If someone transfers points to me that he would otherwise have to bank by 11/07, then they would become mine, and I could bank them for a 7/08 reservation, correct?
When I had transferred into my account 2 weeks ago they assumed my UY. Which meant the transferred into my Aug '07 points and had the normal banking deadlines.
Members can transfer home resort points to another Member that does not
have the same home resort points. The points retain the Use Year and
home resort priority of the Membership they were transferred from and
expire at the end of the transferring Member's Use Year.
Reservation Points can not be transferred
Banked or borrowed Vacation Points may not be transferred.
I guess if you are willing to take a chance but there may be a chance that you will not be able to bank them since they expire soon.
I am not sure I understand your answer. Do you mean that at one time transferred points were not bankable at all or that at one time there were banking deadlines for transferred points?

Technically they are supposed to retain home resort and original use year but often they don't. There actually hasn't been a booking deadline or percentage on transferred points in the past.

At one time they were not bankable. They made this change about 2000 at the same time they changed the lead time on booking holding account points from 30 to 60 days.
I am sorry to highjack this thread but I didn't want to start a new one with the same questions. We are planning a June 08 trip and we are 60 or so points short. If I go to the rent/trade board now it won't really matter what month the points expire because they would keep my use month (sept.). Is this correct? I don't want to make a $600-700 mistake.

You could still have points transferred and then bank them so you could use them for a June, 2008 trip.

As Dean stated, originally, transferred points could not be banked at all and would expire at the end of their original Use Year. That policy was relaxed at a later date - but there is no guarantee that it won't be returned to the original state at some point in time (I have no expectation that would happen, but just wanted to point out that it could happen without any advance notice).
Originally, only ONE transfer per Use Year was allowed. In 2003 the POS wording was changed to allow more than one transfer each year and last year it was changed back to allow only one transfer per Use Year - either in or out but not both.
