No. We came awfully close to being hung on nails (like a coat rack) in the basement though.

Of course. Not only was almost sold to gypsies, I was then reminded that my behaviour was so bad, the gypsies would return me.

OK, funny story.

My DM used to threaten me almost daily with sending me off to a Swiss boarding school. Every time I drove her nuts, it was off to boarding school with me. Then my DF was offered a job with his company overseas. One of the perks of the job would be that my sisters and I would have fully paid tuition to boarding school. At this point, I was so used to hearing about Swiss boarding schools, that when the job oppurtunity was brought up, I was BEGGING to go. I so wanted to see what a Swiss boarding school was like In the end, DF didn't take the position...and DM NEVER mentioned sending me away again!

They threatened it all the time. For a while I had my younger sister convinced that our parents bought her from the gypsies but that the check bounced, and the gypsies were coming to take her back.

I do tell my kids that I'll sell them. The 5YO just says "no you won't" and the 8YO thinks it sounds like fun.

Oh yeah.. Always. My kids are Gypsy rejects as well. My son thought it sounded like fun, until he found out that he wouldnt get to go to Disneyland... and they would make him clean. AL the time!

My mother never did it to me, but I used to threaten DD all the time with being sold a tribe of passing gypsies! She's 17 now and when I am aggravated with her I'll tell her that I should have taken those gypsies up on their offer. She thinks it is funny!

My mom threatened me with the gypsies all the time but I don't think they wanted me. I always thought it could be fun. I threatened my kids and now my grandkids with it. My DGD who is 4 just asks me what are gypsies and tells me I'm funny.

Not gypsies -- usually scary or bad people though. It wasn't light-hearted or fun either. The worst thing they threatened us with was a mentally retarded man on our street. He was the sweetest guy, too.

I used to threaten DD that I would return her back to Target where I bought her on clearance.

My parents did not but my older sis sure did! She was always saying she was going to sell me to the gypsies for a quarter so she could buy a pack of gum.



She also told me frequently I was adopted. I am the only one in my family with freckles so she would use that, a lot.

And she'd tell me my parents were getting a divorce and i'd have to live with my mom because my mom hated me and knew I loved my dad more so for punishment I was stuck with mom.

I love my sister, now. not so much back then.

Well, yes. My sister then told me that not only would mom sell HER to the gypsies without issue, but that they wouldn't take me at all because I was (insert current derogatory kid-word here: moded, lame, fat, dumb, stupid, ugly, no one wanted to be my friend, etc.)



It is all okay. I still currently remind her that no matter what, I'm still younger.
