Pokemon GO In the Parks?

To be honest, I wondered if Disney might not have The Pokemon Company and Niantic (developers of the game itself) black out the parks-- suppose they still could in the future.
I was just thinking this same thing! If it continues to cause people to try to get backstage, or ruins ride experiences, or is causing "collisions", I could see them doing this. Similar to how they banned selfie sticks and those HORRIBLE skate shoes. But this would require that outside company's cooperation.

Of course they aren't smarter than that.

I posted this on another Pokemon go thread, but does everyone remember people walking off piers while texting? Or falling off cliffs while taking selfies?

Stupid people will be stupid.
I definitely agree with that!! But there are places where there is some blame or liability, EVEN IF "stupid people will be stupid". That doesn't absolve companies from considering safety and the like. I think a teeny disclaimer that people need to play responsibly would be thrown out the window in a courtroom IF the company was found to be negligent in some significant way.

Again regardless... re: the OP's original post, I just REALLY hope this doesn't negatively impact our Disney trips! :)

I just read a story about 2 guys in CA falling off a cliff whilst playing. I laughed. (they're ok, btw)

I haven't read through all 11 pages so I apologize if this has been brought up.
I think that the majority of people playing inside the parks are locals with an AP. I say this out of experience, have gone to DHS, AK and DS specifically to play this and the people that I saw were, mostly adults and some of them I've seen before (bloggers/people that go often as I do so you kinda recognize them)
Being local, AP holders means that you pretty much know the parks so everyone that I saw playing would lift their heads, stand on the side and do their pokefun. I haven't seen anyone stop in the middle of a busy street or try to jump fences although I know that that has happened already.
Just my opinion of what I've seen.
That being said I think Disney will keep the pokestuff at the parks just because it is bringing locals into the parks when you are not necessarily planning to go. Like I said, I have gone 3 times just to play when I wasn't planning on going into the parks at all, while there I bought some food, so it might be good in some way

Just dropping back in to remind everyone to please remain on the Pokemon topic discussing tips, in park playing, etc.

Niantic has set up a form for businesses to request their Pokestops and Gyms be shut down, so Disney certainly could do this. There have been instances of some really inappropriate stuff, like people playing Pokemon and being noisy and playful at cemeteries and the Holocaust Museum.

It'd be nice if Disney only pulled the backstage ones and ones in areas that might cause problems (don't want to tempt people to hop into the tiger pit at AK or something...or to spend time in/near the water at the beaches and stuff...), but I'd imagine if they do any they'd probably do them all. Guess we'll see...

I really do hope that they do not pull the game from the parks. Unfortunately, you can't fix stupid, so hope those in that group don't ruin this fun for others. I have just started playing the last couple of days and am looking forward to playing in the parks.

DS has played Pokemon since he was a kid and we would play together on Gameboy. Today while out on errands it was a nice throwback for us to be hunting Pokemon in a whole new way. We had a blast just driving around, I drove while he navigated. Lots of fun and I can see families enjoying this as a fun outing.

Sounds like us.

I was driving around, my son was playing with both phones. All the while telling me where to go.

I've found that most churches have a Poke Spot.

My 21-year-old son is home for a bit and he has been playing and helping DH & I get started. Without a doubt as a local, the parks are the best place to go. At home (about 35 minutes from Disney), we can walk for an hour (which helps hatch eggs and get some exercise) but may get 1-2 Pokemon during that time and no Pokestops to get supplies. At the parks (so far we've done this at HS and EP), it's almost non-stop. I got 5 different Pokemon while in the FPP line at RnRC! We're heading to AK tonight and really enjoy the break Pokemon gives you in the park - instead of feeling like I should be rushing to FPP's and "doing" things, it seemed more okay to just casually stroll around stores or work our way to the various Pokestops and gyms (for my son - I'm not quite at that level yet!). As we walked around, my son was also pointing out all the other people playing, which I swear I never would have noticed otherwise (just would have assumed they were texting, taking a picture, or looking up FPP's). That is one issue though I've noticed, maybe because I'm an adult. When I stop somewhere to "catch" a Pokemon, even if I'm out of the way, people can't tell what I'm doing and it looks like I'm trying to take a picture. After noticing several people avoiding walking in front of me, I'm trying to be more aware of that and face walls or more inconspicuous areas or if I can't (sometimes the Pokemon are directly in front of an open area or "photo-type" spot), at least wave people in front of me or angle the phone down.

I'm assuming you are playing with the AR on? If you turn it off, you are able to catch pokemon without handing to hold your phone out directly in front of you.

By turning the AR off (a toggle in the top right corner when you tap a pokemon), the image becomes fixed on the screen rather than fixed to a gps location.

Have fun at AK - I've found it's had the rarest/most variety of Pokemon so far

I enjoyed Pokemon with my youngest DS when it was popular first go-around. Admit to squealing when I first tried the game and saw squirtle in my living room:). Don't have the time to actively play but my son does hold down a gym lol.

Did see a map where you can find them in Universal on another site.

Since we'll be back in a few weeks, wondering if there is one out there for Disney property yet. Would like to get a few rides in amongst Pokemon hunting lol.

I'm sure someone is already int he process of cataloging all the pokestops, pokegyms around WDW.
From personal experience.
Disney Springs: pokestops everywhere. Planet Hollywood, Fountains, Starbucks, Bongos, Lego Statues, TinkerToy next to Once Upon a Toy...Gyms at DisneyQuest, Balloon ride and Lego store. The area of Town Center doesn't appear yet.
DHS: pokestops that I saw, Gertie the Dinosaur, GMR, ST, TSMM, ToT, basically everywhere. The gym is the "hat" and ToT.

Going today to Epcot and will do my best to remember where everything is :)

Wonder how long before somebody hacks in and changes all of the Pokémon located within Disney Parks and replaces them with Disney characters making rude gestures at players. I'd play that.

Oh, I bet there are a dozen Pokemon GO clones of various sorts already in progress!

Well I am one of the ones that hope they STOP this from happening in the parks. First i have to deal with these people wondering about on the streets not looking where they're going, and getting in the way (10x worst then a tourist taking photos from the middle of the street) I don't want to have to deal with this nonsense while on vacation
