What is the cost of ponchos in WDW? Are they the same thing you'd get in Walmart? Not sure if we'll need them- wanted an opinion. I've heard that waiting to buy some things in the World can cost extra $$; want to know if that goes for ponchos.:teeth:

I think they are either 6 or 7 dollars each. We purchased some a few years ago and they fold up and fit in our fanny packs. I think they are a better grade than the ones in WalMart, theirs are a bit more flimsy, like a trash bag grade.

I have purchased ponchos for the whole familyat Walmart and have had no problems with reusing them. It is nice to have something other than "WDW yellow".... I have bought both ponchos and raincoats, folded up in a pouch for the DH, kids and myself in various colors, including red and navy.... came in very handy during our last trip when we had one whole day of rain at the MK!!! Easy to spot the family in the sea of yellow!... Maybe the "garbage bag" types are the clear plastic kind of "emergency poncho" that they sell with the camping gear and automotive stuff? I bought mine in women's and children's accessories, near the umbrellas.... Hope this helps..(praying for :sunny: on our next visit so we won't even need the ponchos!).....P

forgot to mention $$.... sorry, but I can't really remember what i paid at Walmart, as it was a few years ago. But I'm sure it wasn't much, as I am very cheap....err'.... I mean FRUGAL!!;)

Just a thought -- if you have small kids, you may want to go ahead and get the Wal-mart ponchos. My best friend brought her three small kids down for our wedding in June. Needless to say, the day after the wedding, it rained for the next week straight. My husband and I thought that the bright yellow Disney ponchos were funny - but my friend had a hard time keeping track of her three little ones in a sea of yellow Mickey ponchos!

FYI - we just checked at Wal-Mart and they were $7 for kids and $8 or $9 for adults (okay, it was Wal-Mart - so it was $6.68 and $8.88 or something) :p

We decided to just hold off and see if it rains. If it does, we'll just buy some there...since the prices are so similar. We will also throw an umbrella in the diaper bag/backpack because, well, I HATE ponchos! LOL

I am praying NO RAIN here too - but, also, if we do buy the ponchos...we've read recently that Disney had heeded our warnings about the anonymous sea of yellow and switched to clear ponchos with Mickey faces on the back.

I've also heard recommendations of moms drawing a little design on the back of the hood so that they can pick their kids out of a crowd. (Stripes, polka dots, etc) with a Sharpie :)

Thanks for all the great responses!! I think I will hold off and buy them at WDW if it turns out I'll need them. We'll be there next week, and I'm crossing my fingers for dry. The cost and quality seem equal based on all your comments. Thanks again- I'm hoping they have gone to clear color. I will be bringing my sharpie to label ziplock bags- great idea to decorate ponchos!

You may want to try your local dollar store. Mine always has them 3 in a pack. I always have 2 packs in our suitcase. But of course last wednesday we were at Universal and our suit case was at OKW. We had to buy them there:D Oh well.

If you go to the camping section at Walmart you can get the cheap plastic ones for $.99 and the nice vinyl ones for $3.99. If you go to Orlando during the wet season they are a must. It rains almost every day.

We had the .99 Wal Mart type for our first trip. One good downpour and I felt like a trash bag was stuck to my skin. We ended up throwing those away and bought the Disney ones. I know they are planning to change the yellow (maybe they have already?) but if not, you can always write or draw something on the back to help recognize your family members.

Oh, and the best perk to the Disney ones is that they will replace torn ponchos free of charge. On our first trip DD was 4 and it rained (poured) every day. We had to replace it twice. Second trip was much drier. :D Hoping for a dry December too!

Disnee Dad Says...............................Go with the cheapies, they work great. Sorry for the family that had a bad time, but our cheap ponchos have always worked, and we toss them as they did thier dollar duty.

I just saw nice vinyl ponchos in Dollar Tree last week (maybe two weeks ago now). They were the same color and quality as the ones at WDW but didn't have Mickey on them.

HI!

If you have a Tuesday Morning store in your town try that. I was just at one today and they had lots of different Disney themed (and Sesame Street) for $2.99.
