Pokemon GO In the Parks?

I'm very excited to play when I come to Disney in a few days. I've found most Pokemon Go players to be respectful, I always pull over if I find a Pokemon (my phone buzzes if one shows up, I don't have to stare at the phone while walking).

It will be interesting to see if I get knocked into more than usual at the parks, I've been bumped plenty in the past and it obviously had nothing to do with Pokemon Go.

There's a huge "get off my lawn" mentality with this game.

Finally a game gets people out of the house and exercising and people come out of the woodwork complaining about them being "zombies".

How I enjoy my Disney vacation is my prerogative. If I want to lounge at a pool, ride rides, play Sorcerers, or play Pokemon Go, that's what I will do. Playing a game I enjoy in the most magical place on earth will make the experience that much better!

As this type of game evolves and improves and becomes more immersive I wonder whether they might actually become a threat to the whole concept of theme parks - who needs to go to a theme park when your mobile device turns the whole world into a theme park?

All true!!!!

As long as you don't interfere with other people enjoying their vacations! :) Seems true for just about anything.

Seems fair. Fingers crossed that the game doesn't interfere this way... :)

Ps. It's ok for people not to want others to invade their lawns! ;)

Me!!! :)

I'm assuming you are playing with the AR on? If you turn it off, you are able to catch pokemon without handing to hold your phone out directly in front of you.

By turning the AR off (a toggle in the top right corner when you tap a pokemon), the image becomes fixed on the screen rather than fixed to a gps location.

Have fun at AK - I've found it's had the rarest/most variety of Pokemon so far
But then I can't get the cool pics of the Pokemon out and about in the parks! ;) Seriously, that's half the reason I play since I certainly have no idea of what I'm doing otherwise and my son just rolls his eyes or says "try something" if I ask him for advice or help.

At Epcot right now. Caught Pikachu by Innoventions and Balbasur in the FEA line.
Servers are down right now :(

I'll be at Disney World next weekend and plan on playing in the parks. I may not have been able to get into many of the Podcast events but I get to play Pokemon Go in the parks. I'm looking forward to it!

This is a fad. It will die down in a year or two. Everyone is talking about it, the media is promoting and once that changes only the hardcore will still be interested.
People lose interest in things quickly. This will be all the rage for about a year and then people will move on to the next big thing.

I can see this being good and bad for someone who doesn't play. The good.. Maybe if so many are chasing little imaginary creatures on their phones they won't be in line for attractions in front of the rest of us. That's good.

The bad.. Players not paying attention to their surroundings, having their phones out during dark rides and possibly disrupting others enjoyment.
We've already had comments in this thread about looking for these Pokemon on rides.... So I can see this being a big distraction for both those playing and unfortunately for those just trying to enjoy a ride.

I'm all for people spending their WDW time the way they choose, just don't infringe on another's vacation enjoyment to entertain yourself, that's all I ask.

We have a huge property out in a rural area, and lots of people walking these dirt roads with their phones now. We have put up signs now "Pokemon GO players welcome during daylight hours" next to our "No Trespassing" signs. It has led to a lot of fun.

Yes, the big server outage yesterday was due to launching in some 20+ countries in Europe, and today they launched in Canada, so lots of server problems... :(

I love this game. I work in the state capital and we have a lot of pokestops. My building is one, as is the building across the street, another on the corner. It's fun. My 13-year-old, who will generally spend her time streaming Netflix and texting with friends, has spent several nights walking up to a stop near our house. We aren't glued to the phones. We're talking and enjoying spending time together. Once it cools down a bit, I'm going out with my son to do the same thing. I would love to do this the next time we're at WDW.

Yesterday's outage was claimed to be a DDOS attack rather than a regular outage.
Not sure about today though

My general technique is to keep the AR off most of the time, and then turn it on briefly for the photo.
This also allows me to set up the shot

But I agree, taking photos in the park is a big part of playing there :)

Well I am one of the ones that hope they STOP this from happening in the parks. First i have to deal with these people wondering about on the streets not looking where they're going, and getting in the way (10x worst then a tourist taking photos from the middle of the street) I don't want to have to deal with this nonsense while on vacation
How is this 10x worst than someone taking a picture?

There are so many people in the parks, not watching where they are going. Even if this adds to that, rather than simply changing what people that already aren't paying attention, are doing; it just won't be that many.

All I seem to be catching lately are weedles, rattatas, spearows and pidgeys. Where are all the good Pokemon hiding?
