Poly problems

We were at the Polynesian 2 weeks ago and it was a wonderful experience. We stayed in the Samoa section and our room was very clean.

At first, Captain Cook's confused us. But after that, it was easy. You just touched the screen with what you wanted to order, then you went to the register and paid for it. You were then given a ticket and a beeper that went off when your food was ready. You then got your order and brought it to your table. I must agree that when you are in the line to pay, there was a lot of confusion as to what was covered with the DDP and that caused the lines to be a little long sometimes. I didn't know Captain Cook's was just renovated, I guess it is like someone said about working the kinks out.

Captain Cook's sounds cool. Any other place let you type in your order yourself?

One of the things I've noticed be it the Poly or another resort. People just don't clean-up after themselves.

It's very sad, by mid-day the pool and out-door eating area's are a mess. People just get up and leave everything. I'm an early riser. Up around 4 a.m. The staff are busy cleaning up the mess left behind from the previous day. Towels everywhere, even though there's a towel return. Trash everywhere even though there are lots of trash containers.

The Poly is still my favorite resort, but a very busy resort and vacationers sometimes could care less about leaving their trash behind, I guess they tell themselves "I'm paying big bucks here let the staff do the clean-up"

to all of the people who are worried about the Poly - I would say DON'T WORRY. As others have said you'll get negative reviews about any resort. Just depends on the day. Everyone's experience and perception is different. It sounds like the guests were awful messy during the OP's trip which is ridiculous. To the OP: sorry to hear your stay didn't meet your expectations. I know how that is, it's is SUCH a disappointment. You save for your trip, you look forward to it like crazy and then your expectations aren't met. This happened to us at WL. And CSR.

We've stayed at the Poly twice and both times we were blown away! Great service, mousekeeping was always on top of everything, no trash on the beach. I hope I don't encounter any of that during one of our stays. We go in 31 days but we're staying at the BC this time. Never had any issues there either.

Thanks for the review!!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I was just there last month and it was beautiful. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful with lots of alohas. We are staying again at the end of August and can't wait.

This drives me insane. Come on....it's common courtesy - for your fellow vacationers, for the environment, and for the staff of the Poly! I just really don't understand how people can just walk away from their own trash, leaving it lying by the pool, on the beach, at a CS table, etc. I have to wonder if these people do the same at their own houses? Anyway, sorry to rant, I just have to agree wtih you....people do not clean up after themselves and this definitely contributes to the feeling of the resort being unkempt and dirty.

We'll be there mid-Sept. and I promise to clean up after my family. :thumbsup2 (and probably others too...as my daughter (3.5) often reminds me, it's my "job" as a mom. I guess she's right to an extent  )

We were also at the Poly last month and had a great experience. Mousekeeping was lacking, I will say. Our room was cleaned each day but we did open a 12 pack of batteries in the a.m. (and took 2 with us) and returned to only find 2 in the pack. Never thought to put them in the safe. I was surprised but not furious about it. I kept the possibility open that one of my family members used some and just didn't recall. It could happen.

I did notice that there were a lot of towels lying around but I blame the guests more than the cast members. It must be near impossible to keep up with hundreds of people and what they might leave behind!

Captain Cooks was just fine. It was often crowded and guests were making a mess (especially at the drink station) but I saw several CM's scrambling to clean up all the time. I found the place a bit confusing at first and it's a *bit* slow but I didn't mind the wait.

After all, a bad day at the Poly is better than the best day anywhere else!! :rotfl:

I wouldn't worry about it either. Seems like things have been hit or miss with our last trips at Disney. We've stayed at the Poly and had no problems..we stayed at GF and I thought it was filthy. So it depends I guess.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, the quality at Disney is not the same it was years ago. I have been attributing it to the outsourcing of jobs.

Oh well..we'll keep going back though.

It's become almost everywhere in the US, and it's quite disturbing to me. People think that they are too special to clean up after themselves. Plus there is more and more litter everywhere you go. Very disappointing, and kind of hard to teach your kids the right way to to do things when almost everyone around you is not.

Sad that others are trash leavers. We grew up camping and we were taught it was always your job to not only "pick up your area" after you were done but to also pick up if you saw something lying around while on your journeys. I try to teach my kids the same .They know, if you see some trash lying around ,dont touch it with your bare hands, but pick it up with a tissue or something. I always carry purell so we can clean our hands after such an incident. It is everyones job to keep the environment around you clean. NO ONE is above this.

