Poly Overbooked Nov. 5-7 by 150 Rooms??

I'm new at this, so I don't know how to reply to individual messages yet. In any case, I appreciate everyone's comments and hope that none of you receive those calls.

The rate at the BW Concierge is almost equivalent to a 40% AP discount. We're paying exactly the same price.

As far as enjoying the upgrade - we're going to make the best of a bad situation. I don't consider moving in the middle of my vacation an upgrade, especially when we only have five park days. My children and I spent 10 days at the Poly in November of 2001. This is the reason we chose the Poly for our November 2003 trip. My children are now 15 and 17. You can't ask for a better hotel for teenagers who want their independence than the Poly. How lost can they possibly get on a monorail system? My new 8 year old step-daughter will be going with us in November. We've all been talking about the Poly and pouring over pictures on web sites. All of our plans with family for meals and days in the parks have been planned around our stay at the Poly. The BW may look like an upgrade, but once you've set your heart on going to a particular resort and made all of your plans, nothing can make up for a last minute change in resorts. While the BW may be physically closer to some of the parks, it is certainly not anywhere near as convenient as the Poly.

Now that I've had a couple of days to calm down and really think about the situation, I am sure that this is an economic Disney decision. I was told that they are calling people on the list who have confirmed reservations that were made as far back as last October. I understand economics completely, however, I think the decisions Disney makes need to be more human in nature. A lot of people spend a lot of time and tons of money to create magical vacations for themselves and their families. I find it extremely difficult to believe that the same corporation that handles four large theme parks with what seems like effortless precision, can screw up reservations for 150 people in a hotel that only has about 900 rooms. It's absolutely amazing! Disney will never be the same for me.

I think recent economic decisions geared toward increased short term profits will definitely hurt Disney in the long run. Park hours have been cut, staff has been reduced, and more recently, way too many hotel facilities are being "rehabbed" for extended periods of time, creating a shortage of rooms. If the current trend continues, more and more people will be receiving calls like the one I received on Tuesday. People expect MAGIC at Disney. They don't care about economic reality while on a Disney vacation. Considering the cost, they shouldn't have to deal with reality - they're entitled to the MAGIC - they're certainly paying for it.

I have been thinking about this some more... maybe it is better to get the heck out of an overbooked Poly... it will be PACKED.

Obviously the other resorts have rooms still available so there will be more elbow room for guests.

You retreat to your Hotel for some relaxation and peace after a crowded day at the parks... who wants to stay anywhere with 100% occupancy?

>>^..^<<

First, let me just say that this is NOT a good situation whatsoever, and I am really feeling for you. It's difficult to have this planned now and then have someone tell you "oh wait, we goofed, you'll have to move." I for one would be ROYALLY ticked off, if not in tears, particularly if it was a place I really wanted to stay at. :(

To clarify something someone else here said as a "tip" that there are ALWAYS rooms open in case of emergencies- that is not the case!!!! Disney is different from every other company in the world, particularly with hotels- what happens outside Disney does not normally happen inside Disney.

However this happened (someone else mentioned a computer glitch and that sure seems to be the case with this), its rough. When Disney realizes something of this magnitude has occurred they will try and move people to other resorts to fix the issue prior to your arrival. This way, yes you have been really inconvienced BUT once you get here you know where you definetely will be staying, you've been upgraded in most cases, etc.

Now, would you agree that being told prior to your arrival "hey, there's a problem, we're sorry, here's what we'd like to do" is better than being told the exact same thing when you arrive? As someone who has to drop that axe every once in awhile that is the most awful thing I have to do at my job, but sometimes there is no choice in the matter. At least by knowing in advance you've gotten acknowledgement that Disney has goofed big-time, they are aware of it, and they are trying to make a bad situation better before you even get here....hopefully you'll have some time to work through the disappointment (which you rightfully deserve to have) and set yourself up for fun. I would argue its a heck of a lot harder to "shake it off" when you are walked the day of check-in.

I'm not trying to make light of your situation- its bad, no question about it- but at least you know what you are coming into rather than being surprised at check-in.

