I hope nobody takes this post the wrong way. I have noticed several posts with political messages - signatures with a political agenda. By all means, I respect EVERYBODY'S right to free speech, whether I agree with their views or not, but, I believe this forum should be dedicated only to our vacations and our love of all things Disney. We have enough "reality" hitting us over the head every day - maybe this place should be one of the few where we can escape from the real world and get lost in fantasy for a while.

Just my opinion for what it's worth. ::yes::

I am so glad you started this! I have been very happy to see some of the BIG pictures NOT coming up. I love to read about people's first hand experience, but I don't really care how many times they have been to WDW or how many times they stayed at any particular resort.

But, as long as the posters stick to the 'small' guidelines on the signatures, I don't really care what they have in there! I don't like looking at peoples signatures that go on forever. And, yes, I *do* know I can turn off the signatures all together . . .

I don't think that's what skyhawk meant SandraLee.
I've seen a few as of late, but I think it's just someone that normally posts to another board, where the sig is more 'normal' or 'appropriate', not usually on the cruiseline board.

Or course, if we ask that those people remove those sig's, then what else do we have to ask people to remove? Family pics, cruise pics, Disney pics? If we call if "free speech", then we have to let it be free.

What really bugs me is the passporter that has Walt's name and quote attached to a candidates name. Walt is not endorsing any candidates in this presidential election and I resent someone co-opting his name for someone's personal political viewpoint.

I'm not sure what you are referring to? I'm curious about it. Would you elaborate further?

I believe madoug is referring to the John Kerry ads. Political ads do seem out of place.

While I agree we should be allowed to express a little individuality in our tags and signatures, I too, prefer to focus on the innocent make-believe world my family escapes to in the form of Disney parks and cruises.

Everything else should belong on the Debate board as the quickest way to offend someone or become defensive is to flaunt our own political or religious beliefs - and I don't think that is anyone's intention on this board (as I hope I haven't offended anyone by this post!)

Back to the vacation planning!

You can shut a lot of that stuff off in your user CP
Just choose no for these

Show user's signatures in their posts? yes no
Show user's avatar in their posts? yes no

MAYBE u like to see some peoples sig's and not the other's as referred to by OP..l....

Just curious if anyone else had any thoughts about this? I don't like seeing campaign messages - whether it's for my guy, or against him. I do not believe this is the place for it.:boat:

Guess you have to make choice then, get over being bothered by the political ads or turn them all off. Or another time-consuming option is to put all the people with political ads on ignore. Then you don't have to see them and you can still see everyone else's pictures and signatures. I don't see where it's a big deal.

If you forbid signatures that didn't follow your guideline of being "dedicated only to our vacations and love of Disney" you'd have to exclude all signatures that are not Disney related -- including things like family pics, etc.

As long as it's non-offensive, I see no reason why a banner or something similar that states your political preference shouldn't be allowed.

As long as the powers that be allow political messages in signatures, there's nothing that can be done about it. Your options are to turn off signatures, or not pay attention.

I don't care one way or the other, the political messages don't bother me. But if they are within board guidelines, than it's probably not a group discussion issue. JMHO, YMMV.

skyhawk, I have to disagree with you.

.

the world is not all fairy tales pixie dust. reality seeps in all the time. I wn't bury my head in the sand.

my political banner is part of who I am.

I don't tell you what to put in your signature. you can put anything you want there, profound or inane, so long as it meets the guidelines. don't dictate to me what belongs in my signature.

None of the signatures bother me. It helps me get a bit of insight into the people I am interacting with out here in cyberspace. If I knew how to put together a signature I would not want to be limited in what I could put in there--other than by the boundaries of decency. I would likely put in things about my love of Universal and IOA. Perhaps that would offend some on a Disney board. Would that mean I then could not put those things in my signature? I would hope not. I guess the point is, where would it end?

ITA with ToriLammy. If you're gonna get all prissy about what's in people's sigs, where does it end? "I don't like the band in this person's sig .. it should be banned." Either get over it, or turn off sigs. It's really that easy.
