Poll- Your Pet peeves

I am horrible on cruises. I lick all door handles before I touch them. I wear my short shorts at dinner without underwear. I pee in the pool every day because of all of the alcohol that I smuggle from my room to the pool. I love going to the buffets and pick my nose and dispose of my boogers on the serving utensils. Then suck my snot and cough loudly while by the crab legs on the first day? Why? Cuz I can! I love to run up and down in the cabin area of deck 12 again because I can. Elevators? I hit every floor on the way down. And as I do all of these things, I have Dennis Leary's A@&hole song playing on my iPad as I take pictures of peoples faces looking whacked out. I make sure that my daughter is on my shoulders when they have pirate night. I want her to have the ability to watch the show without having to listen to someone darting and stinking up the area

I encourage all people of all sizes to wear what they are comfortable in it's their vacation too! Way too many people who are on this board are sorry to say but stuck up. Because someone does not comform to your way of thinking does not mean that they need to be shunned.

This is my name. I have no reason to make up a screen name to post on a website. If I don't want to talk to you, I won't. I think that my wife would fill her draws if she would see some of this activity that is in this board. I wrote all this down for fun after reading about others pet peeves! It's entertainment for me, it should be entertainment for y'all as well!

too funny I was laughing so hard I was just asked if I am ok!
I am with you.... when my family and I go on a vacation I don't care what your family is doing or not doing I am having fun and I am not going to let anyone be a "JOY KILLER".....
BUT I have to say I am a CHAIR HOGGER but for the chairs that are under the shade! sorry....
and yes my screen name is my name too lol

I don't like hand sanitizer because it dries my skin out so bad. I use it on the ship but at home I use good old soap and water. But...my pet peeve is what I saw on our last cruise. A mother with her son was ahead of us in the buffet line at breakfast. The boy was putting his hands on everything, but what really grossed me out was when he started picking up the brown sugar out of the bowl and playing with it. When the mother finally noticed she just told him to stop. I made sure she heard me when I asked the attendant to replace it since the child's hands had just been all through it. Maybe parents can either watch their kids or have them sit at the table while they dish their food up.

My pet peeve, as a couple others have mentioned previously, is the lack of elevator etiquette. It's a pretty simple concept that even kids can understand if they are taught: if you are waiting to board an elevator and the doors open up, let people get OFF that elevator before you charge your way ONTO that elevator. Please.

It only makes sense doesn't it; let the people get out of the elevator get out so there's room for you to get in?

I've been reading this this morning. I also have to say that I have 2 FB accounts 1 real one for friends and family and 1 phony for playtime

THIS COMMENT! XD :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I can't say for anyone else however I can tell you that it is our room host that puts our trays in the hall, not us. I read somewhere that the room host puts it there and room service comes back around to get it. not sure if that is true but it would explain why they put it there. I certainly have never seen a hosts cart with trays and dishes on it.
all I know for sure is you may be barking up the wrong tree if you think its the people in the rooms who are putting them there but I do agree that it is sometimes annoying.

I agree, I don't think the stateroom hosts are responsible for them. But I do think they need to sweep the hallways and clear them more frequently. We just got off the Fantasy, and the four grandparents needed to be so careful in the hallways and we had a couple of near misses with food trays.

I absolutely LOATHE hand sanitizer. I am all for washing hands and do it frequently, but I refuse to use hand sanitizer. I'm in the camp of "you keep killing everything and pretty soon there won't be anything to protect you!" This sanitize everything (grocery carts, the seats, etc) is getting out of hand, how will your immune system know how to protect you!

Sorry, the microbiologist in me came out!

My pet peeve is the iPAD camera, that thing is HUGE!

:thumbsup2 So agree on both points.

I question whether this whole thread should be posted.
That's my pet peeve.

This thread may entice pet peeve seekers. This thread is fine for advanced sailors. This is not advisivable reading for newbies. All these issues can be debated to death, yet once aboard they are irrelevant IMO. As most are once boarded.

These peeves worry newbies... BTW, no worry newbies. :)

This thread may also only encourage peeves. EEK. We don't need that. lol.
No flames please. Remember the thread, ... pet peeves. lol.

I'm a bit concerned for the newbie reading all this detailed data that generally is not applicaple. Now the newbie will notice irrelevant items/instances that previously they may not have.

Point is, there is a time to sail, a time to plan, and a time to obsess.

There is a lot to say for sailing blind. Some of our most memomarable sails where blind, unplanned, not researchd to death. ... a Visa Moment. ;)

So... I suggest research all you want, but keep an open mind knowing each ship and sailing is different. Each sailing offers a different experince. There is no way to predict the outcome of any sailing reardless of vessel. And I hope all the readers realize this and plan accordingly. That's half the magic.

We had some of our best experiences sailing w/o any research. Point is if you like a surprise, or the unexpected, stop reading these threads. ;)

Having said that, I wish you all a Happy Sailling, and may you have calm seas.

I really appreciate this. Before we went to DW last November I got so worked up over threads just like this, but the trip was amazing. I ran into not one single thing listed on any pet peeve thread. Not even the iPad cameras. My family's DCL will be magical too. pixiedust:

People sitting down on the stairs in the stairwells and not moving out of the way so you can get past them.

YES. Thats annoying for sure.

Chair hogs around the pool are annoying as well. Although to their defense, where else would they put their stuff while theyre swimming? They need more cubby holes around the pool.

Adults that don't make room for children to see the show. I saw this mainly at the pirate show. Not trying to knell down our sit crossed legged so the little ones can see. Reminded me of parade time in the park.

Had one guy with a video camera on a tall tripod standing up front middle the entire time.

We must of been on the same cruise!!!!

There's a difference between piling things chairs while the family is swimming and piling things chairs while the family sleeps in their stateroom or eats somewhere other than while on the lounger or watches a movie in the theater, etc, saving that chair for later.

And there's a difference between piling things on ONE chair while the family uses the pool area vs putting things onto a matching number of chairs to people, especially when there is NO plan for all family members to ever sit down at one time. I know that even in my family of 3 we've never all sat on loungers at one time.

After my initial 3 day cruise, I hadn't developed any cruising pet peeves... However, after my 7 day on the Fantasy I definitely have a few:

-People saving seats in the Walt Disney Theatre. I don't care if they're just going to get snacks, YOU GO WITH THEM, they even made announcements saying not to save seats... People just think they're above the rules!

-Smoking on verandahs. It's not allowed, but some people do it anyway, and it's absolutely disgusting! When one person smokes, they're making it so dozens of others cannot enjoy their verandahs without breathing in their nasty, cancer causing fumes. It's just so inconsiderate.

There was a man smoking on the verandah adjacent to ours' on the Fantasy. He was out there all the time, too - We called guest services to complain at least twice. They had an officer come to our room and apologize to us, but he also said that even though a message was left on the smoking guest's room phone, that they were not able to get in touch with him and that they're unable to knock on a guest's door if they have the privacy tag up (Smokey McSmokerson always had the privacy sign up, the entire cruise). So this guy really never stopped smoking.

I confronted him on the last day of the cruise, while he was smoking on his verandah. I told him that he's not allowed to do that, and he literally started laughing at me. I then asked him "Why do you think you're more important than everyone else?" - he didn't have an answer for me.

Things I do that are others' pet peeves:

-I do not make room for children during the shows. If I'm in the front, I'm in the front because I've been waiting to see this show. I am small myself and I get just as much, if not more, enjoyment out of the shows as the kids do.

-I whisper to my boyfriend during the shows. It's always some sort of comment about the show taking place, if that helps, lol.

Lounge chair savers

Sorry--gotta say and it doesn't apply to all but those who cruise so often they think they own the ship

Rudeness to the staff who work hard to make sure we all have as good a time on board that we can. Somethings are beyond their control. Give 'em break

Mom and a munchkin going for snacks I wouldn't have a problem with. 6 empty chairs and they are all "going to get snacks"? Not buying it and I'd grab a couple seats.

It bugs me even when people are just saving a single seat... I could do that, but I follow the rules and go with my boyfriend when he gets snacks. I also believe that if you give people an inch they'll take a mile, i.e. saving one seat can easily evolve into others thinking all seat saving is okay and saving 2, 3, 4, 5+ seats. :sad2:

I'm sorry, but while there may be a no seat saving rule, I HARDLY believe this means that you both need to surrender your seat if one person gets up to use the restroom or get a drink. I am sure the rule is in place for those saving the row an hour ahead of time, and no one should be annoyed for someone holding their significant other's seat while they've gotten up for a minute. I would not think I would have to leave the theater if my husband had to leave for a minute and lose my seat because of it.

I'm talking about saving seats before the show starts. If you have to use the restroom during the show, that's different than saving a seat while everyone is still filing in and searching for a seat.

Getting a drink and going to the restroom immediately after sitting down, before the show even starts, is just rude. You should have done that before choosing your seat. It says all over the personal navigators that the saving of seats in the Walt Disney Theatre is not allowed. It's not fair to those of us that follow the rules. It's not like I'm going to try to steal a seat someone is saving... But I will think they're rude for doing so, and then I will go about my day.

I guess we disagree. Or I guess we were just rule breakers. Our family would all get to the theater about 30 mins before the show to get seats, but I am sure I got up with my daughter to take her to the bathroom before the show and never even thought to make my husband and other daughter leave to get new seats.
I guess I interpreted it as if I sent my husband down to save seats for our entire party while the rest of us sit at the bar until the show is about to start.

eta- I think the only thing that would bother me on a cruise is if I were around people who were bothered by everything... but even then I could probably let it slide.

God forbid some of us expect people to follow the rules, and are slightly irritated by those who break said explicitly stated rules... Also, clearly you've never had to deal with someone smoking up your verandah. :sad2:
