Pokemon GO In the Parks?

How is this 10x worst than someone taking a picture?

There are so many people in the parks, not watching where they are going. Even if this adds to that, rather than simply changing what people that already aren't paying attention, are doing; it just won't be that many.
We are in Disney World now. We spent yesterday in MK. I can tell you that I saw many people playing Pokemon GO. Every time I saw some oblivious person stop dead in their tracks to look at their phone, I tried to peek and see what they were doing. The vast majority of the time, it wasn't Pokemon that I saw. It was Snapchat if it was a younger person and the MDE app if was an older person. Only a few times was it Pokemon.

Yes, a lot of people are playing, including our daughter, but no, it isn't causing a sudden epidemic of people blocking paths and getting in everyone's way. That is happening as much as always which has very little to do with Pokemon.

I've now played in Epcot, HS and AK - just thought I'd share an album of some of my pics from around the parks these last few days. Sorry most are of "unexciting" Pokemon, but when I see any good ones (got a Scyther, Tenacruel, & Bellsprout yesterday at AK!), my focus is more on catching it than taking pics. I have more time for those with the 1000th Pidgey or Rattata!

This is a fad. It will die down in a year or two. Everyone is talking about it, the media is promoting and once that changes only the hardcore will still be interested.
People lose interest in things quickly. This will be all the rage for about a year and then people will move on to the next big thing.

I can see this being good and bad for someone who doesn't play. The good.. Maybe if so many are chasing little imaginary creatures on their phones they won't be in line for attractions in front of the rest of us. That's good.

The bad.. Players not paying attention to their surroundings, having their phones out during dark rides and possibly disrupting others enjoyment.
We've already had comments in this thread about looking for these Pokemon on rides.... So I can see this being a big distraction for both those playing and unfortunately for those just trying to enjoy a ride.

I'm all for people spending their WDW time the way they choose, just don't infringe on another's vacation enjoyment to entertain yourself, that's all I ask.

Actually fad will die down as soon as the weather becomes less conducive for outdoor entertainment - great weather across the US right now in middle of summer, but by fall and winter not so great for many people and locations, just like the beach, parks and golf, once weather changes so will peoples activities including searching for Pokemon Go.

You are probably right.

I wonder if it will get more popular here. We have 90-100 degree heat right now. Not a lot of people walking around.

Don't take this personally, but people who play this "game" probably did not date much in high school.

Oh Boy. Let me spend thousands of dollars to go to the Magic Kingdom and stare into my phone all day looking for some ridiculous, fake image. C'mon people. Put your phones down and look around you. I am getting so tired of having to move to my left or right suddenly because poeple have their eyes glued to their phones and if I don't react quickly enough, I could get run over. It has gotten to the point that I let them walk into me. I'm a big guy, 6'3" and 260 lbs. Believe me, it hurts them more than me.

like other posters have said, the majority of people playing Pokemon Go are locals, and they don't stop in the middle, people tend to move to the side. There are plenty of people stopping all of a sudden but for other reasons, to take a picture, look at a map, etc.

As a local AP pass holder, I have played Pokemon Go while at the parks. It's the best time killer in between plans. Some Poke Stops (which gives items) are even located near queues and time passes by much faster.
I'll admit my bias as a player, but there are multiple apps (Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, SnapChat etc.) that can be the reason people are on their phone while walking, so I don't see Pokemon Go as an exclusive reason for any traffic flow issues.

Anyone else here not be able to turn on the AR for the actually pictures? When I turn it on the pokemon doesn't show on the screen at all. Just the pokeball

There will be arrows on the side of your screen showing where you need to turn to see the Pokemon.

They were out and about in the Animal Kingdom on Saturday night! :yay: Found them sitting in my wife's hand and jumping out of the trash!

I'm at disney now. It's 90-100 degrees and tons of people playing.
It is 90+ degrees here. Walk outside and you will be one of the only one's out there.

Go 100 miles East? There are a bunch of people at an amusement park.

There is a huge difference between going outside to play Pokemon and going outside to ride a roller coaster.

i'm in high school now, and almost everyone is playing it. I wouldn't be surprised at all if people are playing it in the parks.
I walk around playing it in my neighborhood, and play with my older sister who can drive (she doesn't drive and play) and we go all around.
