Poly Tokelau room renovations?

We have the Poly booked for late November ( requested Tokelau for a quiet location fairly centrally located and within walking distance to TTC for direct monorail to Epcot ) and was wondering whether the rooms have been recently renovated or are going to be. I looked at tikiman's site and I believe he mentioned some work being scheduled to be done to the Foundation this summer but nothing about the rooms.

Were they updated recently and does anyone have any pictures of the rooms renovated or not?

Also does anyone have any specific suggestions for great garden view rooms in that longhouse?

Share your experiences.

Thank you.

Jackie

We stayed there this past September and loved it!! We got room on the end by the lagoon and basically got lagoon view for GF price! It was 3313 I think...maybe not..if you look on Tikiman's website it also has those rooms indicated on the individual longhouse pages.

I don't know about renovations, but I don't know how people are saying it is dark, etc...our room was very light, decorated in beige, lt. browns, and lt. greens.

Have fun!!

We would like to stay here in August but Tikiman's site says it could be in rehab then. I guess we will just have to keep watching these boards ;)

I'm interested in this too...we're going in late sept. Our 1st rqst is samoa, volcano pool side but if we don't get that, we'd like Tokelau. I'm curious about renovations. For example, how long do renovations last? 2-3 months? How noisy/messy is it? Obvious or not? Do they usually go over expected finish dates? Tiki's site talks about may-sept, so would you expect it to be done by late sept? Has anyone stayed in a building while it was being renovated? What was your experience?

Actually it says Tokelau was not in need of the foundation rework that the original construction had and they have had soft rehabs in the last few years.

Tokelau is scheduled for work to be done on the rooms in May and last had some work done in summer 2002.

It might make no difference...We just got backed. We booked many months ahead and requested Tokelau, third floor. We followed up by fax the week prior to leaving repeating the request for Tokelau third floor and listed Fiji third floor as second request. When we arrived the check in person had no clue about our requests and could not accomodate either. All ended well, with a nice third floor room at Rapa Nui which we loved (third floor rooms have full balconies).

DisDRw,

I am glad it all worked out but remember faxed requests are not noted and they ask that no requests be sent by fax. Also depending on how the original request was done they may have never gotten it. Many Travel agents do not interface with the Polynesian system well and this information does not make it to them. If you did it through WDW Travel than they may have even forgotten to note it. I am not saying that is what happened but this is usually the reason requests don’t make it to the room assigner at the Polynesian.

Aloha

Thanks for the Reply Tikiman - Your site is awesome. Its the reason I knew enough to request a specific building/floor at all.

I was unaware of the changes regarding faxes - so sending the fax did not help me at all.

I made the original request booking myself, room only, AP rate, directly with with WDW. When I checked in, I asked what happened and they punched around on the computer, and I think they located the request. So I think the request did get there. I guess the dates just didn't work out with the location. They did offer to move us to Tokelau midway thru the stay. We passed on that.

The staff was great, and we liked the room they gave us a lot. With Rapa Nui, walking to the TTC was a breeze. We generally used that as our monorail stop instead of the hotel, since it was closer to our room. And the walk to the Lobby, pools and dock was just a pleasant stroll. Our room looked out on a large mimosa tree, so it was like we were living in a tree house when we looked out the balcony. Very relaxing!

Yes sometimes what you request is just not available. You have the right attitude, you made a request they were not able to give it to you, you took another location and had a great time.

People have to remember they can't remove someone to make an opening. :)

I was told by them that the best way to request is have a good travle agent/planner who contacts the Polynesian and makes sure the request is noted. Also you can call at about the 10 day out mark and request. They assign your room at about the 10 day mark.

I never request a building even when I have gone non-conceirge so I never have to worry about getting my request and as you found out you can still get a great location that you may have never tried.

I understand that room requests are not guaranteed, but I always have my requests noted all the same. Just returned from an unplanned spur of the moment trip and not only requested a specific longhouse but the same room we were assigned in Dec. Never, ever believed we would get it. When we arrived, I never even made mention of our requests. The CM checked us in, gave us our resort map, and when he circled Tokelau, I let out a yeah. When he started writing our room number, I let out a big sqeal. It was the same room we happened to be assigned in Dec. The pixie dust was flying that night! I told him he had to give a kiss to whoever made that possible! It was such an incredible surprise!
