Hi, everyone we are starying at the Polyansian Conceige in Aug. I have a couple of question we have a garden view, but would like to be close to the Lounge (2 kids) that is why which room would be the best for that, also how close are we to the Valcano pool and how far from the GCH. Do we go back to the GCH to get on the the monarail, is it a long walk or can we take the golf carts. Has you can tell I am clueless, but haveing a lot of fun planning this is the family 2nd trip to Disney and our kids are 12 and 14 last year was our first time and we stayed at the Movies, this is a big move up for us the reason is becase this will be our last trip for a while so we are going out with a bang. Any and all information would be great.

We stayed at the Polynesian concierge in Aug. 2004. It was wonderful! The lounge is on the second floor. It is a very short walk to the Volcano pool and also to the GCH for the monorail. There is also a wonderful view of Wishes from the beach or the lounge. 'Ohana is a really fun place to eat. There are characters at the breakfast.

Enjoy your planning! You'll have a great time!

We were in room 3533 in Hawaii, which was 2 doors down from the lounge.

Yes, with a view of the garden..and a partial view of the Volcano pool.

Lisa - The golf carts are only used to bring you to the Hawaii Building when you arrive. They are not for transportation back and forth to GCH. It is a very short and beautiful walk from Hawaii to GCH. We love the location. It is close to everything.

But be prepared. Once you stay Poly concierge, it is difficult to stay anywhere else. We tried other resorts after our first trip with the kids five years ago (lagoon view concierge) and we always compared them to the Poly. Finally we went back in January and we were very very happy. My DW did note that next trip we will do the Poly Concierge Lagoon view. She said we did not use our balcony enough because the view wasn't as good. We were so busy that we were barely able to enjoy the resort let alone the balcony. Oh well, it is only money. Have a great trip. Jay

I have read everything that concierge offers, someone tell me if it is worth the money and why?????

I believe the cost is around $120 per night. Do we eat $120 worth of food or get $120 worth of extra services? Probably not, but it is soooo nice to have the convenience of the lounge and staff. Our kids can run down and get their breakfast in the morning without waiting for us to get dressed. Sooo convenient. Plus it is nice to grab some food at the lounge and go out by the pool and relax after a long day at the parks. We usually eat a bigger meal in the afternoon at the parks, so the food offerings at the lounge can make for a nice light dinner. And the desserts are to die for.

No one can tell you if it is "worth it or not". It may be worth it to one person and not to another. We like it for the convenience. We are already spending a lot of money to stay on site at a Deluxe and the added cost is just a little more (at least in comparision). We work hard and this helps us enjoy our vacation even more. JMHO Jay

If you are on a budget and concerned that you are not using your money wisely, then it's not worth it. If you are there to thoroughly enjoy yourself, and worry about the costs when you get home...you'll love the convenience/perks of concierge. That is just my way of looking at it. :coffee:

I used to wonder about if Concierge was worth the money, then I read a post by Steve (Tikiman) about it not too long ago and it made sense.

He basicly compared Concierge service to flying first class on a airplane. You don't buy a first class ticket because of the food alone, you buy it because of the extra service and luxury you get. It's the total package you get that would make it worth while and it adds to the vaction experience. I don't know if I'll ever stay in the Hawaii building and be able to afford concierge service but I can always hope! I wish I could have had it during my first trip to the Poly because I had a lot of questions and could have used the help.

We are one of those families that had the unfortunate experience of staying at the Poly's concierge. Now we have to stay concierge every visit and it is costing us a fortune.

There are a lot of great things about the Poly's concierge. The food is a big bonus, but you'll never eat $100 of food a day. And the lounge is a great place to relax and worth its weight in gold on a rainy day. You also get a great central location (close to the marina, Great Ceremonial House and both pools) and a great staff. But there is something about it that makes you feel special when you stay there. From check in to check out, you get a little extra attention from the concierge. And that more than anything else is what keeps us coming back.

One more thing. There are no balconies on the second floor of the Hawaii Longhouse (that is the case at many of the Poly's longhouses). So if you want a balcony, you have to request a room on the third floor (since first floors have patios). Here's the problem, half the third floor is smoking optional. That means there are very few balconies at the Hawaii that are non-smoking. On our last trip, we drew one of the smoking optional rooms. The CM told us that it had a great view and didn't smell like smoke. She also said we could right back down if we didn't like and get a different room. She was right. I have a very sensative nose and did not detect even the hint of smoke.

OK, I meant two more things. When are you going? We are going to be there the last week of August (26-31).

Thanks for everyone's input about concierge. Smoking is a big thing for us. I hate the smell of smoke and two of my children have asthma. It is very unfortunate that Poly even has "smoking optional" rooms. I still can't decide about concierge. Right now we are booked for a garden view (I requested figi) from August 16-24.

Lisa, the Polynesian just isn't that big. It is a two minute walk from Hawaii to the GCH where one boards the monorail...no need for a ride. Hawaii itself is not that large so I wouldn't worry about being very close to the lounge especially with older children.

To us Hawaii is an occasional fun splurge. If you will at all be concerned about recouping the extra cost, I would advise booking a gardenview room. The entire reort is beautiful and for the difference in price, you can have a nice table service and/or room service meal for your family each day. I really would try that first and then decide on a future trip if you want the extra expense of concierge.

Thank you for all of your responses, we are not worried about the cost we had decieded last year that we were going to stary Poly Concerige, and we are staying Aug 5-12. Since this is our last trip for a year or two my husband wanted to stay here and the kids can not wait we will hopefully get a balcone on the 3rd floor so that we can watch the fireworks one of the nights from our room, he does not have good health and problely won't be able to go back. The reason I ask about the golf carts is becasue on the map that I look at Hawaii look far away, but it is nice to know that it is just a small walk away from everything.

Thank You again

Lisa

Well, in that case have a blast! You will love it! Such a perfect location, great CMs in Hawaii and Chef Dick's food. Ah, I miss it!

Good luck to your husband as well.