Not about WDW.. but at my sons baseball games, there is a playground (built with donations)... a nice one at that for a small town. My husband would go to the park about a half hour before the game to clean it. Him and my 8 y/o would park the van in their spot to watch and get out and clean all the garbage up. She said every night they went, there was always crap to pick up. That bothers me.. have some respect for property that is shared by kids! The parents dont really watch their kids at the playground either... so the kids are learning its okay to just toss stuff. Sorry to ramble but this problem is going on everywhere and people just need to take some responsibility! (not pointed towards you guys here... ).

Hi everyone
I just returned from a 7 night stay at the Poly. The trip was great, albeit it was SUPER hot,but hey, its JUNE! Overall we enjoyed the Poly, it was just my BF and I.
We were in Aotearoa room 1201. The view of the monorail was cool, and not loud at all. It was nice being on first floor and so close to the GCH.
However, I have to say I was a bit sad that the service was lacking. I am in no way a high maintenence girl, but if I spend a ton o' money on a hotel I should expect some type of good service. We requested turn down for our stay, and only got it 3 of the 7 nights. Also, the room itself was kind of dingy, and I noticed dust was really built up on the bathroom lights and fixtures..kinda gross. ( Also Captain Cooks was a mess! They really need a better system in there..it was way too convoluted.
Overall the Poly is beautiful and i would visit there, but probably not stay there again anytime soon. Feel free to ask me questions..i am sure i am forgetting some things, that are both positives and negatives...

Didn't read all of this but BINGO!!!! You win the prize.

This is EXACTLY the point that some of us keeping making about the "Deluxe" resorts.... Disney is providing the SAME level of service that it provides at most of it's hotels, but charging you a LOT more....

Personally IMHO the 'location' is not worth the price. I agree with you. If I pay a ton 'o money, I want service and at OTHER hotels in a comparable price range I get it. (Don't believe me, check into the Ritz Orlando for a few nights!)

And don't tell me it's the GUESTS FAULT??? WHAT, I have stayed a Deluxe resorts, when you get up from your pool chair to get in the water if you leave your empty glass sitting there, off it goes.... folks expect that at a deluxe resort, they don't expect to be having to do the same clean up they do at a campground. (I am a Girl Scout, I understand the "leave it cleaner then you found it" policy!)

And the "decline theory" My stay at the GF was well over five years ago. Worst service I have had at ANY hotel except the Comfort Inn in the middle of nowhere LA... so if it's declined it did it years ago!:rotfl2:

My first stay on property was in 1996. I used to mention how amazed I was that after accomodating all of those people you would never see trash in the parks or anything. Coming back from Disney and then going to King's Island here in Ohio made King's Island look like the county fair in comparison.

Our visit to GF was two years ago and it was the worst experience I have had anywhere as well. Of course I got flamed here for giving my trip report at the time, but it is what it is. The main pool was dirty the lobby was dirty, the bathroom in the lobby was unbelievable. I don't care if it was a crowded time etc. Disney knows when they expect large crowds they need to plan for that, just as a restaurant staffs more employees during rush times.

I have never sent a meal back to a Disney restaurant, but this christmas I did at THREE different restaurants. I'm not a food critic by any means, but I do expect my meal to be delivered warm and not so hard I could kill someone with it.

Sure we still go every year, sometimes twice..but I have learned to not expect things to be as perfect as they seemed that first visit in 1996. I will continue to report things to Disney when they are less than perfect.

I had to jump in an add my comments...
We just returned, June 11-15 from a wonderful stay at the Poly.

We were upgraded to concierge at check-in from garden view. the staff was very attentive at every turn, and our room in the Hawaii building #3528 was clean and well cared for. We left our room looking like a small explosion had taken place inside, and mousekeeping did a great job of pushing things around and making the place feel cleaned up.

We left our wedding rings, I-pods, and plenty of easy to pick up things lying around our room and never lost anything, or worried about it's safekeeping.

The grounds were clean, the beaches were swept every morning, and although there are some design flaws with Captain Cooks, we enjoyed the teryaki noodle bowls and most of the clean up there is as stated above, due to the guests. They have CM's cleaning up but as WDWbarb said, it's near impossible to keep up. Dinner at Ohana's was also right at the top of our disney dining experiences for great food and excellent service

We received turn-down service and chocolates, towel animals, and all around excellent customer service:woohoo:
