Poly - NO Hot Tub????

Y&BC has a small one in SAB, (small slide and climber more preschool todler age.) WL has one on the beach rather like anyone you can find at a local park. PORS (a mod resort) has a very big complex one on Old Man Island, away from the pool, it is tucked away so if you weren't looking for it you would miss it. OKW has one at the main pool (at least did) and I think it might have a few more scattered around also. Not sure about SSR, but I stay there in 2 months so we will find out.

Not sure about GF, I heard Con has a good one, but I have never seen it. Also not sure about BW.

I guess maybe it is a trade off thing. They put one in if they feel there isn't as much to offer otherwise.

So there is the playground update for anyone who doesn't care because they clicked here because of hot tubs. Sorry for the drift!

AKL might not have boats and such, but it does have the animals and a lot of other great things to look at and do.

Just continuing our side discussion.

The GF does not have a playground. I too am not sure about the CR but I think there is no longer one there either. I didn't count the one at SAB because it is so toddler sized as you said. I have never heard of one nor seen one at BW.

Didn't know about the one at WL. Could it be that the junior deluxes have them?

And I know you are DVCers as are we, but OKW and SSR are not classified as deluxes although we certainly can appreciate the advantages they do offer.

I am glad the Poly doesn't have a hot tub. Generally the hot tubs at the resorts are overrun with screaming out of control kids that don't even belong in them. I wouldn't use a public hot tub anyway and don't see the draw in bathing with hot sweaty strangers. Just doesn't appeal to me! We bought our own hot tub for that reason. I don't see a reason for a playground either. My DD, now 6, has no need for a playground at WDW. She's at the happiest place on earth! Who needs a slide when you have Splash Mountain? LOL! I am really happy that there are those that don't like the Poly. It is very difficult to get in as it is. Another unhappy person leaves a room open for me!

Just want to add my opinions here


When we stayed at the Grand Floridian, one of my DSs and I did use the hot tub a couple of times, later at night, when it was cool out (May 2001). Other than that, I don't really use hot tubs at hotels or resorts, so I don't miss a hot tub while at the Polynesian.

During our stay at the Polynesian last week, I really enjoyed sitting at the "bubbling stream" end of the pool. There is built-in bench seating and strong water jets, and honestly I DID notice that the temp of the water was warmer down that end of the pool, but of course nowhere near at hot as a hot tub would be.

You get an excellent view of the castle from that end of the pool, too

P.S. Regarding the Polynesian not having a traditional playground; All of the kids playing in the sand on the beach, on the swings and hammocks on the beach, and in the kids' water play area, looked like they were having the time of their lives!!

My opinion is, Why take the time to do at WDW what you can do at home?? We use our time doing the things we can't do anywhere else, while at Disney World

BCV23, thanks for the playground world update. I would guess the lack of them has a bit to do with liability and it cost more insurance (or something like that.)

However every other resort on WDW property Deluxe or mod or DVC, has hot tubs (at least one). Mods only have one, many Deluxes have more then one. The only one that doesn't is poly. That in itself makes it rather odd. Only value resorts doesn't.

Not sure about S&D, I belive they do have them.

TiggerCat, what that really nessasary? Really the rules are to protect Disney in the event someone would want to sue them. I belive offcial rule is 12 and above there is no reason that children over 12 would be any more at risk health wise then an adult. I think it would wise to say they need a parent for the comfort of others. I know when we were at SAB at Y&BC I was talking with the life gaurd when my then 4 year old DD wanted to go in one of the hot tubs with me (nearest the kiddy area) to warm up. The lifegaurd said it was fine as long as I was with her and monitored her. She also said they kept that tub cooler for that reason, if you wanted a hotter tub to use one of the others.

Just FYI, there is a playground at the BW. Its behind the kiddie pool, which is next to the Luna Pool.

And a playground is handy with younger children especially toddlers. They often can't be trusted to run around at the parks when not in a stroller, so end up being confined a fair bit even in the parks. Its nice to let them run off some steam without having to worry if they are going to get trampled or run off.

I agree it is really nice for children to be able to play freely. The point about the Polynesian is that most children seem to prefer playing in the sand and the pool rather than a playground. At least that is what I have observed over the years.


But for families whose children prefer playgrounds, there are other options.

I guess I do agree that there is a lot of area to play at Poly with out there being a play stutucre, but having one wouldn't be a bad thing. If you don't wan to use it, don't.

Just to comment on the post about no one under 18 allowed in the hot tubs at disney. I was at WL in Oct and at least one of the hot tub signs stated an age younger than 18 (maybe 12). And I think the ones at the main pool may have had no age limit other than requiring adult supervision up to a certain age (not positive though). Point is - people under 18 are allowed in at least one WL hot tub according to the sign.

You can use the hot tub at the Spa at the Grand. If having a hot tub is a major requirement, then I would simply book a stay at a resort with one.

Exactly my thoughts. Why all the fuss? I personally don't like public hot tubs myself. And DizWacko, I don't think Tikiman meant you any offense at all. I've never known him to be anything but polite.

As I mentioned, you cannot use the GF hot tub at the GF pool. Just incase I was wrong I asked the Polynesian to see if the policy changed and 10 minutes ago I got an answer. You can use the GF Spa hot tub. You cannot use the GF resort pool hot tub.

Thanks for clarifying this Steve. GF Spa... I know it's not free... I wonder how much would it cost. The best bet for us is to book one at WL or any resorts that has hot tubs for winter.. and during summer we can stay at the Polynesian. We wouldn't need a hot tub then. I wouldn't want to book a room at GF... I prefer the Polynesian.

Actually the gf spa hot tub is free. just have to leave your poly resort card and you can use the amenities of the health club, such as work out room, sauna, hottub...

I'm willing to take on the job! As long as you all pay for my trips I will be sure and take notes. LOL! I already have seen the crowds at low and mid season at the Poly. Definitely doable IMO. The theme pool was never made for swimming though. The quiet pool is great for that. I will be at the Poly in high season this June. I will be sure to report how crowded the pool is compared to other seasons. Let's not fight now. We all have our own ideas how crowded something is.

Diz wacko, the Polynesian stays pretty busy most of the time. Also, busy season in the parks doesn't equate to highest occupancy at the deluxe resorts with the exception of Christmas and Easter weeks.

We have stayed at the Polynesian a lot (see my signature) and in all months except August and Sept.. The Volcano pool does get busy but the next day or later in the day it won't be so bad. And as everyone says, if it is too crowded for you, go to the other pool.

Or go to a resort you like better. There are many of us who will keep the Polynesian occupied.

Hmmm, every time I have been to the Poly, as a guest over the years in all seasons, and most recently a DVC owner pool hopping, the Volcano pool has been packed with very few exceptions. It is WAYYYY too crowded for my liking, but I still like the whole ambience of the surrounding area, so I just sit on a chair and relax instead and soak up the atmosphere.

MisterDisney, if you can find a chair it is not as bad as at SAB which is tons bigger with lots more chairs. There are often no chairs to be had over there.

But I agree with you that sitting there is delightful. These days that is what I do as well.
