Poly problems

wow..i really didn't know that so many other people were having the same issues as we were..i was afraid i was overreacting, but it doesn't seem that way!

I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience! I just got back yesterday and we had no problems. We were in Rapa Nui and had great mousekeeping--we even had a couple of towel animals. I did see a couple of cups left on the beach late one night, but that was all. Maybe I only saw it after they had cleaned. We also did the 'Ohana breakfast and loved it! Everything has been so crowded, though, like a previous poster said, they seem to have trouble keeping up with the sheer volume of people and their messes (same way at the parks, the custodial CMs seemed stretched very thin and can't keep everything clean no matter how hard they work).

I am really nervous after reading all this...I just booked a trip for the Poly from the 16th-20th of October. I have paid a lot of money for this vacation, and I will be very disappointed if the place is dirty and run down. I have wanted to stay at this resort since I was a little girl (I'm 37 now). This will be my 15th trip to WDW, and I've never experienced a dirty resort or poor service from a CM. I hope someone will give me some relief!!!

Try not to worry. These issues come up from time to time, but hopefully there won't be a problem for you.

We were at the Poly last month and had a nice, clean room with a great housekeeper (we were in Rapa Nui). We did have some problems with the elevator ... I got to the point where it scared me (LOL) and I'd use the stairs outside the door instead.

The only negatives I can report are that the pool was very crowded *all* the time, and Captain Cook's was a little messier than I expected. There were several times I had to wipe our tables due to them being sticky or gross. But really, I felt like the place was understaffed and the poor CMs could barely keep up with things.

That being said, nothing detracted from our vacation at all. We stil love the Poly best of all, and had a wonderful time. I'm sure you will, too! Think positive! :)

Listen to Amy. You want to know why?

I don't care which resort you pick, you're going to find negative reviews. You know what you'll find more of? People who absolutely love the place! I had some spotty problems, but it will in no way keep me from returning. The resort is still tops with us!

(The WL is still my #1, and you'll hear lots of negative reviews about it too, but look at how many times I've gone back, and I've never had a problem!)

I agree that it's probably an understaffing issue, more than anything else. Now if this was an overwhelming problem, you wouldn't catch me ever booking there again. But I've stayed on site numerous times, and have never had any issues before. I'd say those are some pretty good odds!

Enjoy and have a great time!

Don't worry. It happens at all the resorts from time to time, but it doesn't happen as often as it may seem--it seems that people are more likely to talk about bad service sometimes than the good stuff. I didn't find it "dirty" or "run-down" at all, but then I walked the grounds late at night while the cleaning people were out, so maybe that's why my experience was different. Regardless, don't let it ruin your trip--the Poly can be a really magical place! It is just very busy right now, so perhaps you won't experience that in October when the crowds are less.

A friend of mine and her family just got back from the Poly on Sunday after a 9-day stay, they always stay there, and she said it was her best trip ever. She had no complaints and loved the refurbished rooms.

the rooms were def. pretty, they did a great job with the design. i just hope everyone realizes that i did not start this thread to pick on the Poly or anyone who is going to stay there. I was just inclined to make my own observations public..i think there are alot of factors that led to the feeling i had about the poly..so if you are planning on staying there i hope you have a great time and have clean beaches! :lmao:

We will be there August 18-25. I will be the harried looking man trying to keep track of two rambunctious teenagers and an equally rambunctious wife (OK - I can be pretty rambunctious at times myself). I will try not to leave a mess in the pool area or on the beach....lol.

MA pigletfan,
Thanks for your opinions on the Poly. I've stayed there countless times and never had any problems with mousekeeping or witnessed dirty beaches. However, I'm not naive enough to think that these things don't happen. Either way, it's unfortunate that you had to deal with it and I would definitely make your opinion heard with an email to the resort. Glad you still had a great time!

We will be at the Polynesian next month and it will be our 8th or 9th stay there in 20 years. In all of those visits we've never had a towel animal. Does that keep us from going back? Obviously NOT.

