Polynesian Resort Adding Bungalows: DVC?

I am surprised no one over here has mentioned this. I had heard this before, but heard they were going to put the Grand Villas out over the water.

Either way, it will be interesting to see if they actually start to build there anytime soon.

Can't imagine the cost for the Bungalows but still cheaper than a flight to the South Pacific. Perhaps.

VGF is only about 1/3 as many units as BLT, AKV is relatively close to selling out, so DVC needs to be building more units, sooner rather than later.

I can only imagine what might crawl out of the water into my bungalow.

And can you see the beach interlopers who watch the fireworks from the Polynesian beach walking out to the bungalow to get a better view (or maybe use the chairs on the "porch"?

I am completely for this!!! I absolutely LOVE LOVE the Polynesian and this would just make it so much easier to get to stay there once a year by having it as my home resort I would guess if they are building these by Tahiti...I wonder if Tahiti will be the "studio" part of the DVC I do agree that something would need to be done to the dock for the "Wishes Viewers" crew....I would be pretty mad to spend that many pts/cash to have a crowded dock/patio. The bungalows make complete sense though, all DVC resorts are just a "building". The only one (IMO) that stands out as unique and different are the Treehouse Villas.

No way they would build Poly DVC at the same time GFv is being built. The two most requested places for DVC are Poly and GFv and Poly is number 1. They will wait until GFv is established before they start building. And then its still a few years away.

At one point in time, BLT, Kidani Village, SSR Treehouse Villas, Grand Californian and Aulani were all under construction simultaneously.

BLT took about 3.5 years to reach the point where it was close enough to "sell out" that DVC was no longer actively marketing it for sale. And it was selling concurrently with SSR, AKV, VGC and Aulani.

VGF is 1/3 of the size of BLT. The other options are Aulani and AKV, the latter of which is over 90% sold now.

As another poster said, construction lead times will likely dictate another startup before the end of the year. Unless DVC begins building another resort soon, by mid 2015 Aulani will be the only resort they have to offer.

But this Poly rumor does strike me as a bit odd. We could spend all day debating the most appropriate location for DVC villas at the Poly, but building ONLY 20 units is pretty much squandering the appeal of that resort. Unless this is just one element of a much larger plan.

Anything can and will happen. The Ft. Wilderness DVC project was much further along than any Poly add-on, and it completely stalled. Building designs were filed with SFWMD in October 2010. Nearly 3 years later...zero progress.

There are just no certainties until vertical construction begins.

I had heard 15 Grand Villas, over the water.

Now will it ever happen, maybe, is it a project that DVC has formulated and developed plans for, definitely.

That sounds lovely, but, can you imagine the decks of those over-the-water GVs during lovebug season? ICK.

We were staying at VWL in May and the boat dock was literally carpeted w/dead love bugs.

Early concept art for what later became the Polynesian resort had rooms out over the water, so this is not an idea that is new to them. However as we know they did not proceed, so who knows whether they will this time or not.

I'd love to see these happen. That would definitely get us back to using our points in FLA again.

For one, would 20 units be economically feasable? How many treehouses are there? Another factor is environmental concerns. And lastly, safety concerns. I guess they could use those woven ropes around all the docks like they do at the transportation docks.

I'm certain Bay Lake isn't going to have the fresh salty air smell of Bora Bora.

I don't know if environmental will kick in for the man made Seven Seas Lagoon.

There are 60 treehouses but they were already existing and just replaced. At least I don't think that any new ones were added.

Tikiman has mentioned just this. He says plans have the bungalows coming off the Tahiti building and suggests that Tahiti and Rapa Nui may house the other DvC units. He did also say there were no plans to start building within the year.
