Poly Expansion Watch

Hope the design ties into the rest of the Village better than that concept art. This will be a great project. I’m too old to care much about new DVC builds but this is super for the younger generation member families. Looking forward to watching it become a ‘reality’ and not just a ‘reflection’.

I personally think the new design looks cool. Looks like a modern spin on the mid century modern Polynesian theme.

Ditto.

However, it does look like Reflections to me too but it is much more cost effective to use a design that has already been rendered and paid for then getting new ones drawn up.

I think younger families will enjoy this look more than an older darker feel but that's just me. I think the Poly and ALK are too dark but I still book there but maybe younger families want something more modern.

I'm excited for it and more rooms. I won't buy more points (would if I could LOL) but will happily try to stay there in the future.

That Poly monorail station is going to be crazy busy, because I don’t see this one getting it’s own monorail station. And the restaurant(s) at Poly2 better be good, because the dining options at Poly now are really crowded and hard to book. This makes me feel like Poly2 will be a separate association.
I can't imagine that the restaurant and/or the monorail decisions will impact whether or not it will be the same condo association. I am with you on the restaurants. . . I currently own at PVB and it is hard to get decent reservations. That said, I would bet that it will be the same association and also that there will be NO new monorail stop. Any takers for the other side of those bets? :)

I think the restaurants are going to be crowded no matter what, because they're popular and easy to get to. Being on the monorail is a double edged sword. Easy transport to and from the resort for guests, but also for non guests coming from the parks.

We just stayed at the Poly DVC (1st time ever at Poly) in Jan. It was fun and although DW says she has do urge to go back, I wouldn't mind trying the new Poly2 expansion. But then I'll probably look at the point charts and decide to be my usual point miser and stay at BWV/BLT/SSR instead and just drop by to smell the new paint. We did the Luau back in 1999 with our kids and we were under whelmed with no desire to repeat. Back then they also held Sunday morning church services in the Luau - that was nice. All in all, I think this is a good change for Poly and the MK resort loop.

Do you really want it to have a monorail stop? It would only be a couple minutes more to walk to the main Poly monorail stop or the GF one, and do you really want the monorail make so many stops so close together on that loop by adding another right there? It'll take even longer for the monorail to get around the whole loop, adding time for everyone.

The new design has a nice modern look to it. Just don't see how it fits with the Poly.
However, the same can be said for the tower they built at Coronado Springs.
If they build this, I feel sorry for those staying at GF. The monorail will be full by the time it gets to them.

As excited as I am to have more room types at my home resort (very, very excited).. I can't help but be a little disappointed at that concept art. It's unambitious to say the least, much like Riviera and the defunct Reflections. Not surprised, either.
Theming is slowing dying at Disney resorts, and sadly, taking the magic with it.

That’s a good point with the monorail, I wonder what their plan is.

Maybe eventually, they'll block off a couple monorails cars from guests boarding at TTC or Poly to leave room for guests boarding at GF. That's what they do now with Epcot-bound Skyliner cabs. They leave occasional cabs empty at the CBR boarding station so guests boarding at Riviera are able to access the Epcot-bound Skyliner.

I imagine it's complicated and expensive to alter the exterior design of Polyflections. I think making it appear a bit more like Aulani's tower would be much more beautiful and fitting to the Poly resort.

totally agree about the double edge sword. sometimes I wish WL was connected to the monorail but sometimes, I'm glad it's not to keep it secluded and somewhat hard to get to.

I can just imagine the views of the Electric Water Pageant that guests will get! I'm such a sucker for that show.
I also wonder if perhaps the entire building will be 1,2, and 3 BRs, no studios. In my experience, DVC Poly studios are not too difficult to get at 7 months now.

Can someone explain the bungalow points problem that's referenced earlier in the thread? and how adding these new units to the existing association (or not) would alleviate it?
we own at the poly and would love to have a 1-bedroom option.

The bungalows command disproportionately large number points away from the studios. If Disney were to reallocate the points chart to evenly balance out between a variety of room types, the points chart could become pretty high for the studios, 1 & 2 BRs. I think that's the concern.

gotcha. those expensive bungalows are subsidizing cheaper stays at the studios. thanks!
