Points in holding - home resort priority

Sorry if this has already been asked. I couldn’t find it.

I was silly and was modifying a trip to check what contract the points were pulling from. Oops. Ended up with 33 points in holding. That’s my bad.

Can I apply those points to a stay I have coming up later in the year? The stay was booked using Boardwalk points with home resort priority. The points in holding are Boardwalk points. (99% sure they are)

Tried to ask MS if this would work but kept getting vague responses. Last I heard, I have to use more points than my original reservation in order to use the points in holding. But from reading older threads on here, I thought I could just modify (between 60 days and 31 days) to use up points in holding. But not sure how it works with home resort priority.

As long as the reservation is in the same UY, then yes, you can modify at 60 days and it will pick up the points.

I am not sure how you ended up with them if you did not change the room as it would have been the same number of points.

I would email Ms and explain what happened and see if they can help.

I did email MS to ask about what happened, but wasn’t able to get anywhere. Kept getting vague answers copied and pasted directly from the website (despite the website FAQ saying no points go into holding if you are using the same amount or more.) I might try to call them next week rather than rely on email but at least I can fix it online later if I need to.

My guess? You have multiple contracts and the ones selected were different when you “modified” it.

I haven’t had time to sit on hold with MS yet (and chat was not helpful) but my waitlist for Dec 26 at Boardwalk just came through. And it pulled points out of holding to make the reservation. Most unexpected, in a good way. Thank you MS! I still have 11 points sitting in holding but wanted to let others know about this interesting development.

If I ever end up calling MS, I will report back. We are now debating a trip early July which might end up eating up the points anyways.
