my husband & i were enjoying our afternoon at the poly pool this past tues, when a guard suddenly announced "everyone out of the pool" much to our dismay, there were 3 pieces of poo on the bottom of the pool. everyone got out and i don't think anyone else realized what was going on. one man thought there was a lost child & they were looking for him this way. none of the guards said a thing, and the pool managers got the vacuum out & cleaned them up. the pool was back open less than 1 hr afterwords.. does this happen much in the pools? i can only imagine how much it happens at the water parks! in NJ if a pool becomes contaminated, it shuts down for 24hrs so that the pool water can be shocked and cleaned. i was surprised how quickly it opened. just to make sure it was what we thought it was, my husband spoke w/ a guard & he said it happens "all of the time, but usually at the PC or AS resorts" b/c of the higher bather load in these pools. has anyone else experienced this at disney?

no but i saw a lady let her daughter pee in HRH pool

we left and checked in at PBH

Yep. It's mega nasty. The first time we stayed at AKL, the pool closed almost every afternoon for 2-3 hours because of poo. Kind of pitiful that parents with children that aren't potty trained won't take the appropriate precautions. It spoils the afternoon for a lot of people in the resort who plan their day around going to the parks in the morning and swimming in the afternoon.

This happens quite often at the YMCA where I work, only when it happens at the Y we are not allowed to re-open for 24 hours afterward. It is a law in our city I guess.

This happened a few years ago when we stayed at FW. They cleaned the pool & opened it about an hour later.

I also can't imagine why parents wouldn't put a swim diaper on their young children - unless those diapers don't hold "that", although I thought they did!

Although accidents happen, I'm surprised they were able to open the pool in about an hour. The fitness center I belong to also has the 24 hour rule when an accident occurs in the pool. Once the area was vacuumed, did they pour any type of chemicals or just tell everyone to jump back in?

Sorry, all I can think of is Caddyshack. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:teeth:

At least that ended up being a candy bar! :)

I always had the understanding that the pool had to be closed and "shocked" (as previously mentioned) before it could reopen.

Maybe they use a different method of sanitizing the water at the WDW resort pools...I'm hoping!

I don't think I'd be able to swim in that pool again after that!

This has happened to us atleast 7 times at 7 different resorts ( I am not exaggerating!). The first time my son said "Mommy look at that long rock at the bottom of the pool!" Well, stupid mommy proceeds to try to pick rock up with her toes! We have now learned how to identify and avoid the "rocks"!

BTW - I was surfing the net and discovered that Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach filters over 2lbs of feces per day! :scared1:

tiggersmom2,

You need to change the quote in your signature.

"You haven't lived until you've shared your pool with a peice of poo" :teeth:

I've witnessed it twice at WDW hotels. Once at Contemporary and once at AKL. Both times the pools were closed for approximately an hour.

Oh GROSS!!!!!! Nobody needs to know that!!!! :teeth:

Hehe. . .eeeewwwww! Well all I can say is, I'm glad we checked out of the Poly on 4/19, and i can say "It wasn't *my* kids!" ;)

Although my 7 y/o did get banned from the pool for fighting with his brother. That's what I get for leaving them in dad's charge. . .

LOL floridafam!  :rotfl:
You are too funny! Seriously, I just had to educate everyone on the amount of poo at WDW!! Hopefully the chlorine kills all germs!!:sunny:

Obviously it does or we would ALL die from E-Coli at TL and BB!

About the two lbs of poo in the waterparks. . . .all I can say is OMG!!!

We have a waterpark near here in Destin, Florida, and I take my kids there a lot in the summer! I was always griping at the high level of chlorine in the water there, and now I know *why*!!!

Poly 1971 (2?)
Poly 1974
Poly 2004!!!!! :D

We were at the Disneyland Hotel once and they told everyone to get out of the pool because of poo. We were totally freaked when they opened the pool just one hour later!!! We are a "swim team" family and know no pool is supposed to open for 24 hours after a pooping!!!!!!!!

I had totally forgotten about that incident.......... We leave for the Poly and BC in 8 days................I'm going to try to think about something else now....................:scared:
