Okay . . . I'm having brain freeze. I thought I knew the answer to this, but I'm confused. I'm not sure how to word the question either.

When figuring out how many points to get . . .

is Disney allowed to increase the number of points it costs to get a room each year? Or do the points have to even out some how?

The total number of points for the resort can not change. However, points for individual room types can fluctuate, as long as the overall title stays the same.

So, if they raise the points in one place, they will go down in the other. Sometimes, certain dates will overlap different seasons each year and thus effect the cost of a room.

Maybe a little different way to answer you is...if you were holding a piece of paper in your hand it it happens to be the points sheet for one of the resorts....the total number of points on that sheet can not go up. This does give DVC the right to shuffle the points around on the sheet such as time of year, weekdays vs. weekends or even room types but overall points for the sheet/resort can not increase.

This statement is NOT true for DCL, RCI, Disney Collection and other options we have available to us. Those can and do change quite often from year to year.

Hope that helps to clarify rather than confuse...:cheer2:

in the 2010 pts chart thread, where we are allowed to discuss the changes in the point charts, it was brought up that due to potential increases in your vacation style, it might be a good idea to buy a few extra pts as a buffer against small future increases.

but to increase the point cost of your stays, DVC would have to decrease someone else's. they can not increase pt costs across the board.

Yes, DVC can reallocate points to stay on a particular night, but the total number of points as to each resort are set. DVC actually did a reallocation of points for 2010 - - points for rooms for weekday stays increased and, therefore, the weekend point costs decreased to compensate. Since we usually travel for week-long vacations, this isn't such a big deal for us, but there are many people who travel Sunday-Thursday who were affected by the reallocation. I do think it is wise advice to give yourself a small points cushion to compensate for any future point allocations. Happy DVC shopping!! :goodvibes
