Have people had success with this? We are looking to go May 2016 and think the Poly would be a good fit for our family (we will have a preschooler and a 7 month old). I have tried to check a few times to get a feel and it looks like things book completely up on the first day of the 7 month window but if you get in that morning you should be ok. Does this seem right?

I am not sure if they will still be adding more inventory so that would help us even more. We would prefer Standard over Lake view but open to either.

We will back up at our home resort (1 bedroom standard at BWV).

Edited: I also had the BCV thread below. We are going to save that for when the kids are bigger and we can enjoy more.

Any feel that you may get is meaningless. They are adding another building and what you see today will be different tomorrow.

You probably won't have a problem booking for next May, but no one really knows! We're in the mist of the busy DVC time, so you can't really gauge what's going to happen. I think by mid Jan, we'll see a more realistic pattern for Poly bookings at 7 month for non-busy months.

I am sure we will be happy at BWV but it would be nice to do a monorail resort with the young kids :)

I can tell you that for this oct (but that is a high DVC time) you had to be on right at 8 to snag a room-watched it happen every day leading up to us booling our room-one thing to keep in mind is that by next May construction is supposed to be finished and there will be more poly owners with home priority so even though it is a "lower" DVC time more people may be looking to try the poly

not sure - think the automatic system may have trouble with Polyn - reason - when I was there in May - I was on the third floor and the two rooms below me were empty - there were other empty places too - so not sure - if you can't get anything would try calling MS.

oh the same night was booked solid at OKW - which to me was strange

Other than during 2015, I think getting a VGF studio at 7 months will be harder than getting a studio at the Poly.

I just think the first year or two of a new resort there is huge demand, but VGF has real staying power as there are so few studios vs the Poly.

As the Poly gets sold, there'll be the same problem there as at VGF.

25% of Poly points are Bungalows. I think Bungalows will have boutique demand at the 7 month mark. But most owners at Poly are buying points for studios. It's too expensive to buy bungalow points for routine use.

I think there'll be more points chasing studios at 11 months than there are studios.

It took VGF nearing sellout to see this problem there. Give it three years and the Poly will follow VGF with difficulty booking studios.

Don't think about it as 360 studios, so there'll be plenty of avail. Think about it like this: there will likely be 3.5 million poly points chasing 3 million points worth of studio rooms.

The time to book poly studios at 7 months is over the next few years when there will be periods of mismatches between points sold and points allocated for use.

For what it's worth, I was able to get 5 nights at the Poly (Studio LV) in December at the 7 month window. I had to try 3 days at 8AM before I got through. We are looking forward to it. It will be our first trip as DVC members.

The rooms are there, they just book each day at exactly the 7 month window. There aren't enough Poly owners yet to book up rooms before 7 months. That's why Poly is booked solid at 7 months and wide open after.

That will change with more owners.

In the meantime, my guess is that for the next three years, there will be at least some avail at 7 months.

thanks for all the feedback! Well we will try and if not I am sure a 1 bedroom at Boardwalk will be equally great in a different way. I really have no interest in a studio other than at the Poly if we are staying with kids (since the Poly studios are larger and have the MK / Epcot monorail options).

There will always be buyers who either won't or can't book in the home priority period. There also will always be owners that buy whatever resort is being sold because that's all they think they can do. And guides will tell them they can stay elsewhere especially if they want 1 or 2 bedrooms. I still believe that 360 is a lot of studios and that during much of the year there will be availability at 7 months. I do expect that the last quarter of the year will be the most difficult as it is for the other WDW resorts.

I think the lower point seasons will continue to be very difficult to book. Once you are into May it is not difficult to book DVC and you will probably have more luck booking the Poly.

Agreed.

But combine 25% more points than studios, the fantastic per night cost of the bungalows, the high buyin price at Poly, and catering to an audience that really wants to stay at poly, and I don't think they'll be that much trade out and I think there will be a significant amount of owner pressure on studios before the 7 month mark.

Plus those points trending to studios will be even more so at DVC high times.

Plus, all the other 12 resorts wanting to try it, and those members having a propensity to want to travel during DVC busy season.

You might find some rooms in May, even down the line. When it comes to Oct-Dec, the only difference I see from more owners from now, where rooms are booking up at 8:01 each morning is there not being any rooms at the 7 month mark.

I did use some of my 2014 Poly points to rent a 1BR at BWV when they suddenly came open last week. My MIL coming on our Oct trip made our reservation at Poly unworkable.

But. I only did so because I had an extra year's points and 2/3rds of the points came from other sources.

And. MS is probably tired of me calling to tweak every last reservation to squeeze out and repatriate every Poly point possible.

I can see some trade outs. As a general rule though, Poly points will be used at Poly. They are too expensive to use elsewhere.

Well Tikiman said that there was more DVC to come to the Poly in the future. Probably converting more resort rooms over. May not help much though, with the possible addition of more studios, theres more points for sale as well. There has been some reporting here very recently that while they were at the Poly during the past few weeks, they saw so very few people in and around the bungalows. Maybe there will be more chances for free upgrades with the bungalows.

That's not going to happen. From a studio to a bungalow?

I wouldn't be surprised to see them take another longhouse and convert to all 2br lockoffs (each with 1br and studio option). I do think they listen to feedback when it's overwhelming.

If each longhouse has 144 studios, surely they could create 50 - 2 BR lockoffs.

Off the top of my head, that'd add another million or so points at $165/pt. $165 million in new revenue but more important, it would cause all the other points to sell without needing a discount.

My guess is that such a move would be worth more than $200 million in new points and discount avoidance and replace some of the goodwill that was lost with the Poly conversion.

I'm not sure the other longhouses have rooms the same size as the three they already converted. The three converted to villas were later installations and those were larger. I don't think they could do the same set up for studios at any other building at the Polynesian. They would have to completely gut the building.
