Point transfer scenario question

Hi all, I am inquiring about a transfer of points from another DVC member. I don't have anything set up, this is just a hypothetical at this point. I want to book a BLT 2 bedroom in December for next Thanksgiving week. I do not have enough BLT points for home resort advantage (I have AKL points but I don't want to risk waiting until 7 mths).
1. How would I orchestrate getting the remaining 64 points I need of BLT points (April use year)?
2. Do I post something on rent/trade?
3. Do people pay each other for transfers?
4. What is the difference between this and renting
5. Would I try to do a post soon so I could have this set up by the time my booking window opens on Dec. 26?

Please help :) Thanks!

The problem is you need 100% BLT points to book at the 11-7 month mark. Thus, you need to transfer into your account the total amount of BLT points you need as your AKV points will only work at the 7 month mark.

You can rent from a DVC owner - post online on DIS or respond to an ad

There is no fee from Disney to do a transfer

The cost per point will be in the $10-14 range for BLT

Transferring points into your account is FAR superior to renting points as they are YOUR points and renting is not YOURS

I wold start looking for points about 1 month BEFORE you need them

Warning - always ask what is the use year and expiration of the BLT points as you do not want to be in a situation where the points could expire before you use them in case you need to change your trip. The longer they expire the better.

My post above assumed you only were a AKL owner and I see you may also own BLT. Thus, you only need a 64 point transfer if you are only short that many points.

Of course, you could also book 5-6 days on your own (if you have the BLT points) and get another BLT owner to book the remaining 1-2 days you are short on and then link the two reservations.

Yes, thank you, I'm sorry I forgot to mention I own 160 BLT points. I have 76 for 2014 UY left, and will borrow the 160 points from my 2015 UY. Does this also mean I can't borrow points from 2015 until my April 2014 UY happens? Because that would really screw up my plan lol. My 11 month booking window for 2014 is December 26.

No, you can borrow those points in December because your Nov 2014 trip falls in you April 2014 UY. You would want someone to transfer into your either you April 2013 UY (2013 points to bank into your 2014 UY) or into your April 2014 UY to use during that year.

If you "rent points", the member who owns BLT points would make the reservation for you using their points for the nights you need. Then you would link your reservation to the reservation they made. You would have to check out and check in, but you should be able to stay in the same villa.
