Any updates regarding lunch at Kona Cafe? It's hard to believe that the management is thinking of closing it for lunch. I thought it was the most popular sit-down lunch option on the monorail line.

Also: are the old clothing stores on the first floor closing?

I sure hope that Kona doesn't close for lunch. :sad2:

But the clothing stores at the back are already closed. Boutiki has a better selection than I expected though....not all Disney clothes. ;)

Here's another one hoping that the dates hold. We check in on 10/12. :sunny:

Please forgive me if this has been answered.... :confused3 Will Captain Cook's be open in some capacity during the refurb or will it be closed entirely? I will be there 10/13- 10/20 2005. Gotta make sure there will be some type of cheap eats ya know! ;)

I read on another thread that Tokleau is under renovation?

This is not correct, is it?

Any idea if any of the longhouses will be done by mid November beside concierge?

We are thinking of going before Thanksgiving for a few days and want to try the Polynesian but the old rooms really held no appeal for us. We do however really like the look of the new rooms

From the first page....

They were planning on doing Aotearoa longhouse but it looks like they still have not started. At the beginning of the year Rapa Nui was going to be started in January (but was not) and Tahiti was going to be in April (and was not) and even Hawaii was going to be started in June (and was not) so that is why I say that the schedule changes often. With them half way through this year and still don’t have a single longhouse started I would say there is very little chance they will be done next summer. It sounds like they are planning on doing much of the work in the GCH and longhouses after the summer crowds.

hygeniejean-since they seem to be moving Captain Jacks it would make sense that they keep the old one open until they open the new one.

joan1-even if some rooms are complete I would think your chances of getting one would be pretty slim. Before my first stay I didn't think too much of the decor from photos on line but I stayed there because I thought the Poly had the best location for me 6 months pregnant with my 3 1/2 year old. Well I absolutely feel in love with the place. The photos just can't show the relaxed feel of the whole place.

Thanks - I have actually seen the rooms in person and they really didn't do much for me. Since we go to Disney often we do spend time at the resort / our room, enjoy the relaxing part of the vacation

Same with the Contemporary rooms - didn't like them at all in person but love the way the new ones look in the pictures

Sounds like you should try concierge if you like spending time at the resort. :teeth:

Anyone stay in the new Tonga suites yet? I am dying to see any pictures of what they look like now. We just booked to stay in the King Kamehameha next June. I heard there is art work from the Wyland Gallery in the new suites from CM on our trip last week. I hope they're really cool! Now I can't wait until next June!

ZipDdoodah... Can you adopt me? ;) I am only 38 yrs. old. :rotfl2: WOW, I could not imagine staying in the King suite! I hope you have a great time there! I would love to try concierge someday but even that is beyond my means. BOO HOO!!!

If anyone is interested in owning a piece of the Polynesian Resort, mousesurplus.com has the contract to remove all the old furnishings. They are selling certain items via Ebay. My DH & I just purchased an entire room setup for a very affordable price. :cool1:

Minniebowser,
Sure I'll adopt you! I know what you mean about the money. I will be working long hours to pay for the trip, but it's something I've always dreamed of doing. Thankfully I can work at home with no set limit as to what I can earn, so I will be working my butt off. Jump in my suitcase and you can come along with us!! ;)

Try here for the photos:Tonga Suites You can't actually see them today but it says that you should be able to see them at the begining of the month.

I will be posting photos of the suites on my web page soon (been to busy to work on the pages with planning the Maui trip and buying a new truck). I will let you know when they are up.

They did a great job on the suites. I think the King is great but I would never pay over $2000 a night for just the 3 of us. Even the tax on the room was going to be $200 a night.

Aloha

Steve

Have they actually started work on Hawaii yet? I'm thinking of doing poly concierge from Nov 12-19 but I'm not interested in being bumped to another resort. I figure if they have at least started it then it should be done by mid November. Or am I dreaming!!!

Thanks for the info, guys! I guess I will just have to wait until the beginning of the month to see the pictures. A few showed up of the honeymoon suite, which looked very nice from what I saw.

Tikiman,
Thanks! I agree it wouldn't make too much sense for just 3 people to pay that much to stay in the King K. We have 5, and I'm thinking about bringing my niece and nephew on the trip with us, so it will be perfect for us. It's always been a dream I've had to stay in the King K. I also want to stay in the Royal Assante at AK some day. Anyway, I love your site. Thanks for the great wealth of information.

I'm a little nervous now, also. We are booked for GVC in December..........I'm assuming the remodel will definitely be done by then, and there's no chance of being bumped???

We have also bookd GVC in December, surely the Hawaii building will be open by then I am sure they want to get it open as soon as they can. I am hopefully thinking that since Thanksgiving is the week before we are going the Hawaii building will be open because I know the holidays are usually a busy season. :wizard:
