Poly DVC expansion coming 2024!

Yes, the marketing department described what's currently there. You could also look at what it's lacking....it doesn't say "This new development will add to the existing...."
If it was a new property with a new name, wouldn't they want to use the new name in the press release? I wasn't following DVC at the time, I wonder if the original Copper Creek release mentioned the new name

I'm very excited by this. I've been mulling over buying a small VGF contract because I think the value is there with low dues and a nice long contract. But my heart is at the Poly. I hope they get the theming right and don't just put up a generic looking building.

If it was going to be a completely new DVC association a la Copper Creek, then they could have made mention of that pretty easily. They wouldn't even need to name it yet.

There's definitely an implication in that statement in the way they so specifically refer to the existing association.

At the very least, if they're intending to make it a whole new association, then this release is very poorly worded almost to the point of contradiction (wouldn't be the first time they've flubbed a press release, so there's that).

I don't think anyone misses the 8 years. The vast majority of people don't have the kids or the income to do DVC until their 30s, and I don't think any of them care very much that DVC won't last them into their 80s.

Exactly. I have a 2 year old granddaughter. 40+ years is plenty of time for my son to use it until he's 65, my granddaughter to use until she's well into adulthood, and probably for most her kids' childhoods even.

Yes it does (basically).

"Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows currently has 380 Disney Vacation Club villas..."

"Currently has," as in "this number will be different in the future."

Sorry, that's just a stretch to literally read something into it that's not there. You could very well be right, but I don't think the press release gets you there. That's just my opinion.

Wow stretching just a bit there

thats reading what you want I think

So now the naysayer talking points will transition from "They're absolutely NOT going to build anything new, just do cheap cash-grab flips and DLT will be the last new construction for YEARS!" to "Yeah, well, so maybe they ARE going to build new, but it will look like junk".

Got it.

I can't imagine them opening this and saying "sorry current Poly owners, you can't stay here."

Doesn't make sense.

This is my thought honestly - whether resale or direct - seems really silly unless it is an entirely new resort with new check-in / parking / etc.

I'm seeing a lot of Pop Century-stayers complaining that the theming in the concept art doesn't live up to their exacting standards.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the released concept art. I don't think any of the mild criticism in this thread has been unfair.

I never said any of it looks like "junk." But come on. That's a generic looking building. I get it, they probably should put up a generic building, like the Riviera build.

You wouldn't believe that's a Tampa Hyatt? A nice one, not the airport one.
I became a convert when I had a last minute nothing-available-but-Gran-Destino-Tower trip over Labor Day weekend. Yeah, the outside is boring but the lobby in that building is GORGEOUS.

Not to mention the "Well, the point charts will be terrible". I shudder to think about everyone's outrage at the lack of "Resort Studios" when the charts come out...
Ha! I'm on the record as a Resort Studio Appreciator so I claim immunity from that particular line of hypocrisy.

It's concept art, likely prepared by an architect from rough elevation renderings. It has no theming or architectural detail, and I wouldn't expect any. it is just intended to represent the general massing and relationship to siting. The level of theming detail that will eventually be incorporated into the final product will be added much later on.

This is exciting, but I really hope they offer 1 and 2 BR's. If they do, we will definitely be buying some points. We love the Poly but don't want studios, so we've never bought there. If it's just studios (even if it's actual studios - not VG2 style glorified hotel rooms) we will pass. Come on, Mickey let me give you some money!!

Would you remind me pls how VGF2 was managed for current VGF owners? Like only giving them priority to purchase or like they are also owners already of it?

I am very surprised that they announced this so early after launching VGF. I guess the success was enough that Disney felt confident. We were going to reach out to Disney about purchasing VGF today but I was wishing it was Poly instead and have been hemming and hawing the last 48 hours. The Disney Fairy Godmothers granted my wish today very unexpectedly and now we are going to hold off as we didn't need the points immediately.

It doesn't matter to us either way but I would be shocked if this was not part of the existing association. I don't think it is a coincidence that this is happening when it is since it matches the VGF expansion timeline relative to expiration dates. I get what people are saying about it not being a flip and not having resale restrictions (DLT/Riv being the lone resorts in that regard); however, I think being able to sell it for under 50 years is a big perk for them. Also gives them the opportunity to mess with the bungalow point cost as well. I don't think CC and BR are good examples since BR expiration date is significantly sooner. I do think its interesting that the DVC buildings will be on opposite sides of the resort.

As to the look of it, I guess I am less picky than most. That infinity pool in the rendering looks fabulous and I don't know how varied you can really get with a tower. I concede that it looks a lot like Reflections but I also liked Reflections and was disappointed it was canceled. I really like Riviera too so I am not in the majority lol. Overall I am psyched.

Assuming late 2024 date historically when do points go on sale for a new build?
