Point Transfer Question

My current use year is February. I am banking this year's points to use next year (June-July 08). I will also need to have points transferred into my account so that I may plan a Family Reunion. Since I am banking and also borrowing from 2009 will I still be able to have points transferred to my account? If so, let's assume I am making my reservation 11 months out, which puts us at the end of July 07. Will someone be able to transfer points prior to that so that they would be in my account and able to use for June-July 08? I know this is planning ahead, but I don't want any surprises when the time comes. Also what are the chances that I will be able to rent from another member, 474 points?

Thanks,
Marc

That will be your biggest problem - finding a member with that number of points to rent. They will also have to have the same resort as you to get the 11 month advantage.

You could also rent a portion directly from a member without transferring and link any days if you needed to.

How about this: Would it be easier if I were to only get a transfer of 174 points into my account and then pay cash for a Friday & Saturday for two (2 Bedroom) villas.
1) Would the rooms that were being paid for cash be available at my 11 month window?
2) Would they be able to link the cash reservations with the point reservations?
3) What are my chances of being able to have 174 points transferred into my account? (Much easier than 474, I'm sure)

Thanks,
Marc

I just got off of the phone with Member Services (MS) and asked a similar question. You have two limiting factors affecting your transaction.

Members are limited to one transfer (in or out) of points per calendar year. Additionally, it is technically against the rules to pay someone else for your points.

My advice, be careful how you structure your transaction. I would call MS and tell them about your future reservation plans. Vaguely tell them that you have several friends with lots of points and are willing to LOAN them to you. Ask them how/when to structure the transfer. Don't tell MS that you are paying someone to be your friend.

Best of luck,

I had 84 points tied up in a studio and decided to change to 1 bedroom. Those points got me Wed - Thurs - and Sunday nights. I reserved cash nights Fri - and Sat and MS linked all 3 reservations ( Wed-Thurs) link ( Fri- Sat ) link (Sun ). I pay two nights cash and three nights points . Thanks MS

Per use year.

we just did a transfer to another member, maybe you could see if you could do a bunch of transfers equaling the amount you need, if you do it slowly 1 helps spread out the cost and 2 you could have enough before the 11 month window opens

Couldn't you just "rent" the points you need then link the two or three ressies? I have rarely seen a point transfer listed at 500 pts or so. Good luck and let us know how everything worked out.

Blake,
I have revised my thinking and instead of looking for 474 points, which would be really tough I am going to look for 174. The 300 points that I would have needed for 2, 2-bedrrom villas on a Friday and Saturday I will now pay cash for. The way I look at it it will be cheaper anyway. As for renting points rather then having them transferred. It has been my experience in the past that the control of your reservation is in the member that your renting from., so if you need to make additional requests or changes you then need to bother the other member to call MS for you. The person I rented from was very nice and I would have no problem renting from him again, but I would prefer to have the points in my account and retain full control of my reservation. What can I say, I'm a Type A.

Thanks,
Marc

You can only do ONE transfer (in or out) in one use year.

oops I didn't realize you could only take 1 transfer a year both ways......sorry I truly am you dont have to yell...........
