Poll: How Would You (or will you) Handle Touring on Leap Day?

How would you (or will you) tour on Leap Day?

  • MK Open till Close. (I can sleep when I'm Dead)

  • Go to opening then Hop. Return to MK that night.

  • Go in the AM. Take a nap after lunch. Come Back after Dinner and stay all night.

  • Go for the day on Feb 29th. Go to bed early that night and return in the wee hours on March 1st.

  • Wing it. I'll see how I feel that day.

  • Hop to all 4 parks that day. May never have a better chance.

At this point I predict that Disney other than MK and DL being open 24 hrs, is actually not going to do much more than that on February 29th.

Maybe a special Rope Drop Show in the early AM and maybe some special fireworks and /or extra parade that night. Closing Ceremony show? Maybe? But probably not.

So with that in mind I am trying to plan my day. I already had a lunch ADR at Epcot that day, long before the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT:rolleyes: I was going to cancel, but now I am thinking I will keep it.

SO, if you were going on Leap Day what would you do?

If YOU ARE going on Leap day, what are your plans?

Since I just found out on Sunday that I would be going I've been busy making plans!
On 2/28 we check out of of ASMu where we spent the night after flying in; head to Contemporary to check in and then to spend the day at Epcot - DATW but early to bed.
2/29 planning to walk over from CR and arrive about 5:30ish. We are anticipating a special Magic Kingdom Welcome Ceremony - maybe it'll be the same one but, I love it anyway. Spend the morning playing.

I have booked the Keys to the Kingdom tour for 9:30 that day. This is an adults only trip so it's the perfect time to take a 5 hour tour. Plus, we'll still have 19 hours to see parades, ride the attractions, watch fireworks and do everything that we had dreamed about when reading those "what would you do if you were locked in MK overnight" threads.
The tour has lunch at Columbia Harbor House then should be complete by 2:30. That sounds like the perfect time for a nap. Maybe an early dinner at the Contempo Cafe before returning to MK.

I desperately trying to get a Wishes Dessert Party ADR but so far, no luck.

I'm hoping to be able to go until the very wee, early hours. May be an hour or two nap but would like to be back well before any potential closing ceremonies. I would really hope they'd do a closing ceremony. Not sure what it would be but, this is a once in a lifetime event so I would hope Disney (are you reading this) does something a little different and special to cap off the day.
After lingering as long as possible, I plan to hit to hay for a few hours and then catch ME for a Noon flight home on 3/1. Yes, the words "I can sleep when I'm dead" have been uttered.

Given what they did (or really DIDN'T do) for the 40th Aniversary, I would guess not much special will be going on. Make sure you get in line early for a cupcake though!

This is what I'm thinking too. And I know it sounds crazy, but if the day comes and they truly aren't going to do anything, I may take the opportunity to hop around and ride at least one ride in all 4 parks that day. Just so I can say I did it.

I have a very real concern about breakfast that AM. Dining options at the resorts are not typically open early enough for those of us heading out to the parks to be there by 5:30 AM. Reservation windows for CP and CRT have not magically opened up to indicate opening any earlier than a regular day. I worry that if disney does not have a contingency plan in place, the line for the bakery is going to be longer than the one for Peter Pan. They better have a lot of coffee!

Actually, I've always wanted to watch the sunrise @ Magic Kingdom. I can't believe I am going to get to do it!! *smiling right now, just thinking about it!*

As far as breakfast... I will probably stand in line with thousands of others to get my huge cinnamon roll and coffee from the bakery. Yummo!

My friend and I are staying at Pop. We are planning on being there at rope drop and staying the entire 24 hours. We are packing snacks, renting a locker, and settling in for the long haul.

Our plan is to ride/do every open attraction that day. We haven't thought much about food yet other than our packed snacks.

What time do you think we should be at the bus stop?

If you want to be there by rope drop I'd plan to be waiting for the bus by 5am - at least.

I believe there will be at least the regular opening ceremony. I'm right there with you both in thinking it's not going to be a large dog & pony show. With low expectations I guess anything they do would be pixie dust.

We always bring some cereal or granola bars to eat in the room but, now that this image is in my head guess what line I'll be standing in!

We had reservations for my daughter to do BBB at the castle on 2/29 prior to the big announcement. We have since rescheduled for another day and will be going to another park in the morning, lunch in Downtown, then once the kids are sleeping (we have an older teenager to babysit) Dh and I might venture over to MK!

One ambitious DISer over on the TPAS boards reports that they plan to ride HM over and over for the entire 24 hours. I love HM as much as the next person, but I think by 8 AM I'd be sick of the Grim Grinning Ghosts, and in no hurry to "Hurry Back".

"Other" should always be a choice.

My current work schedule (at AK Gate) has me working Wednesday and Thursday mornings only. I would expect to get off somewhere around 1:00pm on Feb 29 and be due back in somewhere around 8:00am on March 1.

I will go home, do some stuff, eat an early dinner and go to bed. I will get up around 2:00am and be at MK by about $:00am. When it closes at 6:00 I will go to a Perkins or Denny's, have breakfast, change from a normal shirt into my costume, and go to work.

I am going to do just the opposite of what I normally do.

No rope drop this time for me. I am going to sleep in late, have breakfast at the resort, and maybe wonder over To MK about 1pm. I am looking forward to a less crowded bus and no line pushing rope drop madness. :rotfl:

The best part about the 24 hour event is NOT having to get up early.:woohoo: Personally I wish the park never opened before noon. ( but stayed open late all year.)

Keeping my fingers crossed to nice weather and no wind! :wizard:
