POLY vs SOG

I've stayed at SOG about 8 or 9 times. During the renovation we used the Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge. This week my daughters decided, very last minute, to go to Disney during college spring break (March 12-16). I called TODAY and got a room at SOG for $104 a night, or $420 for the 4 night stay. Contrast that to the only Moderate that I could get through Disney for around $950 for 4 nights. I paid for 3 plane tickets with the difference. I certainly don't blame anyone who wants to stay at another WDW resort, but for us its a no brainer!

PS. We always walk to the Poly unless the bus is right outside the door when we are ready to go.

I certainly wouldn't think the Poly is worth all that extra money you'll spend just if it's towels and soap that you are after! The towels at SOG are fine.. nothing lavish, but they do the job. The hotel is BEAUTIFUL, the rooms are HUGE, the staff is very friendly and helpful, the hotel is QUIET, the bus system is GREAT (always on time, and rarely crowded!), and the price can't be beat. If you are looking for a resort that screams, DISNEY, DISNEY, DISNEY, then stay at the POLY... but if you are just looking for an incredible place to stay for your money, I suggest SOG. As one other poster said, by staying at SOG, you are able to save money and use it for other DISNEY things!

I would stay at the poly for the MONORAIL.... period!! I took a 2 and 5 year old and the bus was not small kid friendly(we had to take a bus to MGM) The pool at the poly is zero entry and there is a beach. You can't go wrong with the poly.

We have stayed at SOG numerous times and love it. The rooms are so big and nice. I walked to the Poly with my 4 year old son and he didn't have a problem with the walk to catch the monorail. We did this walk a couple of times and once it was at night, we had no problems at all. I think SOG has a pretty decent size kiddie pool. I love this hotel and have never had any regrets staying there. Plus the last time we used the bus for the first time and it was great.

One more reason to stay at SoG...it's tax-free! That in itself cuts a huge chunk out of your budget.

We are going to WDW for the 1st time in April for 5 days. We have a 2y/o. I have been reading the reviews about both and we are having trouble deciding which would be best. It sounds like SOG has great rooms and is quiet but Poly has "extra" disney items like soap/sunscreen and towels. Can these type of items be purchased at a gift shop? What is disney storytime? Is the character wake-up call worth the extra $ ? If anyone has been to both and can share their experiences, I would appreciate the info.

We just stayed at SOG in January. It was beautiful. Large room, very nice bathroom, very peaceful. If you are eligible it is the best value on property. We walked over to the POLY to catch the monorail when we went to MK. It is less than 1/2 mile walk. We used our rental car for the other parks.

We pick Disney deluxe over SOG every time. We always try for SOG overflow rates, we just got an overflow rate for our May trip, $214 for Poly. We just really like the more "deluxe" feel of the Disney resorts, plus the convenience of transportation at Poly or CR is great.
