Point Charts for AKV

What will the point structure look like?

  • Less than BCV and VWL (similar to OKW)

  • Same as BCV and VWL

  • More than BCV and VWL (20% more points)

  • Way more than BCV VWL (40% more or more)

Results are only viewable after voting.
I think similar to BCV and VWL. BC and WL are deluxe resorts, like AKL. No reason to think that the points per night will be significantly different.

If they are lower (not much chance of that) this will be come a very hot destination resort for all DVCers.

If they are higher, they will create even more of an imbalance as AKV owners will "trade down" to BCV/VWL/BWV to save points and still stay at deluxe resort areas.

Just an opinion. YMMV. :)

I think Granny has it about right.

Maybe a point here or there higher per night but thats it.

Selling points will be a bit higher as well $105 to $107

I suspect it will be similar to BWV, where the view dictates how many points the room costs. However the "standard view" room will probably cost most than the BWV standard view room.

Good point Happy Haunt. Because 80% of the rooms are Savanah View I should focused the poll on the Savanah Views.

I think they will be similar to BCV or VWL - I can't imagine them being less and more doesn't make much sense to me b/c the resort location is not extra special (ie - no MK view like the CRV!).

I personally don't see the big draw of AKL, and therefore, by extension, the future draw for AKV.

While AKV, BWV, BCV and VWL will all have proximity to a theme park, AKV will be close to Animal Kingdom which is not my favorite park, and IMO doesn't have the draw of 'location' such as BWV or BCV has. AK has the shortest park hours, and if one is staying at AKV, it's a long bus ride to any other park.

I certainly hope they don't make the points any higher, thus as mentioned, making all the other resorts more attractive for the AKV owners who want to maximize their nights by staying at resorts that require fewer points.

The fact that they're converting AKL rooms to DVC rooms seems to indicate the lodge is not doing that well if they can afford to give up all those rooms. Yes, AKV will be very popular for a few years, but I suspect that after a few years the buzz for AKV will have a similar decline, and probably fall behind BWV and BCV as the most sought after reservations. This will be especially true if they have a higher point structure.

Just MHO.

My guess is AKV will only have Savannah view units. Someone posted a rumor that the one bedroom units at AKV will sleep 5 by using a sleeper chair. That might be used to justify higher points and might give some DVC owners a reason to book AKV as opposed to other DVC resorts.

A person who intends to book BCV/BWV at the 7 month window would do better buying SSR, maybe resale rather than paying for AKV.

I voted same as BCV and VWL. Now that could change if they alter the room configurations to sleep additional guests ie 5 in a one bedroom. Then I would have voted higher obviously.

I voted it would be similar to BCV, VWL, etc. The room rate at AKL is similar to WL, both of which are less than YC, BC, BWI and the monorail resorts. I can't see them charging a premium point rate for AKV when AKL is among the least expensive deluxe resort rooms. A lot will depend on the accommodations and amenities. If the villas are closer in size to OKW than BWV and they build a spectacular new pool area and fitness center, then I could see some justification for a higher point rate. But if they push it up too high then even die-hard AKL fans like my DH and me will not stay there, at least not very often.

Could be even less then BCV, after all the resort is out in nowhere land. If they are to high they will have a hard time selling.

What I read here was that not only will 1 bedroom sleep 5 officially, there will be 2 baths, so I went with the more 20% more, at least for 1 bedroom and up.

Thanks Bill! I was starting to wonder if I was the only person who felt that way! Having said that, I'm sure there will be plenty of people who will find plenty to love at AKV...and others who bash it.

In the end, I think the one advantage it will have is the same as OKW -- the accommodations will be better than some of the other resorts. And that advantage will still be meaningless to those who love the proximity and charm of the Epcot resorts and VWL. Same story, different chapter, more options...pretty hard to complain about, even if I'm not burning with desire to own there.

Bill...I think the draw will be similar to VWL. That is, the theming and ambience of the resort. Yes, VWL has the advantage of being close to MK, but I don't think that is the biggest draw there. And since you can't walk to MK from VWL, I put it in a similar category as AKL as being very reliant on Disney Transportation.

I think that for some, the theming plus the savannah views will create a very strong bond and emotional tie. I think it will be one of those "if you like it, you love it. If you don't, you can leave it" type of things. Again, similar to VWL.

And I think it has better restaurants than VWL/WL.

I also think that for many DVC owners, getting to the parks quickly is not as high a priority when travelling so often to WDW. I know it is very convenient from BWV/BCV to get to two parks, but for us that just isn't that big of a deal. Having said that, we totally enjoy our BWV points and staying there.

Personally, I don't know that we'd buy points at AKV. But we would definitely book there if available at the 7 month window.

For us, theming trumps location. Just MHO too. :)

My crystal ball is broken. Don't have a clue.

I agree with your assessment, Granny. For DH and I, it's the animals, the theming and the restaurants. Prior to becoming DVC members, we used to alternate stays between AKL and YC depending on whether we wanted a more active vacation (YC) or a more relaxing stay (AKL). DH and I are both animal lovers and enjoy observing their behavior and the interaction between groups of animals on the savannah. And, Boma is my DH's favorite restaurant at WDW.

The opportunity to sit out on the balcony and observe giraffes, wildebeests, zebras, ostriches, etc. is such a unique experience and yet, I read reports on the resorts board that people think that AKL is "boring". So I've just come to accept that some people don't see it the way I do, and that's OK.
