Does anyone know which buildings are going to be closed for rehab in March/April? We are going there and I am pondering which one to request. :flower:

This is from Deb Wills site

Tonga is closed for rehab and reopens May 10, 2005.

The Rapa Nui Longhouse is scheduled for rehab January 3-April 1, 2005

It is just me or does it seem like the Poly Resort is always gaving a rehab of some kind?

From tikiman's website (This is very current info)...

Rehab Schedule 2005:
Janruary-April Tonga Suites will be closed and guests booked in suites during this time will be relocated.
Rapa Nui will not be renovated during this time, due to contractor availabilty.

April-August (tentative) Tahiti will be renovated

May-September (tentative) Tokelau will have renovation done to the building.

September-December (tentative) Rapa Nui will have renovation

Rapa Nui was rescheduled for possibly September due to issues with contractors. The schedule I have on my web page is the latest that they have told me.

What is going on is not a rehab in the sense that it needs repair. The last few years they had to do some structural and foundation work to eliminate the moisture and clean up the rooms in the older buildings. Now they are redoing the rooms to add new furniture and a new look. Nothing in the room with be the same as it was other than the layout.

I was told they will let me know when the schedule changes again and when I find out I will post it on my pages.

Aloha

We are hoping to stay at the poly this sept 05. It'll be around 9/22 after our disney cruise. Do you think they'll be done w/tokealau by then? Or better to ask for samoa and not take the risk?

Steve (or anyone else), a question...

We have decided to stay at the Poly this June. We had decided to request the Tahiti Longhouse. Then I noticed on your site and on AllEarsNet that Tahiti was scheduled for rehab during the time period we are going.

Question is...Will the entire longhouse be closed during the rehab?

2nd question...What would your recommendation be for a Lagoon View Longhouse if Tahiti is under rehab??

Thanks.

It is my understanding from when I was there and talked to them about the work being done on the rooms that the building would not close entirely. They have done this in the past and one time I even stayed there and they were working on the rooms across from us and we never knew it till they opened the door and I could see they were working inside. The work going on in Tonga right now did close down the whole longhouse but they were doing a little more work than just fixing up the rooms and adding new furniture. Since none of the longhouses have started the work on the rooms for the new decore I don’t know for sure if what they told me was true yet. Things can change but as or now I believe the buildings will remain open as they do a few rooms at a time. When they were doing the test rooms the building stayed open and no one even knew it was going on.

Tahiti and Hawaii do have the best lagoon views but I enjoyed Tuvalu lagoon view and Aotearoa has great lagoon views also. I would pick Tuvalu myself after Tahiti because of the privacy and being able to see more of the lagoon and the Electric Water Pageant.

Steve,

I appreciate the reply. I am so looking forward to staying at the Poly.

I have 3 definite "must haves" for a room:

1. No 1st floor rooms.
2. Room must have a balcony.
3. Room must be non-smoking.

Based on these requirements, would any of the other Longhouses meet our needs?

Thanks again.

Steve,

Any new details on the GCH renovation or completion date? I am taking friends to dinner at the resort during our stay in JUne. I was hoping the resort would be looking its best.

Pozey,

Well Tokelau in my opinion is your best choice because the rooms are larger (not that the other rooms are small) and there are balconies on both upper floors with great garden views. Fiji and Samoa are very popular also but you would be limited to the 3rd floor because of there being no balconies on the second floor. All of these choices are non-smoking. I think if you leave your request as what you have you should be fine. Remember your request may not be met but that is a good start.

Aloha

Steve

Jumboy,

I am not sure how long the GCH will be worked on. I get the feeling it is going to take a little while. Maybe another couple of months. The upper floors where 'Ohana and Kona Cafe are have nothing going on that I know of but by June hopefully this will all be done anyway.

Hey, sorry if this is off topic, but considering the news, I hope the moderators don't mind. I just heard some great news and wanted to Congratulate Tikiman (Steve) and his wife Tara on the birth of their baby boy!! I heard the baby's name is Kai!! I love it!! Congratulations Steve and Tara!! May your family be Blessed, happy, and healthy. Watch out Polynesian, a new Tikiman is here!!! Carolyn :cheer2: :cheer2:

Fantastic news!! Congratulations Tara and Steve and welcome to the world Kai! :bday:

May Kai enjoy many, many happy trips to the Polynesian! :wizard:

We are staying at the Poly April 22-25 and we are probably the only ones who like the Rapa Nui building. We like this building because it is the closest to the TTC which we feel makes transport to MK and Epcot faster. My question is according to Tikimans website (which I love) the Rapa Nui building is undergoing rehab Jan-April 2005, will that building be open? I hope so.

About a month ago I updated the schedule for the rehab to show Rapa Nui being worked on in September. THey had to change the dates. Rapa Nui is not being worked on right now and even if it was the whole building would not close.

Aloha

Steve

Thanks Tikiman and sorry i did not seen your update until I went back I was just reading under each longhouse.
Have a new ? for those Poly lovers out there though..
Okay I have read all about the rehabs, and seen that some of the buildings were just rennovated in 2004 (Rarotonga), what did those rehabs entail on that building just outside or inside also, does that building have the new decor?
Not really concerned about the decor but was just wondering because we love Rapi Nui, but it is defintely dated, the room had a musty ordor and the carpet kinda in bad shape.
Wanted to know which building is the most updated?
We were thinking about requesting Rarotonga or Tokelau did not know which one of those had a "newer/fresher" feeling?

Does anyone have pictures of the newly redecorated rooms yet? Are any done that people have stayed and can report on?

Thanks - happily planning for May 06!

The original longhouses (Aotearoa, Fiji, Tuvalu, Samoa, Niue, Rarotonga and Hawaii) had work done to the foundations, the outside of the longhouses and the rooms to add new materials, wood, carpets, paint, etc. This was not done to Tahiti, Tokelau or Rapa Nui. These changes in the last few years also did not make the rooms look any different. The new rehab being done will change the appearance of the rooms. You can see the rehab schedule and details of the old change and the new change on the link below.

You are right. I forgot to update the rehab date that was on the Rapa Nui page. Thanks for letting me know.

Karolyn,

Other than a few test rooms (which I don't know that they are open to the public) none of the longhouse rooms have been done yet.