I have noticed alot of dust on the bathroom light fixtures in some of the rooms we've been in (but not much more than in our bathrooms at home:) - our cleaning lady doesn't dust those often either!)

As for trash on the beach, it is sad that some guests are slobs. But on every trip, the maintenance crew has been out every morning raking the beaches.

Captain Cooks has never been any dirtier than any other fast food restaurant I've been in. Again, personal responibility of guests would go along way to everyone enjoying a nice facility.

ALOHA!

I agree! People get messier and messier every year. I think it is part of the whole entitlement mentality. I'm on vacation, so I don't have to clean up after myself. It is sad.:sad2:

PolyPal,
You made some interesting points. I can't speak for the new Captain Cook's since we have not been to WDW since last August before the renovation was completed (any upgrade from the temporary location will be a huge improvement!). Any location may be perceived as "dirty" due to a couple of "dirty" people being in that vicinity right before your party. There is no way for the Poly staff to keep everything immaculate all of the time. Especially with the high volume of visiting guests there temporarily due to the Luau, 'Ohana, Kona, Wishes, EWP, etc.. However, it's simply unacceptable if MA pigletfan was constantly noticing this condition.

Just got back from a nine day stay about an hour ago. We were in Tokelau and the housekeeping was excellent - best yet for a stay at WDW. We left a tip daily but the housekeeper only took it the first three days.

Captain Cook's is a logistic nightmare. No direction on where to go or how to place an order. The redesign did nothing to improve service. There was always a line at check-out due to all the questions about what's on the dining plan and what is not.

We did notice a lot of guests leaving their messes for someone else to clean up. I don't understand that mentality at all. Other than that we had a great stay. For those of you who are booked at the poly, I wouldn't worry.

I must have been drinking something with an umbrella! I didn't realize that many of the hammocks are down and a volleyball court has been built. Now the quiet could be lost by the bang-bang of balls going back and forth. We're stayng LVC in August and if concierge is now a noisy location, I can't see paying for it. Can someone fill me in, please. Thanks, Susan

there was one in back of the tahiti longhouse on the beach when we were there 2 years ago.

Threehearts,

Yes there is now a volleyball net set up on the beach in front on the Hawaii Building. We have stayed twice in that building on the ground level. They clearly removed some hammocks to make room for this. I was very surprised to see one in this location. If I recall right, when we were there on Monday, there is one or two hammocks down by the end of the beach by the hill overlooking the lagoon. Then the only remaining hammocks were next to the walkway to the boat to MK/GF. I think we saw about 4-5 there. There are no hammocks other than that unless we totally missed them. The court appeared to be pretty much in the middle of the Hawaii building on the sand.

I guess I'm in the minority but I didn't have any logistical problems whatsoever ordering at Captain Cook's in December of last year and April of this year. The touch screens were pretty easy to work with (my 7 year old had it down in notime) and we got our food rather quickly. The whole place was spotlessly clean and there were CMs constantly wiping the tables. I am an absolute germ-phobe who keeps hand sanitizer at all times so if I'd seen anything 'unsanitary' at Captain Cooks I would have called it out. It was quite a clean and peaceful place to eat.

Now I've seen some CS places at the Magic Kingdom that looked like the floor after a food fight. :scared1:

Our mousekeeper both times was excellent! Our room was kept very clean and one day she left the TV on and posed my daughter's Minnie and Mickey Mouse as if they were watching Toon Disney. :thumbsup2

Gosh...I am so surprised to hear these things about the Poly. We have not been there for about 9 months (Sept. 06) but it was perfect at that time. We stayed in a room that had its renovations completed that same day. It was clean and shiny and I am a true "hotel snob" when it comes to cleanliness, etc.

Captain Cook's was in temporary quarters by the arcade during our visit b/c its regular location was being refurbished. That was not due to reopen until Oct. so I am stunned that it could be so dirty and disheveled in such a short amount of time.

I sure hope that the problems were just a blip and that they have gotten it all put back together. It is our favorite resort and I recommend it to all our friends.

THanks for the update....
