Well everything seems kind of in the air right now. If it is just an overlay at the HS i wouldn't mind it, but a permanent change :crazy2:. I don't even see how that is really going to fit the park. Maybe Disney needs to figure out that when we say we want new rides we mean new rides not change theming and call it new.

I understand the frustration. I am a child of the 80's and remember reruns of the show and loved it. So naturally I love the ride. With that said trying to get my kids on it....well they are not big fans. They don't get it and there is no real connection to it like there was for me. Unfortunately if it was Guardians they would be all over it. I do see it from a marketing perspective.

Seems like a really really bad idea. I'm sure the fact that the twilight zone brand recognition is pretty much zero for the youngin's is a great motivator to try and 'freshen' up this attraction. But I don't think you can top the creepy 1930's hotel setting. It provides a fantastic canvas to paint a great story/experience on. I just don't know how you can turn GotG into as an immersive and creepy experience. Hoping it stays the twilight zone. Disney not owning the Twilight Zone IP makes me think 'eventually' they'll figure out a way to change the theme.

Haven't we been through this before? I remember when Hannah Montana was the rage and people were convinced that Rock n Roller coaster was going to be changed to that theme. I don't see them messing with the whole old Hollywood theme, but I've been wrong before.

From the pre-show to the attraction itself, it's flawless. I see something new every time I experience it. What idiot would want to mess with that?
Agreed and the ToT movie is one of my favorites. A great movie based on a great ride.

I still can't understand how the collector fits with a drop type ride anyway. I could see something with ant-man maybe, like when he falls through the apartment building. But the collector? Wha?

I think that most here are too young for Twilight Zone but many learn to appreciate it for the classic it is. My college age son understands and has for a while.

Personally I don't even like the idea of an overlay. It seems like a goofy addition to a haunted old-time Hollywood hotel. But then Disney doesn't seem to care much about where they put anything nowadays.

So The Dis is reporting that Tower of Terror will be made over into a Guardians of the Galaxy Theme. What do we think about that? Personally, I think that the Tower of Terror is perfectly themed and that Guardians of the Galaxy deserves its own attraction more in line with what that franchise is all about. You?

Im 49, married and my kids are 18 and 22 and I work and I dont live in a closet. I live in New York. I have no clue what Guardians of the Galaxy even is?? I guess Disney needs to appeal to a younger crowd but I wish they wouldnt change all the classics.

ToT is probably my favourite all-round ride experience in the WD portfolio, and is always my most fanatical recommendation to newgoers. Leave well alone!

FYI - My understanding of this is that this would only apply to DL's version of the ride.

Yeah. I don't know why this is being reported on WDW, because all the rumors have said that it is only DL.

From WDWNT last month

Over the last month, I have heard a lot of people talking about a possible Guardians of the Galaxy overlay for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Supposedly, Disney is looking to opt out of the licensing fees paid for the use of the Twilight Zone franchise in this ride at Disney Parks around the globe, as odd of an overlay as Guardians might sound like for it. Sounds pretty far fetched, right? Well, it isn’t. Actually, it’s all true according to sources.

Before you get too upset, from everything I have heard at this point, this only applies to Disney California Adventure. There are no plans anytime soon to overlay or replace the Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, especially with Disney and Sony working together on a feature film based on the attraction that also ties into the Twilight Zone franchise. Why overlay the California attraction? For a brand new theme park land for DCA – MARVEL Studios.

MARVEL Studios would encompass the last true expansion pad for the park, situated between Hollywood Land and A Bug’s Land. The area would be a natural extension of Hollywood Land, being a “working movie studio”. On the lot, guests could find a series on indoor and outdoor meet and greet experiences, as well as plenty of shopping and dining. One completely new attraction would greet guests according to current rumblings: a launch coaster featuring Captain America, showcasing elaborate show scenes between coaster ride portions. The other attraction would be near one of the two entrances to the new land: a Guardians of the Galaxy-themed overlay of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

With the current budgetary mindset in Disney Parks management right now, this makes a lot of sense. If they want to get MARVEL quickly and in a less costly manner into the California parks, this seems like a good answer. The Tower of Terror in California has never been as beloved or admired as much as the original attraction in Florida, and as long as an attraction of the same style existed, I find it hard to believe that any guests visiting the Disneyland Resort would actually care.

What would a Guardians of the Galaxy overlay for Tower look like? Who knows. I’m assuming there may be some material in the second Guardians of the Galaxy film which may lend itself to this attraction style, but until then, I am absolutely at a loss for how this makes sense. However, I don’t doubt Disney could make it work and make the overlay not feel so forced.

As always, things are subject to change and it sound like all of this is still in the very early design phases right now and very much subject to change. They still have an entire Star Wars-themed land to complete at Disneyland before this sees the light of day, and a lot can change between now and then. However, it certainly sounds like Disney is “hooked on a feeling” when it comes to Guardians of the Galaxy, so I expect to see an attraction based on these films sooner, rather than later.

Fine by me - ToT is a great ride and well themed/decorated, but I never connected with the Twilight Zone piece of it. I've maybe seen 1 episode, on Nick-at-Night at that - and I'm 34, imagine being under 20!

I voted yes. I'm only ok with it so long as WDW's remains. I am a big fan of each park (DL and WDW) having different rides. So this would mean I'm only in favor of this so long as WDW's remains Twilight Zone themed.

I do have to wonder though, Rockin Rollercoaster seems like it would be a much better ride to retheme to Guardians. It has less themeing overall and seems like it would be easier to change.

There was also a Disney movie that came out in 1997 called "Tower of Terror". That's what I saw when I was a kid, not the old episodes.

And apparently another feature film based on the attraction is in the works

Good point.
A great ride is still a great ride, even if you don't have a previous emotional attachment to the back story.

I read on another thread about the excuse of saving money by dropping the Twilight Zone licensing. But they could do that easily without such a drastic and nonsensical retheming . All they have to do is remove the Twilight Zone sign and change the Rod Serling TV portion slightly. Or simply use the backystory from the Tokyo version, which has never been connected to TZ. GOTG just doesn't make sense on Sunset Blvd.

If they want to ruin the TOT in DCA, then fine. But leave DHS alone.

Fair enough. I looked it up on IMDb (never seen or heard of it) and found this piece of trivia - though who knows if its true or coincidence...

Disney used this TV movie to test the waters of turning Disney Parks attractions into movies. What followed was Mission to Mars (2000), The Country Bears (2002), Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), The Haunted Mansion (2003) and others. Only "Pirates" became a continued franchise.
