Police to quiz Madeleine's mother

Madeleine was last seen on 3 May
Portuguese police are to re-interview the mother of missing Madeleine McCann.
Kate McCann and her husband Gerry have previously been interviewed over the disappearance of their daughter from an apartment in Praia da Luz on 3 May.

Mrs McCann will be accompanied by a lawyer for formal questioning as a witness. Police have previously said the McCanns are not suspects.

Separately, Portuguese detectives confirmed they had the partial results of forensic tests by a UK laboratory.

Mrs McCann, from Rothley in Leicestershire, is expected to arrive at Portimao police station in the Algarve at 1400 BST (1300 GMT).

Mr McCann is thought to face further questioning himself on Friday.

Portuguese police spokesman Chief Inspector Olegario Sousa said partial results from tests had been received but would give no further details.

I know its such a sad story. It gets me chocked up everytime I read any stories regarding Maddie. I hope for Maddies sake her parents were not involved. I for one could not and would not hurt any of my children, which is why I find it very hard to understand if her parents were involved.

Sad story indeed. I hate the fact that most violent crimes are by someone you know

This seems to be looking more suspicious as time goes on. I agree.... why would any parent want to hurt their own child ??

The outcome of this is still a long way off I fear.

i wish there would be an end to this very sad story :sad2:

I agree, it most be awful not knowing one way or another.

I hope that whatever the outcome that Maddie's parents are not involved, mainly for the sake of the other two children.

Everytime I think of Madelieine it makes me want to hold onto my kids so tight and never let them out of my sight for a second. I wish that there would be some kind of result in this case, it's so sad and I just hope that her parents aren't involved especially after how much good public feeling there has been toward the cause and the collection of over 1million for the fund to look for her.

I've thought from the word go that there was a lot of info that wasn't being released by the police. It seems strange that after all this time they haven't given any info out about what they believe may have happened. That sounds like there's someone they don't want to frighten off before there's enough evidence to do the job right.

I agree, and th epolice will always keep specific detail secret to seperate the genuine witnesses/confessions from the nut jobs

It's all very sad. There are so many stories, suspicions and theories.

I must admit we don't watch the news much these days - Molly is very aware of this story as she saw an appeal which was shown at the cinema and when we saw a poster the other week she got really upset about the 'stolen' girl.

I feel for the other 2 children. It must a strange existence for them at the moment.

We never watch the news anymore when Shelby is around, I think recent stories contributed to her non sleeping and being scared at bed time phase so it's just easier to watch News 24 after she has gone to bed. There is far too much bad news on tv and they take it all in.

I heard on the news this morning that the mum will declared an offical suspect today. :confused3

We never watch the news anymore .......

Its the same for me, Jo-Ann is very aware of what has been happening, she also has had a few nightmares where she has been lost and mumy and daddy can't find her!!!!

I can't imagine how terrible it must be for Kate McCann, especially if she has not had anything to do with the disappearance. I do hope that the police are not clutching at straws and are only following this course of action because they have some concrete evidence and really feel that questioning the parents and naming them as official suspects will help bring this to an end.

I have made my views know from the start on this matter (as have many others either way! :goodvibes )

Just to report:-

"Sky sources have said Kate McCann could be charged with the accidental death of her daughter.
Mrs McCann's lawyer has warned her she may face charges today, said a family friend.

Kate is back at police stationMadeleine's mother has been made a formal suspect in the case, the friend added.

Portuguese police suggested to Mrs McCann that traces of Madeleine's blood were found in a car the family hired 25 days after the girl went missing.

It is thought Kate is being asked more questions linked to the DNA tests on samples taken from the car."

I have had lots of misgivings about this from the start too .... it just seemed so strange. If she is guilty there's going to be a lot of questions asked, isn't there?

And how could a Mother 'mistakingly' kill her own child? Someone wrong with her definitely.

As Sky has been reporting, its information comes purely from "family spokespersons" and pure speculation on the part of the media (they do know they're media, right? :confused3 ;) ). They say that the Portugese Police tend not to issue specific information. That can only add to the media feeding frenzy. As usual, I'm keeping an open mind. When the truth is known I'll be neither shocked nor surprised whatever it turns out to be. I just hope there's some closure soon.

One of the things I am very uncomfortable with is the hoards of family who come rushing out to make statements and comments around this case.
Its rather like the tactic of attack is the best form of defence.
Something is not right in this case.

Read this today - does sound very suspicious !!

Both the parents of missing Madeleine McCann have been declared formal suspects in her disappearance.

Kate McCann was named an "arguida" on Friday morning before undergoing questioning during which she was asked if she accidentally killed her daughter.

Her husband Gerry was also given the legal status of a suspect during questioning on Friday night.

Gerry McCann left a Portuguese police station early on Saturday after being quizzed by detectives amid fears his wife will be charged with killing their daughter. He walked out of the regional headquarters of the Policia Judiciaria - Portugal's CID - after undergoing nearly eight hours of questioning.

Earlier his wife Kate endured being asked directly by detectives whether she accidentally killed Madeleine. Mrs McCann has been warned by her lawyer that she could be charged over her daughter's death.

During her questioning, detectives suggested that traces of Madeleine's DNA were found in the family's hire car, a silver Renault Scenic that they are still using but did not lease the vehicle until 25 days after her daughter disappeared.

Portuguese detectives appear to be working on the theory that Mrs McCann killed her daughter by accident and covered up the death by claiming she was abducted. Mr McCann's alleged role is not clear, but sources said police believe he was an accessory to the killing.

Meanwhile, according to a relative, the McCanns are worried it may appear that they are "running scared" if they return home to Britain.

But despite this, Philomena McCann revealed her brother Gerry and his wife Kate still intend to go ahead with their plans to travel back to Britain next week.

Speaking from her home in Ullapool in the Scottish Highlands, she said: "They are still hoping to come home on Monday, but Gerry is saying he doesn't want it to look like they are running scared. He doesn't want it too look as if they are running away, because that is nonsense."

If it turns out that either parent was involved then I think as a nation the British people will lose the ability to trust in the word of any parent in the future who may be unfortunate enough to lose a child.
Can you imagine the next time some poor mother is in tears on telly, pleading for the return of her child and so many more people will be thinking "she probably did it" :sad2:

this is terrible...
if they are innocent, it's horrible for them to be put through something like this...
and if they're guilty....

The thing I can't get my head around is...
If she did kill little Maddie by accident, then why have the big campaign to find her? Surely if she had admitted it from the start then the consiquences would be far less than they would be now.
Or if she deliberatly murdered her, then why? What could cause a mother too kill her own daughter? especially at such a young age.

Also, the whole story they told about leaving the kids in bed and going to the bar and checking up on them every-so-often seems a bit off too me..

I don't know anyone who would do that at home, so why do it on holiday? I know people do things that they usually wouldn't whilst on holiday but still, leaving your three tiny children alone. What if they had woken up and wanted mummy and daddy? They would have been so scared!

It just seems as more and more days pass that it all looks a little shadier.
I hope who every did take or kill Maddie is found and is dealt with sevearly, and I hope for the childrens sake that the parents didn't kill that little girl.
