Hi

Looking at future value of DVC for trading into World Passport Program.

First of all, I think our vacationing pattern will be 12 nights per year in Florida.

I would like to see:

7 nts on Beach
5 nights in Disney

Our thought is to buy 160 pts at VB to start (Due to the great upfront pricing) to ensure we have a one week trip somewhere on the beach in Florida at peak time.

Then once this is paid for, we will buy between 65-100 pts at SS to have the nights we need for Disney at SS for 5 nights.

DVC World Passport requires 160 pts for trading High Season.

We especially like to stay on the West Coast so the Sanibel locations look interesting.

Does anyone know if trading with DVC to somewhere like the Beach Cottages is a good trade?

Is it difficult to get a trade?

Also, I would think a one nights stay if paying cash at a beachfront resort in peak would run at least $200.00 plus tax which would mean $1400.00 plus tax.

If we buy VB and Maintenance Fees are around $771.00 us per year, I think this looks like a good trade.

Any advise or am I missing something?

Well, yeah.
If you are looking at it only from a financial perspective:
You can rent your Disney points for $10-12 per point fairly easily right here on the rental board, and often with just a simple 'transfer' which takes at most 5 minutes.
So, 160 points = $1600 minimum.
To decide on a financial basis only....what does the resort you would 'trade' into cost per night/week? And if it is a timeshare...make sure you check the rental timeshare boards, cause you often find nonDisney weekly rentals for
$300-$450 a week.

For me, Disney points are much more valuable than any others. So if I can't use the points, I rent them and then vacation elsewhere using the cash.

There are way to many variables to cover them completely here. In your situation, I'd suggest you spend a few months getting educated before making a decision. I'm going to assume you can do with a 1 BR (max of 4 people), want a full week on the beach and can go other than Xmas to Easter. I'll further assume you have experience staying on Disney property on a regular basis at a moderate or higher. If all of these are true, here are some thoughts on purchase.

Your best bet will likely be buy a timeshare at the beach that will work for you and an appropriate number of points for Disney stays. Alternatives would be to just buy VB points or a combo (as you were speculating) only if you wills stay at VB as your beach option. Other alternatives would be to buy on property and use the points at VB when you need to though I agree that buying VB seems to be the best options IF you want to stay at VB as you suggest.

As for trading, 160 is the lowest for peak season for a 1 BR but a studio, it's 134. And much of the time isn't peak, summer at many of the resorts is likely Mid season such as West Palm. You could get that info from Disney to be sure. You may want to look at some of the other systems like Bluegreen, Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Fairfield, RCI points and the like. Can you travel off time?

I would definitely NOT buy DVC with the idea of trading if for a full week timeshare most years.
