What will the point structure look like?

Thanks Bill! I was starting to wonder if I was the only person who felt that way! Having said that, I'm sure there will be plenty of people who will find plenty to love at AKV...and others who bash it.Caskbill said:I personally don't see the big draw of AKL, and therefore, by extension, the future draw for AKV.
While AKV, BWV, BCV and VWL will all have proximity to a theme park, AKV will be close to Animal Kingdom which is not my favorite park, and IMO doesn't have the draw of 'location' such as BWV or BCV has. AK has the shortest park hours, and if one is staying at AKV, it's a long bus ride to any other park.
I certainly hope they don't make the points any higher, thus as mentioned, making all the other resorts more attractive for the AKV owners who want to maximize their nights by staying at resorts that require fewer points.
The fact that they're converting AKL rooms to DVC rooms seems to indicate the lodge is not doing that well if they can afford to give up all those rooms. Yes, AKV will be very popular for a few years, but I suspect that after a few years the buzz for AKV will have a similar decline, and probably fall behind BWV and BCV as the most sought after reservations. This will be especially true if they have a higher point structure.
Just MHO.
Bill...I think the draw will be similar to VWL. That is, the theming and ambience of the resort. Yes, VWL has the advantage of being close to MK, but I don't think that is the biggest draw there. And since you can't walk to MK from VWL, I put it in a similar category as AKL as being very reliant on Disney Transportation.Caskbill said:I personally don't see the big draw of AKL, and therefore, by extension, the future draw for AKV.

I agree with your assessment, Granny. For DH and I, it's the animals, the theming and the restaurants. Prior to becoming DVC members, we used to alternate stays between AKL and YC depending on whether we wanted a more active vacation (YC) or a more relaxing stay (AKL). DH and I are both animal lovers and enjoy observing their behavior and the interaction between groups of animals on the savannah. And, Boma is my DH's favorite restaurant at WDW.Granny said:Bill...I think the draw will be similar to VWL. That is, the theming. I think that for some, the theming plus the savannah views will create a very strong bond and emotional tie. I think it will be one of those "if you like it, you love it. If you don't, you can leave it" type of things. Again, similar to VWL.
And I think it has better restaurants than VWL/WL.
I also think that for many DVC owners, getting to the parks quickly is not as high a priority when travelling so often to WDW. I know it is very convenient from BWV/BCV to get to two parks, but for us that just isn't that big of a deal. Having said that, we totally enjoy our BWV points and staying there.
Personally, I don't know that we'd buy points at AKV. But we would definitely book there if available at the 7 month window.
For us, theming trumps location. Just MHO too.![]()
