ok we are AKL refugees staying at Poly 7/7 - 7//14. What can you tell me that you love about it!
Also should we bring buckets for the beach? oh we have kids ages 6, 3 and a son whom is turning 1 on the trip!

I've never stayed at trhe Poly but did have a friend stay there once. I visitdand was very impressed with the resort - It should be a blast - have fun.

love the duct tape quote!
anyone know of a site just dedicated to the ins and outs of the poly?

Lori

This is my DREAM resort. Probably because I want to go to Hawaii and will never get there! But it seems so relaxing! It will just be a 4 day trip for hubby and I for our anniversary. But google that site, he has LOTS of info!

Of course bring your buckets, your kids will love it!

As for what I love about this resort, not much these days. Most of the charm and authentic island feeling has been lost especially with the last refurbishment. Parrots are gone, tiki bar is gone, many torches replaced by normal lighting, locals sneaking into the pool area overcrowding the pool and making finding a chair an olympic sport. The island is so overgrown in the Seven Seas Lagoon Cinderealla's Castle is no longer a focal point. I could go on and on.....

There was a time this was the only place we would stay...last count was 15 times, now we stay at other WDW deluxe resorts.

The Polynesian is very tranquil with the South Pacific theming. The rooms are larger than the AKL and recently refurbished. DH liked the new flat screen TVs - Go Figure! Here are some things to think abut - the 6 PM torch lighting ceremony, evening electrical water pageant parade, watching Wishes fireworks from the beach, 'Ohanas, Kona Cafe, the friendliest CMs (in our experience). The monorail is great. You can get to the MK, GF, and the CR from the Polynesian via monorail. Depending on which longhouse you are staying in, the Ticket and Transporation Center is a 5-10 minute walk where you can get the monorail to Epcot and bypass the bus. We visit the Polynesian at least once per year, usually in the height of the busy summer season, once over Easter. While I do not doubt posters regarding pool hoppers and overcrowding of the pool, we have not personally experienced this. We go to the parks in the AM and head to the pool around 1 PM. Does it get crowded? Sometimes - but we have always been able to find chairs, unlike our experiences at SAB at the YC/BC. The kids will love the Volcano pool. If you have GV and want to be close to the pool and GCH, I woud request the Somoa longhouse. Also check out the activities in the GCH. They have hula dancing lessons and crafts. The Polynsesian has the highest % of original CMs still working there. I'm sure others have more to add. The Polynesian was our favorite resort before joining DVC which is why we still try to stay there at least once a year. You will have a wonderful trip!!!

The Poly is wonderful! The rooms are plenty big enough, my kids LOVE to play on the beach. We spent all afternoon on the beach, I layed on a lounge while my kids just played! We have AWESOME memories of the Poly , glad you found tikiman's site, it is great!!!!!!

It was one of the few resorts where I was actually glad the rooms weren't connected to the central building! Just walking the paths to get to Samoa, was a treat.

They started cutting back plants while we were there a few weeks ago, and it didn't look so lush after that, but it's still a gorgeous resort. My stay wasn't perfect, but it was darn close.

I looked so forward to getting a tropical drink at the Tambu Lounge, or at the pool bar, and just sitting there soaking it all in. :thumbsup2

Sorry I don't mean to take over the thread but does the Poly sell beach toys? We're going in October and not sure I could pack a pail/shovel,etc. Thanks for any info.

Yes they do...they also have packs with 4 water balls that are great for the beach & then bring them home for the pool.

oh, yeah do they sell pool toys that would be great info also!

Thanks everyone it has been helpful!

I agree with Disneyhappy and caralovesthepoly, we just returned from a stay at the Poly June 11-15, and it was a wonderful visit. I think you're family will enjoy the Poly:thumbsup2

I agree with everything that Disneyhappy said. We stayed there 2 years ago. The rooms are huge! The convenience of the monorail and being close to the TTC can not be overstated. We had a 5 or 10 minute walk to the Epcot monorail. The atmosphere is wonderful.

My DD9 loved the VOLCANO SLIDE. A perfect size for the smaller kids.

YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME!

We will be staying at AKL on Tuesday 6/26, but we weren't called by Disney, asking us to switch. If we had, I would have gladly switched to POLY. We called yesterday, and they offered GF for $1100 more. BLECH.

One of the things that I love about the Poly: The best coffee in WDW can be found in the coffee bar outside Kona Cafe..for us coffee lovers that alone is reason to stay at the Poly:rotfl: :rotfl: :surfweb:

We had kids in a similar age range and they loved it. Do bring the beach toys. The easy access to MK is great for kids that age and ours loved watching the fireworks and parade on the lagoon.

Glad you found additional information on the Polynesian before my original post was deleted by the moderator(who offered "I've never stayed there" :rolleyes1) I knew that I could not post the web adress but did not know we couldn't offer tips on finding info on other internet sites. My bad!

Have a wonderful trip to the Polynesian! It is quintessential Disney.

ALOHA!