I am so sorry this has happened to you. I would be crushed if they called me and said I couldn't stay at the Poly. BUT...I think you will like the BW and I've read really nice things about concierge. If I were you I'd call concierge and have them help you make any changes to your priority seatings and maybe have them arrange something special in the room for your DSD to make up for the change. Also I think you will really love concierge service. It is such a wonderful convenience to have breakfast and the all day water and soda is great too. The BW is a nice location-just walk or boat to Epcot/MGM.

Hope you great trip despite the unwanted change.

Did you ask if any rooms were availible at the CR or GF or even the WL. It would make moving much easier or even try to get your whole stay at one of these MK resorts. I only stay at MK resorts for the same reason you mentioned about the monorail. Good Luck

I am amazed by your spirit to make lemonade out of lemons!!

I was reading that you have made dinner ressies to fit around staying at the Poly.

Perhaps you definetly have several PS ressies that you want to keep but maybe a few that you want to change since you are staying in the BW area.l

Since you are staying at concierge I was thinking that you could call or e-mail the BW concierge staff. Make clear that you have been displaced from the Poly and see if the BW concierge staff can help you make ressies/ plan your stay at the BW to pump magic back into your stay.

For those of you who have stayed at the BW concierge please post where our displaced friend can obtain the phone number and/or e-mail address to the BW concierge staff.

Good luck to you!
Renee

I think you will like the Epcot area with children 15 & 17. I have stayed at both the Monorail & the Epcot resorts. The Epcot resorts offer some great perks like:

1) Walk/boat to MGM & EPCOT
2) BW entertainment at night
3) LOTS of rest. to choose from - you can have dinner in a different country each night!
4) Nov park hours usually have Epcot open the lastest at night, so it is great to be close by.

I think you will enjoy it.

I just rec'd the dreaded call! They want us to move from the Poly to the AKL. I was given no other options. Their offer did not include an up-grade of any kind. No savannah view. Not even 40% off rack rates. Irregardless, the AKL is not where I want to be. I planned my trip to WDW planning to stay at the Poly. As mentioned earlier, it was not until we were able to make reservations at our resort of choice that we even considered making airline reservations, car rental plans, etc. These issues seemed irrelevant to the my caller. I suggested he share them with the higher powers at Disney. I am feeling very upset at the moment. Disney definitely did not attempt to spread any magic in my case to try to compensate for an error on their part. And in our eyes, it was an extreme error.

I plan to try for this guys supervisor tomorrow. I'll probably also try the Poly directly. I did not consent for him to make any changes to my reservation. The offer made was unacceptable.

Susiesnowflake... they won't even confirm a savanna view? Holy Dinah!

Stick to your guns.. let us know how it goes tomorrow ~ good luck getting things done to your satisfaction.

>>^..^<<

Do not accept the first offer if it is not one you want...they will improve on it if they have to. I would be ready to tell them what you would consider to be an acceptable alternate placement (i.e., "No thank you, I am not interested in staying at the AKL, however we might be willing to switch to a tower room at the CR" or whatever you think would work for you)...keep speaking to a supervisor until the issue is resolved.

I agree with a previous poster, that while it is hard to think about changing resorts when you have your heart set on a specific place...that place might not be all that pleasant if it is at 100% capacity at a time when parks are closing early and people are spending more hours each day at the resort...the pools, restaurants and common areas will be packed, housekeeping will be stressed to the max, you'd have to take whatever room they assigned you...

I know everyones tastes are different, but I can think of several deluxes that would beat a packed Poly, especially if you can talk them into a prime view or better yet a concierge room

Hang in there...Disney will come through for you yet!!

This thread and the other one disturb me greatly. I'm losing the good Disney magic feeling. All I can do is stop reading these boards. I know that venting will not help. I hope I'm not mistaken, but I fear I may be going to WDW for the last time pretty soon. ::yes::

Although, maybe I'll check back here tomorrow and everything will be just fine! :sunny:

Susie,

I'm sorry to hear about this. Imagine all the people who don't visit these boards, I wonder how many have received "the call".

My sister was not satisfied in the least while dealing with CRO. It wasn't until she called the Poly directly to complain when they informed her there was one woman who was handling the overbooking problem. CRO just told her she had to take BW for nights 2, 3 & 4 of her 6 night trip, moving twice.

I'll give her a call and see if she can e-mail you the woman's name and number.

