaurants, and take multiple trips a year over people who come every four years, stay on a code at a value or off-site, bring in a cooler and buy groceries off site, eat one fast food meal a day in the parks, bring in all their own snacks, and buy their park tickets on E-Bay.

Flame away. Anyone who took Economics 101 will have to agree. Ten people who spend $200 each a day are a better deal for the business than 20 who spend $100 each a day. You make the same amount of money in income, but you have a lower overhead.

I've said it before, Disney is not a charity. People should expect to get what they pay for. If they are willing to pay, they should be able to expect a higher level of services and amenities. Not everyone can afford everything they want. That's a fact of life. Some people just need to accept that fact and move on. The GIMMEE mentality ahs gotten out of control.

Not to mention the entitlement mentality. :earseek: I am sure Disney is pleased to know that the "haves" and "have nots" are alive and well in their resorts. It would have made Walt proud.

When people pay for a resort they expect the right to enjoy certain amenities. When people who are not staying at that resort infringe on the rights of those paying guests, it's certainly within the guests rights to be upset by the situation.

I'd like to know where you stay when you visit WDW?

It it Disney-owned property and if Disney employees decide to allow non-resort guests to use the amenities, there should be no problem. The CMs are quite capable of determining whether the resort's amenties have or are reaching capacity. As I said before, Disney does not create rules to be handcuffs on their employees, as much as some people would like them to be.

Why does where I stay make any difference?

You're a little late on this one, duckie...Deb & Bill's was much funnier. What you ought to go for is th "pointlessly pedantic" medallion.

I figure I'll tell everyone asking about pool hopping that they are free to hop to whichever resort you're staying at.

Anne

And where are the statistics that show that these type of guests are the ones who are requesting to swim at a resort that they aren't guests of?

These threads are so predictable! It usually takes a few pages, but in the end the real reason for the complaints about pool hopping float to the surface. It has nothing to do with crowded pools or not being able to find a chair to sit in. It has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that some people thrive on impressing other people with how much they have, what they can afford and how much better they are than other people.

Get over it and move on. WDW allows their guests to pool hop at their discretion. They don't advertise it, but they do and they do it often. If you stay at WDW and you'd like to try another resort pool, ASK. Chances are you will be told yes. A bitter fact for some to swallow, but a fact none the less.

Ten people who spend $200 each a day are a better deal for the business than 20 who spend $100 each a day.

Brilliant economic analysis...I guess that explains why the last few resorts WDW built were value resorts.....you know the ones where "THOSE" people that bring ice chests and buy their tickets on Ebay stay????
