This reminds me of the situation at quick service locations in the theme parks. At some of them, you are not allowed to hold a table while one person in your party is getting food. You must have food, if you are sitting at a table.
When that change was implemented, it was difficult for me to adjust. It makes me uncomfortable, and I worry that I will not have a table when I do walk out with a tray of food. But you know, even with all of the hassle, I agree with Disney's decision.
Here's another example: I am a teacher and have my own classroom, but some teachers in my school are floaters. During planning times, these floaters are often scheduled to have students in someone else's classroom. It always amazes me that the teachers are so territorial over their classrooms. I always figure that the room belongs to the students and the tax payers. Therefore, it belongs every bit as much to the floater teachers, as it does to me. Very few teachers feel like me though, and it makes me feel sad for the floater teachers. They have a really rough time.
Why can't people share the chairs at the pools at Disney? Do the chairs really belong to you just because you sat in them first that day? Just because you claim them with a personal belonging? While you are in the pool for 20 minutes, or grabbing a cigarette for 20 minutes, or refilling your mug for 20 minutes, another family could have 20 minutes of comfort. Would it hurt you that much to share it? Most people do not camp out in the chairs for hours at a stretch. Why can't you look for another chair if your chair is gone when you return? What is the big deal? I really don't understand.