BTW, what are the dates of your stay and do they want you to move for your entire trip?

steve
28 days 'till Poly check-in (I hope)

I can see how annoying it is to have to pick up and move when you've planned for so long. The Poly is convenient with kids, but the BW has a lot to offer. There is a community hall the teens can use to play arcade games, ping pong, foosball etc. at no charge. They can walk to Epcot and MGM or take the boats.

The Inn concierge is a nice addition to your trip and will save you money on snacks and breakfast. There plenty of action on the BW at night to keep kids entertained. Flying Fish has great food and Seashore sweets is a must do!

My kids love the Poly, but BW has become their favorite! The only pain will be losing your room for the hours it takes to check out of BW and to have your room ready for you at the Poly.

Try to think of it as the best of both worlds. You may end up loving the Boardwalk. I hope you do!

You ought to be compensation for the inconvenience. This may be in the form of additional discounts and/or an upgrade in room level, or even other things like complimentary entrees in restaurants.

Another benefit over and above the preceding is late checkout from the first resort.

Disney hints:
http://members.aol.com/ajaynejr/disney.htm

If you see someone with a plastic fastpass that looks like a Make A Wish ride pass and works like a Universal Front Of The Line Resort Pass, zipping past you in the ride lines, maybe that person was inconvenienced by a resort glitch and that is what WDW gave them to compensate.

ljfkgf-- They should definitely make new PS's for you to accomodate your new itinerary since it was their mistake! Also, they will move your luggage for you so you can leave BW in the morning, go to a park and then return to the Poly later in the day. I would even hope they would give you some sort of special transportation if you wanted it.

For what it's worth, I love staying in the Epcot area and Boardwalk Concierage sounds heavenly!

It sounds to me that the people that they are moving are those that are taking advantage of discounts (AAA or AP discount rates). Are they making people move who pay rack rate?

..what Disney ended up offering to you. However, you still seem to be unhappy . I concur with all the other posters...WDW should offer to compensate you,in some reasonable way, for the inconvenience caused to you. I cannot tell you what that may be (I would gladly accept BWI concierge over Poly at the same rate...have stayed at both and they each have unique delights but CONCIERGE!!!) Is it the hassle of moving that is particularly anathema??? I would continue moving up the chain of management until you find someone that can make you "totally happy" . Good luck

There is absolutely NO WAY I would except AKL as an even switch for the Poly! Has Disney lost their minds??? :earseek: The displaced people should be given the choice of another monorail resort, or if those are all booked then an Epcot resort at a discount. It's Disney's mistake, not the customer.

The nights they were overbooked for were the nights we were paying rack rate. We had AP disc. for the first night and last two nights.

I really think they knew well in advance that they were not going to let out AP discounts like they have in the last few years. They probably figured a lot of people would cancel when they couldn't get their AP discount, so they intentionally overbooked so as not to have empty rooms after the AP mess. I guess it didn't happen the way they thought. After hearing that Susie was bumped from the Poly last November and this November too, it looks to me like they make a habit of this overbooking policy. The not so helpful guy who called me on Tuesday with the bad news tried to create an analogy between their overbooking rooms with the way the airlines overbook flights. Can you imagine? He also told me that the "List" came down from "revenue management" - whoever that is. I do not think that this was a a big computer error. I think it is more a case of Disney getting caught big time in a bad policy about overbooking.

Linda

I think I would have asked "not so helpful guy" when you would receive your voucher for a free vacation. If he used the airline analogy to his advantage, shouldn't the guest get the same benefit that a bumped airline patron would recieve?
Glad to hear things are better for you now. Your deal sounds much better then the other poster. We have stayed at Beach club, and much preferred it to the Poly, just love that location. You are also gaining use of a hot tub that isn't available at the Poly, and the Boardwalk, and all the other resort restaurants in the area. Enjoy your trip!!

Ok, we are booked for Poly Conceirge from 11/5 to 11/12 and I am getting nervous, this is all we have been looking forward to the past week and we told our DD (4) we would stay at the POLY, this is the first time we were able to get it during NJ week and we are so excited. I hope we do not loose that "can't wait to get to Disney feeling" via a phone call.

Please keep us posted any info you get.
