Polynesian Luau

Hi Everybody! I am wondering if anybody knows exactly how the luau is.

I am getting married next year and I want to have a welcome party for all of my guests. Would I be able to hold it at the luau? Do they serve food,or do any of you have any other suggestions where to hold a welcome part

We went to the luau in December. The trick is to make your reservation as early as possible. They do seating based on reservation order - the earlier you call the better the view.
The food is de-lish and the show is a lot of fun. It's a great package of entertainment - there's a story line that runs throughout, and a wide range of Polynesian dancers - and of course the fire dancer.
As for the food, they start you out with this pineapple bread and a delicious salad that is waiting for you as you are seated. The drinks are enormous and plentiful (and some are served in carved coconut money heads that you can keep) and the main course is essentially a Hawaiian barbecuse, with chicken, ribs, vegetable rices and veggies - and there's plenty for everyone. They're bot shy about bringing our more trays of food.
The dessert is individual kilueau tortes, which are these yummy chocolate pyuramids. The food is great, the entertainment is fun and if you have any kids there, they can come up on stage and dance during one of the parts of the program.
In other words...go.

HI, first off congratulations on your upcoming marriage! Recently there was a post on here regarding the luau. I will paste it here for you to read. I also posted toward the bottom of it. We were not happy with the show and felt we wasted a lot of money for the evening.

I would think maybe Ohana's would be better or even a private room (depending upon how many folks you have coming). I was a gathering once about 6 years ago at the Poly in a private room right off of the main area and it was great! (there were probably 60-70 folks in the room). What about Artist Point, or even the CA grill? Both of those places are great.

I have been to probably 80% of all Disney restaurants over the years and there are so many more better choices than the luau. Also, don't forget there is a wedding board on the Dis also! They post some great info over there.

We thought the show was very lame and the food wasn't any better. I'd take the people to 'Ohana instead.

My family went in August and we thought the food was fair at best (except for the salad, which was good) and the show very lame and except for the native dancing not entertaining. Actually boring and painful in parts. It also has a very assembly line feel for the food delivery and once the show starts and that is very quickly after food arrives there is no time for socializing or talking and when it is over they hussle you right out. If a child gets a kids meal it comes in a Styrofoam container like you get to take home left overs.

I would think for your dinner you would want to have it some where people could talk and socialize.

Just an FYI, ADR's for the luau are now only 180 days in advance.

My family personally likes it. Never been to Ohana for dinner so I can't compare. To each their own. The show starts off kind of slow but gets much better as they start showing the traditional hula dances.

If you've never been to a luau-type show, you'll probably enjoy it. Don't expect great food though.
