Pool Chair Question

The problem is people are putting their towels down - heading to the park until after lunch then expect to use those chairs, after being away for 4 to 6 hours - in that 4 to 6 hours - how many other people wanted to use those chairs that is right by the pool so they could see their kids & make they are safe.

you being in the pool - I understand but those at the park??

If you read my post carefully, you will see that I agree with you. All I was saying is that there are vacation resorts where it is accepted practice to save a chair all day with just a towel.

If there are just towels and no other items near or on the chairs then yes I move them. Same thing goes for tables by the pool bar, you usually see a ton of chairs around one table and no chairs by others...if there is no one there or nothing around them I grab chairs and move them to where I want to sit.

Problem here is you are just as bad as the people expecting to reserve a chair while they are not there, you are just the other end of the spectrum. I can promise you if you take any of my chairs while I'm in the pool, I won't be very pleasant while I'm taking them back.

How are multiple chairs with no one in them "yours" while you are in the pool?

If there are just towels, most people will move them. If there are personal items, I would never move them. I think that is going too far. Common sense is that pool chairs are meant to be used and shared.

Really worth getting upset over? If it is just a resort towel and no other belongings?

Just be polite. Say "I'm sorry, but we were using that chair, can you please find another one?". Canadians I know are very polite.

You are right. I knew I should have steered clear of this thread. I'm one of the most polite and respectful people you will ever meet. However sometimes when I don't feel that respect is being returned I can be unpleasant.

The problem with communicating online is that you can't always get a feel for how a message is ment and who you are speaking to. How I read that post was that a very self-entitled person with little respect for other people's personal space was just going to take whatever chairs weren't nailed down and it's too bad for everyone else. If that is the way the message was mention then I stand by my response. If I misinterpreted how the message was mention than I apologize.

I'm really big on respecting people, their personal space, and using common sense. Haver you ever been walking down a hallway or walkway and there a group of people having a conversation while completely blocking the path? They see you coming, but still don't get out of the way? You walk right up to them and when you say excuse me, they look at you like you are doing something wrong by wanting to get by? Common sense would dictate that they are blocking the path and should move out of the way and you really shouldn't have to ask them to move, but I see stuff like this all the time. I just don't get it.

Very good post. You seem very respectful online. In today's society we are bombarded with occasions of being treated rudely and it is very easy to have a short temper.

The pool question is a tough nut to crack. Hopefully more people can be like you and try to see the big picture. :)

Good grief it's a pool chair, honestly I would hate to see some of you deal with something worth getting upset over.

Makes no difference what policy is anywhere other than Disney.

If you ask any lifeguard at Disney they will tell you if there are no personal items on the chair and just a towel, go right ahead and use it. In fact they will be glad to remove said towel for you.

"Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you - not because they are nice, but because you are".

This reminds me of the situation at quick service locations in the theme parks. At some of them, you are not allowed to hold a table while one person in your party is getting food. You must have food, if you are sitting at a table.

When that change was implemented, it was difficult for me to adjust. It makes me uncomfortable, and I worry that I will not have a table when I do walk out with a tray of food. But you know, even with all of the hassle, I agree with Disney's decision.

Here's another example: I am a teacher and have my own classroom, but some teachers in my school are floaters. During planning times, these floaters are often scheduled to have students in someone else's classroom. It always amazes me that the teachers are so territorial over their classrooms. I always figure that the room belongs to the students and the tax payers. Therefore, it belongs every bit as much to the floater teachers, as it does to me. Very few teachers feel like me though, and it makes me feel sad for the floater teachers. They have a really rough time.

Why can't people share the chairs at the pools at Disney? Do the chairs really belong to you just because you sat in them first that day? Just because you claim them with a personal belonging? While you are in the pool for 20 minutes, or grabbing a cigarette for 20 minutes, or refilling your mug for 20 minutes, another family could have 20 minutes of comfort. Would it hurt you that much to share it? Most people do not camp out in the chairs for hours at a stretch. Why can't you look for another chair if your chair is gone when you return? What is the big deal? I really don't understand.

Personally, I think that if you leave personal items on a chair while swimming it's a pretty good indication the chair is in use. I know from many visits to Disney Resorts that a large number of guests do not return their towels to the laundry bins where they initially picked them up. They just leave them for someone else to deal with. Bottom line - many rude, selfish, inconsiderate people. Check out the link to the Trip Advisor Survey:

Peeing in a pool should also be frowned upon...

Is it often difficult to fins a chair poolside? We are staying at WL in a few weeks and some of the reports say it gets pretty crowded (they have a smaller pool than most of the other resorts)
